Last week we welcomed Angus D to our school. Angus is joining the team in 3/4G. We welcome Angus and his family to our fabulous school community and hope they enjoy their time at EPS. Walktober We are halfway through ‘Walktober’ for this year and have enjoyed seeing lots of students walking or cycling to school each day. Thank goodness for the sunshine of late that makes it a much easier task in the morning! Keep up the great work everyone! We have been provided with some lovely incentive prizes by Colac Otway Shire to help raise motivation levels. Birregurra Festival On the weekend our dedicated P&F group held a BBQ over both days of the Birregurra Festival. The supplies for the BBQ were COMPLETELY DONATED! We are very grateful for the generous donation of sausages, bread, hamburgers and coleslaw from our local Woolworths store, as well as the drinks, sauce, serviettes and trays from our generous school community. All these donations meant that the total takings were profit for our school—a preliminary total of $2000!! What an amazing effort—well done and thank you to those parents—Julie Walters (organizer), Hayley Dewar, Damion & Belinda Rocka, Ben & Jordana Swanson, Sam Gaffney, Ally Groves, Marg Phillips, Sara Furney, Deb Holland, Elaine Walters, Nerissa Lovric, Sam Heaton-Harris, Karly Shaw, Rachel Langdon, Kelly Backhouse, Heidi Van Es, Carolyn Milverton, Danielle Dean and Linda Clegg—along with all their merry little EPS student helpers! Sun Smart and hats Term 4 is a ‘Sun Smart’ term which means ALL students must wear broad brimmed hats at both recess and lunch breaks. Without hats, they must remain in undercover areas and cannot join their friends playing in the sun. Hats are available for purchase at the office and please ensure all hats are named so they can be returned to their owner when ‘misplaced’. Emergency Management As part of our Emergency Management plan, we are enabling SMS notifications. This will be a generic message that indicates there has been the need to evacuate school buildings, the need to lockdown buildings, or other threat to student safety. The messages will only be sent AFTER the incident has occurred as during the emergency our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, not communicating with parents. Tomorrow, Thursday 19th of October, we will run a ’test’ message. As this system is automated, it relies on updated mobile numbers being entered into our system. This test will give us the opportunity to see how many parents receive this message. So I ask that everyone please indicate in your child’s diary, or by email to the school address [email protected], or a hand written note or phone call, to let us know if you received the emergency test SMS. If you don’t receive it, please also indicate in your correspondence the relevant mobile number so we can update our records. If you have any questions or concerns coming from this, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school. Emergency Management is a very important process and we take student safety very seriously. WALK TO SCHOOL Walk to School this October and kick-start your child’s active habits for life. Vichealth’s Walk to School month encourages primary school children to walk, ride, scoot to and from school throughout October, to help them get the 60 minutes of physical activity they need each day. Walking to and from school can also give you more time to connect and chat with your kids, and the opportunity to meet up with the other local families along the way. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss safe routes to school and talk about road rules, safe crossing points, stranger danger, etc in the lead up to Walk to School. For further information please visit www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au

If you wish to order books without your child’s knowledge please mark this request very clearly on the order form. PARENT & FRIENDS NEWS

Wow, what a weekend we had at The Birregurra Festival. Beautiful weather, a wonderful festival and plenty of people enjoying the sun-

shine. Our stall was set up and ready for a great weekend. Then all too soon it was over and the big clean up began.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers that manned the stall over the weekend, you were all awesome, and I hope you all enjoyed your-

selves.

To all the very generous parents, who couldn't be there but donated items, you all did a wonderful job too, as we didn't need to purchase

anything extra, except for the onions and a gas bottle refill. You all should be extremely proud of yourselves, because with this combined effort, the fundraiser was a huge success.

There is a couple of people we need to say a special thank you to, the first being Woolworths Colac who so, so, generously donated all the

sausages, hamburgers, bread, and coleslaw. This donation truly overwhelmed me.

The second very special thank you goes to one of our amazing teachers, Sarah

Handscomb, who approached the P and F with a great idea, that maybe we could hold a fundraiser in her courtyard. On behalf of our entire school community I would

like to say "Thank you Sarah" for giving us this amazing opportunity!!

Julie Walters P and F President.
