EMC® SAN Copy™ helps businesses to quickly and easily move data from one storage system to another without

using application server cycles or local area network bandwidth. SAN Copy provides flexible server

– and platform – independent copy and movement capabilities over the storage area network (SAN) or wide area

network (WAN via FC/IP).

Simple yet powerful configurations

SAN Copy is flexible, helping you to configure an environment that meets your specific business requirements.

SAN Copy, running on a Dell/EMC networked storage system, communicates with other storage systems and data

via World Wide Names and/or port/LUN number combinations. The data movement is performed at the block level

for high-speed copying over the SAN or WAN. SAN Copy runs on Dell/EMC CX700, CX500, CX600, CX400 and

FC4700 systems and can “push” full or incremental copies of data or “pull” full copies from these arrays to any

supported EMC or third-party array.

SAN Copy/E is available for Dell/EMC CX300 and AX100 systems and can “push” full or incremental copies of data

from these arrays to any larger Dell/EMC CX system running SAN Copy. SAN Copy/E is ideal for the enterprise

customer deploying smaller CLARiiON® systems in departments or branch offices.

Data movement without impacting production

Operating independently of application servers, SAN Copy™ helps eliminate unnecessary file transfer overhead.

SAN Copy supports data movement between various systems, including Dell/EMC, Symmetrix®, Hitachi Data

Systems®, Hewlett-Packard™, IBM® and Sun® storage arrays, giving you the flexibility to deploy a data mobility

configuration across varying heterogeneous systems. SAN Copy can also use SnapView™, TimeFinder® or third party

storage replicas as the “source data” when copying information from one system to another.

Flexibility to move and copy large amounts of information

Depending on the Dell/EMC array deployed, you can execute up to 16 simultaneous active copy sessions per SAN

Copy application. A single SAN Copy session can support up to 100 destination volumes per source volume, allowing

you to move or update large numbers of volumes at one time. SAN Copy also allows you to start, pause and resume

copy operations with continuous checkpoints, helping to ensure data integrity. With EMC Navisphere® management

software you can throttle the priority of a SAN Copy operation during periods of heavy system usage.

Integrates with SnapView and Replication Manager family to help provide disaster recovery capabilities

SAN Copy, in combination with SnapView and Replication Manager, offers a disaster recovery solution for

applications consolidated on CLARiiON® CX series systems. SnapView clones provide for local operational recovery

while SAN Copy is used to copy data to a remote system for disaster recovery. Replication Manager streamlines the

process by coordinating with the host/application to create the clone, managing the copy process to the second,

and handling all of the steps required in the event of a recovery.

Facilitates data migration to Dell/EMC storage

Migrating from legacy storage to new storage systems can often be a painful and difficult process. SAN Copy

can help facilitate data migration to CLARiiON storage since it can “pull” or copy data from third party

sources to CLARiiON.
