- Tatar Art Projects, Internship Employer

- Rick Haldenby, Professor and Previous Director, Waterloo School of Architecture

- Donald McKay, Design Studio Coordinator and Professor

“Elizabeth is among the best and brightest students I have had the pleasure of teaching

in my 35-year career at Waterloo. She is a very clear thinker and talented designer, but

most importantly fully capable of delivering a product of the highest quality on time and on

budget. Elizabeth is capable of using sophisticated computer numeric tools and producing

excellent results”

“Elizabeth works hard and well, to great effect. She stands in the top 10% of the class, in

a class not made up of slouches. She works well with others, participating as a leader in

different group projects, often of some long duration.”

“Elizabeth Antczak completed a work placement term at Tatar Art Projects where she

demonstrated her ability to juggle numerous tasks and projects, meet deadlines, provide

constructive criticism, utilize a variety of design software and work both independently and

part of a team. Her vast array of skills in both design and communication are highly evident

in her work as well as in her thought and creative process. Elizabeth will be a valuable asset

to any team.”

LARGE URBAN BUILD INGThis tower is a study of the influence of infrastructure in architecture. It features a structural system that is not only functional but also atmospheric; huge concrete masses divide the ground plane, dwarf the building users, and frame the arts centre below.

A walking path leads visitors through the site winding through and around various landscaped areas, and is evetually cut off by the CSC building, encouraging the public to walk through the building.

Limestone dolomite blocks and an acrylic fin wall reference the area’s native stone and the tectonics of modern rowing shell construction.

Make it simple, modular and urban. Give it a form that passes through the space rather than uses it up.

Designed in collaboration with: Alicia Stirling, Natalie Krakowsky, Wesley Chu. and Starr Wang.

A charred wooden block construction, both tectonic and monolithic, gives new interpretation to the sheer cliff walls surrounding it. Built in collaboration with: Maighdlyn Hadley, Thomas Mahon, Clara Syme, Edward Wang, and Miriam Wierzchoslawska.

How does a person gauge the scale of the built environment?

This drawing set is a graphic analysis of the facade patterns in the Niagara neighbourhood of Toronto. It is an attempt to understand how a resident of - or visitor to - this area would experience the built environment in terms of “facade density”, a term I am using to mean the number and size of horizontal elements relative to a built form’s height.

Mole Magazine is a student-run publication intended to explore and dissect a selected theme per issue.

We ask international architects and designers to submit their related work, hoping to expose unconsidered connotations and understandings of the theme.

Right, preparing issue 1: Cute Little Things

“Mole is an annual publication that intends to become a parasite of the mainstream.”
