1. SCOPE
1.1. This procedure covers the loading and despatch of all reels and goods (including coils,
samples, sockets etc.) for all Bridon UK sites.
1.2. It covers both operational and documentation processes.
1.3. It has specific application to the Despatch Team Leadership and Operatives.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1. The Bridon Group Head of HSE is responsible for maintaining this document.
3.2. The Site Operations Managers are responsible for ensuring adherence to this document.
4. PROCEDURE
4.1. The process is detailed within the attached Process Flow Charts given in the appendix E,
detailing INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & RESPONSIBILITY.
4.2. All incoming vehicles must report to Bridon Security/Despatch Department (whichever is
applicable) together with the correct collection reference and description of goods to be
collected.
4.3. Security/Despatch will check the reference numbers and issue a loading ticket to the driver
after confirming that the vehicle is at the correct Bridon location.

4.4. Security or Despatch (as applicable) will then direct the driver to the correct loading point.
Bridon Security/Despatch (as applicable) will contact the Transport Co. office to check that
the consignment is under the Transport Co. control or EXW/FCA.
4.5. All Bridon sites require mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
4.6. All Personnel visiting Bridon sites must wear as a minimum – Hi Vis, safety boots, gloves
and eye and ear protection.
4.7. Upon arrival at the loading point the vehicle driver will report to the Despatch Shift
Supervisor/Loader.
4.8. Bridon staff will supervise any vehicle reversing manoeuvre into the Despatch Bays.
4.9. The Despatch Supervisor/Loader must check the driver’s reference numbers against the
Goods Ready for Despatch List/Factory Instructions. All vehicles that arrive on site must
have the required Export Reference Number, e.g. DR/****/10 or Bridon Works Order
Number, e.g. X833**** or Bridon Rope Number, e.g. S766**. A list of Bridon Order
References by location is included in the table below. It is the driver’s responsibility to
present the correct reference number. If the driver does not have the reference number or
has an incorrect reference number, it is the driver’s responsibility to obtain the correct
reference via his Company Transport Office. Failure to present a reference number could
result in a refusal to load.

4.10. Despatch Supervisor/Loader will discuss and complete the Bridon Reel Securement
Checklist in conjunction with the driver and refer to the Bridon Load Securement
Standard. Any vehicle arriving for a collection without the required load securing
devices and/or consignment reference numbers will not be permitted to load.
4.11. Both the driver and the Despatch Supervisor will agree how the reels are to be
loaded and where the reels will be positioned on the vehicle. The minimum number
of securing devices is detailed in the Bridon Load Securement Standard.
4.12. The driver must prepare vehicle for loading, e.g. nail down the required timber
supports and placement of edge protection. Additionally, if a reel is secured to a
cradle, ensure that anti – slip matting is placed between the trailer deck and the
cradle base. Bridon will provide reel bore protection material and anti – slip mats.
4.13. On completion of loading, the driver must secure the load in accordance with the
Bridon Reel Securement Standard.
4.14. The Despatch Supervisor/Loader is responsible for taking photographs of the
finished load and the vehicle number plate. The photograph of the finished load will
be imported to the Bridon Reel Securement Checklist or stored on the Despatch
Department desktop computer.
4.15. The driver must check that the loaded goods match the goods on the driver’s
collection instruction and will sign for receipt of goods, noting any damage.
4.16. The Despatch Supervisor/Loader will oversee the vehicle leaving the loading bay in a
safe manner.
4.17. Unless by prior agreement, collecting vehicles must arrive on site between the hours
of 06:00 - 18:00 Monday to Thursday and 06:00 – 15:00 Friday.
