EMC Ionix Unified Infrastructure Manager
Single point of management for Vblock infrastructuresEMC® Ionix™ Unified Infrastructure Manager (UIM) enables simplified, integrated provisioning,
configuration, change, and compliance management for Vblock Infrastructure Packages (VIPs). As
the newest addition to the EMC Ionix IT management portfolio, Ionix UIM is purpose-built for Vblock
infrastructure element management, managing the Vblocks as a single entity. This dramatically
reduces operational expenditures—while providing simplified management functionality that
empowers companies to more easily make the transition from physical to virtual to private cloud
infrastructures. Upon initial release, Ionix UIM will fully support management of the Cisco Unified
Computing System (UCS). This will evolve into full support of Vblock infrastructures.
Key Capabilities

Analysis
Overview of Cisco UCS configuration changes
Service profile catalogService profiles are the “recipe” for building services and the basis for delivering “infrastructure as
a service.” With Ionix UIM you can build various tiers of service profiles for network, compute, and
storage configurations and combine them into an “offering” for customers. This enables Vblock
components to be delivered as standard units of service to a customer, selected via the Vblock
dashboard. Service profile capabilities will be provided for Cisco infrastructure in the first release.
Policy-based managementConfiguration policies can be set and enforced to ensure system-wide compliance to avoid configura-
tion drift. The first release of Ionix UIM provides this for Cisco UCS and related network infrastructure
suchasCiscoNexusandMDSdevices.
Unified provisioning, configuration, and changeIonix UIM provides automated infrastructure deployment and bare metal provisioning. This includes
automated provisioning of disaster recovery site infrastructure. UIM leverages cross-domain context
tomanagedependenciesbetweensoftware,hardware,network,andstorage.Deepandgranular
discovery provides a foundational basis to Ionix UIM’s provisioning, configuration, and change—
enabling unlimited revision history and fine-grained tracking, traceability, reproducibility. The first
release of Ionix UIM focuses on unified provisioning, configuration, and change for Cisco UCS and
relatednetworkinfrastructuresuchasCiscoNexusandMDSdevices.
Simplified integrationIonix UIM Vblock element management integrates with your enterprise management solution
providing change and compliance events to help track critical changes. UIM also leverages Cisco
UCS Manager APIs and EMC storage management systems, taking advantage of existing instrumenta-
tion and component configuration.
