Just a reminder to all lodge officers and members, there will be no lodge meeting on Thursday, July 17th. The lodge was granted a dispensation for that day so our lodge officers and some of our members could attend the Grand Lodge Convention in New Orleans this year. My thanks to all those who attended our Mother's Day ceremony; my special thanks to Ida Dennison, lodge committee chairman, for the event, for doing such a fine job; hats off to Emma Simpson and Teri Eckenrode for helping with the derby horse races on Monday, May 5th. It goes without saying, the lodge is extremely proud of Erika Barger. After passing her Florida Bar Exam, on Monday, May 5th, Erika was sworn in at the Fifth District Court of Appeals where her family and friends were on hand to congratulate her. Please check your June calendar and lobby board for upcoming lodge events, e.g. Flag Day and PER Golf Tournament. On Saturday, June 7th, our lodge will host a dinner for our ECDVP, Mark Thompson and his wife, Barbara. Please show your support, for this event, by coming out and meeting Mark and Barbara. This month, I have chosen Jacques Lauzon as Elk of the Month. Jacques is serving as Lodge Inner Guard this year, besides volunteering his time in the kitchen every Wednesday, doing dishes. We thank you, Jacques for supporting our lodge with all you do for us. In closing, it’s important that you, the members of this lodge, come out and support the events our committee chairmen put together for you; a lot of time and hard work go into the planning of these events....so, you the members, can enjoy them. HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT

Let me start by thanking everyone who participated inall of our May events. We have several fun activities scheduled for the month of June, as well. Please payclose attention to the posted flyers and monthly calendar for details.

During the months of July and August, we will nothave music in the lounge at our Wednesday night dinners. This decision was made by the House Committee and is based on cost. We will continue tohave our usual Wednesday night dinners with musicprovided by our juke box. We hope you understandour position and continue to support our lodge by enjoying our good food and fellowship.

Remember your comments and suggestions are al-ways welcome.

People all across the country will celebrate FlagDay on June 14th, it is a day for all Americans toshow respect for our flag. We, as Elks, will celebrate this day with spirit and reverence; soraise the flag with pride, on this day and everyday!

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers ourmembers who are sick or recovering from an illness: Don Boyles, Joe Cirillo, Don Haus, RichIgnacio and Bertie Robinson. Our thoughts andprayers go out to the family and friends of VeraEverett who passed away on May 18, 2014.

Erika Barger, daughter ofJack and Rita Barger, tookthe oath of attorney onMay 5th at ceremonies atthe Fifth District Court ofAppeals in Daytona Beach,Florida. She graduatedmagna cum laude fromFlorida State UniversityCollege of Law with herJuris Doctor degree in

2013; received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award from Florida State University for her commitment to community service and is also amember of the Order of the Coif. She is a 2006graduate of Seabreeze High School and a 2005graduate of Daytona State College. Prior to attendinglaw school Erika earned a Bachelor of Arts inGovernment and History from Georgetown Univer-sity in Washington, DC in 2010.

On April 26th, Exalted Ruler Maria De Armon and a groupof members from the lodge, participated in the annual StateElks Softball Tournament in Deland. Even though the groupdid not win a trophy, as you can see by their smiling faces,everyone had a great time.

LODGE'S TOP SCHOLAR GARNERS $4,000 MVS AWARD

The Elks National Foundation recently released thenames of its 2014 MVS and Legacy award winners. I ampleased to announce that, for the second year in a row,our Lodge has a Most Valuable Student winner! Miss Carson Bell, daughter of David and Laura Bell, of OrmondBeach, and our Lodge's first place MVS applicant, advanced through District and State judging and wasnamed a 2014 Elks National Foundation Most ValuableStudent Scholar. Carson has been awarded a total of$4,000, or $1,000 per year, during the 4 years she will be

attending the University of Florida. On behalf of our Lodge, we congratulate Carson on her outstandingaccomplishment. Our Lodge did not have any national Legacy award winners this year. To view a complete list of all the 2014 ENF MVS and Legacy recipients, visit:

On May 9, 2014, the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge held a scholarship dinner to honor our Ormond Beach ElksLodge scholarship recipients and their families. Three of our four scholars were present, as was our 2014Most Valuable Student Scholar. The students, their parents, and grandparents were treated to dinner, andeach recipient was presented with a certificate. Congratulations to all of our scholarship recipients, and thankyou, members, for your generous donations that support these scholarships and these outstanding studentseach year.
