The increased police presence aims to deter robberies, shoplifting, theft and associated crimes at malls, shopping centers and on main streets. The Wilde Lake CARES (Community Action and Resources for Environmental Stewardship) Committee and their Weed Warriors team are making a difference. For more information about WL CARES, contact Wilde Lake Village Board member, Bess Caplan at [email protected]. Wilde Lake Village Board member and master watershed steward, Rhoda Toback, mentioned that she noticed many piles of leaves in front of homes on Green Mountain Circle, and as a result of this week’s heavy rains, the leaves, twigs and branches were being dragged along to storm drains and on to local waterways. She reminds us to be aware of the cause and effect of such debris on local waterways. She recommends promptly removing leaves and debris from curbside and storm drains. For questions about watershed issues, please contact Rhoda at [email protected]. Police Aim for Safe Holiday Season

The RAC (Resident Architectural Committee) meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. WLHS Robotics Club Seeking Community StakeholdersFor the past 4 years, the Wilde Lake High School Robotics Club has participated in the international “First Robotics Competition” (FRC). This FIRST Robotics Competition is the ultimate sport for the mind as it not only combines the excitement of sport but also the rigors of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.” This year, WLHS club members are working hard to compete in two qualifying tournaments that lead to a the first international competition at the University of Maryland, College Park in Spring 2016. In addition, the Robotics Club is seeking help with raising money for tournament registration fees. Empty BowlsA soup and bread dinner fundraiser to benefit Grassroots is being hosted by the Wilde Lake High School National Honor Society and Culinary Department on Thursday, December 10, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Admission to Empty Bowls 2015 is $10 and includes a handmade ceramic bowl and all the soup and bread you can eat. The public is welcome. Please pay at the door.

Village NewsUsed Sports Gear Drive at Claret Hall Now through Dec. 12Claret Hall is a drop off location for Leveling the Playing Field's sports equipment drive. Donated gear will be distributed to rec. league teams, youth programs, schools, and underserved youth across the country.One in five households are not participating in a sport because of the cost of equipment. The Youth and Teen Center has completed their clothing drive and now needs volunteers to help sort all the donations for

Teens, parents invited to learn more about CA’s 2016 Sister Cities Exchange Program

Parents and teens interested in learning about Columbia Association’s (CA)

annual summer Sister Cities High School Exchange program are invited to

attend one of four informational sessions.

The sessions will take place on Monday, Dec. 7; Thursday, Jan. 14; and

Wednesday, Jan. 27. All sessions are scheduled to be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills..

There are excellent scholarships available for Columbia residents who qualify. The application deadline is Feb. 19. For an
