Curriculum Vitae Mr Elroy Joseph Aguiar PhD Candidate - Human Physiology Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours Class 1) Email: [email protected] Phone: +61 2 4985 4975 Mobile: +61 434 283 004 Fax: +61 2 4921 2084 Biography I am currently a research associate in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, and the Priority Research Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition at the University of Newcastle, Australia. I was recently awarded (Aug 2015) a doctoral degree (PhD) in Human Physiology. My PhD thesis focused on the feasibility and efficacy of a self-administered, gender-tailored, multi- component diabetes prevention program to elicit clinically meaningful weight loss and changes in glycaemic markers. Prior to, and during, my PhD candidature, I worked as a research assistant in Prof Robin Callister’s exercise physiology laboratory. During this time I gained extensive research experience (7+ years) working on a wide range of exercise science, physical activity, nutrition and human physiology projects. I have worked with chronic disease and healthy populations, as well as elite level athletes (performance testing). As part of my role in Professor Callister’s research laboratory (and within our wider research centre), I have developed significant skills in the design/development, project management and evaluation of health behaviour change interventions (randomised controlled trials).
