About the Well-Being Index

In January 2008, Gallup and Healthways made a 25-year commitment to understand and improve Americans’ Well-Being

• 355,000 surveys completed (1,000 completed surveys per day, 7 days/week)

• The “official statistic” for measuring the daily pulse of the nation’s well-being

• Only index measuring positive/negative correlations between physical/emotional health, health behaviors, basic access to necessities, work environment, community/social support and economic factors driving well-being

• Helps communities, governments and organizations understand and improve their constituents decisions about health programs, work environment and leadership culture

Domains Measured in the Well-Being Index

The composite ranking by the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index measures six Well-Being domains, each determined based on scientific study of responses to 42 items/questions contained in the survey.

The six Well-Being domains are as follows:

1. Life Evaluation 4. Healthy Behavior

2. Work Quality 5. Physical Health

3. Basic Access 6. Emotional Health
