LARGE URBAN BUILD INGThis tower is a study of the influence of infrastructure in architecture. It features a structural system that is not only functional but also atmospheric; huge concrete masses divide the ground plane, dwarf the building users, and frame the arts centre below.

A walking path leads visitors through the site winding through and around various landscaped areas, and is evetually cut off by the CSC building, encouraging the public to walk through the building.

Limestone dolomite blocks and an acrylic fin wall reference the area’s native stone and the tectonics of modern rowing shell construction.

A charred wooden block construction, both tectonic and monolithic, gives new interpretation to the sheer cliff walls surrounding it. Built in collaboration with: Maighdlyn Hadley, Thomas Mahon, Clara Syme, Edward Wang, and Miriam Wierzchoslawska.

How does a person gauge the scale of the built environment?

This drawing set is a graphic analysis of the facade patterns in the Niagara neighbourhood of Toronto. It is an attempt to understand how a resident of - or visitor to - this area would experience the built environment in terms of “facade density”, a term I am using to mean the number and size of horizontal elements relative to a built form’s height.
