Why? Because of his young age and lack of experience. But, he cannot simply disregard the call of God but submit Himself into it. The 2nd reading pre- sents to us the invitation of Paul to the Romans to surrender to God’s will and be transformed by it. In the Gospel, Peter is re- buked by Jesus for his human ways of thinking. Disciples are asked to vacate the self to follow Christ. Why does Jesus call Peter Satan or Devil in this Sunday's Gospel? Last Sunday he was appreciated by Jesus because among the disciples and the people around Jesus, it was only Peter who gave the correct answer to the question of Jesus, “Who do you say that I am?" Thus, in this Sunday’s reading, Jesus called him as such be- cause the task of Satan is to hinder God’s way. To hinder some- one, one has to block the path. That is what Peter does. He stands in front of Jesus, blocking his path and trying to get Jesus to change his mind. In other words, Peter plays Satan. Jesus reminds Peter that the place of a disciple is not in front of the master but behind him. We are all called to stand behind our Master, in order for us not to get lost on our way. We are all called to renounce our own will but embrace the will of the Father on a daily basis so that we may be guided toward the path of life pleasing to Him; the path to holi- ness.

School News

Our first reading this 22nd Sunday in ordinary time is about the

predicaments and reluctance of Jeremiah in accepting the invita-

tion of God as a prophet for his Kingdom. Why? Because of his

young age and lack of experience. But, he cannot simply disregard

the call of God but submit Himself into it. The 2nd reading pre-

sents to us the invitation of Paul to the Romans to surrender to

God’s will and be transformed by it. In the Gospel, Peter is re-

buked by Jesus for his human ways of thinking. Disciples are

asked to vacate the self to follow Christ.

Why does Jesus call Peter Satan or Devil in this Sunday's Gospel?

Last Sunday he was appreciated by Jesus because among the

disciples and the people around Jesus, it was only Peter who gave

the correct answer to the question of Jesus, “Who do you say that I

am?" Thus, in this Sunday’s reading, Jesus called him as such be-

cause the task of Satan is to hinder God’s way. To hinder some-

one, one has to block the path. That is what Peter does. He stands

in front of Jesus, blocking his path and trying to get Jesus to

change his mind. In other words, Peter plays Satan. Jesus reminds

Peter that the place of a disciple is not in front of the master but

behind him.

We are all called to stand behind our Master, in order for us not to

get lost on our way. We are all called to renounce our own will but

embrace the will of the Father on a daily basis so that we may be

guided toward the path of life pleasing to Him; the path to holi-

ness.

R.C.I.A.: Rite of Christian Initiation of

Adults is a journey, not only into the Catholic

Church, but even more importantly, a journey in-

to a deeper relationship with God. Each person

who participates in R.C.I.A. experiences a mean-

ingful conversion as they travel with the group

throughout the year.

Jesus said to them, “Come, and you will

see.” (Jn 1:39). To every person, Jesus sends a

personal invitation into a personal relationship

with Him. We invite all who are interested in the

possibilities offered to be a part of our Catholic

faith to “come and see”.

At SEAS we will begin our new R.C.I.A. year

on September 5th at 7 pm. We look forward to

welcoming people who are unbaptized, those

looking into the possibility of becoming Catholic

from other faith traditions, those Catholics wish-

ing to complete the Sacraments of Initiation and

those looking for a faith update.

Perhaps Jesus is working through you to-

day to invite someone to enter into R.C.I.A. Do

you know anyone whose name you can give?

We will extend the invitation to them to “Come

and See”. Contact Mary Beth Bragiel 907-727-

All are welcome!

What is a Pallium?

The modern pallium is a circular band about two inches wide,

worn about the neck, breast, and shoulders, and having two

pendants, one hanging down in front and one behind.

Worn by the pope, the pallium symbolizes the plenitudo

pontificalis officii (i.e. the plenitude of pontifical office); worn

by archbishops, it typifies their participation in the supreme

pastoral power of the pope, who concedes it to them for their

proper church provinces.

‘NO GUILT. NO SHAME. NO REGRETS.’

Minutes before her abortion, she changed her mind and walked out.

By Save the Storks | July 31, 2017— …I sat in the abortion clinic for

nearly seven hours…. Below is [what I wrote] from that day and I

remember crying the entire time I was writing it. I hope that by shar-

ing this that it touches someone.

“Today I was at the abortion clinic. I had my mind made up. My

boyfriend was cheating on me. I have small kids, what will people

think? I kept telling myself I’m all alone, I need to do this.

Sitting there… I could hardly make out anyone or anything

through the tears. People were eating fast food around me, laughing,

texting. I, on the other hand, was a wreck. I kept my face down–it

was drenched in tears….

But my heart was heavy. I felt like I was about to make a horrible,

horrible decision and God was giving me signs to not do it.

…my daughter was sick, I had to find a sitter, I got lost, my car

broke down for about 15 minutes and I got here late… I prayed God

would stop and give me a sign–give me the strength to get up and

walk out of there.

The lady called me to the desk…. I fumbled through my wallet

to find my driver’s license and out fell a card a couple left on the

table Saturday night when I was working. It had their church name

on it. On the back was a common verse…

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am

your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with

my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

I knew God was speaking to me.

Two of my best friends called me just in time and said the most

comforting things. “I will be there for you…There’s a reason God gave

you that gift.”

I told the lady I changed my mind. As I was about to walk out, a

young girl, no older than probably 19 said to me, “Are you going to

do it?” I told her I couldn’t and she said, “I wish I could be brave like

you.” I told her she was brave and she could do the same thing. She

said she had to do it because of some serious circumstances.

As I turned around she said, “When you see your baby’s face

for the first time you’re gonna be so glad you walked out of here

today.”

…Most of all I remember the enormous amount of relief and

strength I felt when I walked out of those doors. No guilt. No shame.

No regrets….

My daughter Vaida Everly has a purpose. Her name means

beautiful life. And she is just that–a beautiful life…. https://

You play a vital role in passing on the gift of Catholic education

to the next generation. Next weekend marks the Catholic

Schools Special Collection in the Archdiocese.

We invite you to join us in supporting our school by making a

gift to the Annual Fund through the Special Collection the

weekend of September 9th/10th. Donations from the Annual

Fund support the operating costs for this school year, bridging

the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate a child.

A successful Annual Fund drive helps keep tuition as afforda-

ble as possible. Your generosity helps us provide financial

assistance to those desiring an education at Saint Elizabeth’s

who may not otherwise be able to afford it. It also helps us

provide resources for our teachers as they strive to prepare

our children to be morally-strong, well-educated and responsi-

bly-involved citizens.

Information about our annual fund is on our web site . Go to

www.akseas.com to donate online! If your employer matches

donations to accredited schools, your gift to St. Elizabeth’s

may be eligible for matching funds.

Thank you for helping to ensure our school remains one com-

mitted to faith, family and excellence. Thank you for support-

ing our parish school’s Annual Fund!

around the world. We learned how people say hello in Mexico and

Italy. Then we are learning where those countries are located on the

world map!

Lisa Orizotti, First Grade

Second graders are learning to write meaningful, beautiful stories

by recalling their five senses and adding details to their writing. We

have future authors in the making!

Kristin Starr, Second Grade

In Fourth grade religion we are learning about Saint Thomas

Aquinas and his books, hymns and prayers. We are studying his

writings on the mystery of the Holy Trinity.

Season of Creation: Sept. 1

through Oct. 4th: In 2015 Pope

Francis published his letter ”Laudato

si” to more than just “people of good

will” but to “every person living on

this planet.” Basing his reflections

on Gospel readings, the exhortations of previous popes, other

Church documents, science and his own prayerful observations,

he was calling all of us to enter into serious dialogue about care

of our common home, including brining the whole human family

together. As a start he declared a time of prayer and attention to

Creation, the whole month of September and ending on the

Feast of St. Francis. To begin our celebrations we invite you to

join us in meandering in God’s Creation.

Meanderings in God’s Creation: Sept. 6th, 6pm. Meet at St.

Elizabeth’s and we’ll carpool to Ruth Arcand park as parking is

limited at the site. Once there we’ll walk down to a stream for a

prayer service. There is a backup plan in case of rain. Check our

parish website for further details or email

Labor Day, Sept. 4th:

The sacredness of every human being demands respect,

acceptance and dignified work for each one. Dignified

work!

Work expresses the human being’s dignity of being created

in the image of God. Therefore, it is said that work is

sacred.” Pope Francis
