customer chAllengesA large southwestern international airport had a requirement to update their aging Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Crash Phone System with newer enhanced functionality. They needed additional origination and two-way conference points and a “unique” function tone that would be heard over crash phone handsets and public-address speakers until all required parties joined the call. This became an even more complex issue as the time of day determined which of the parties were required call participants. Other requirements included connectivity with multiple airport sites, adherence to the FAA Advisory Circular on ARFF Communications and sophisticated monitoring capabilities.
VAlue DeliVereD by VAlcom solutionValcom designed and deployed a customized First Responder IP Communication solution that included expanded conferencing capabilities to instantly connect first responders and to enhance command/control capabilities. The solution provided immediate communication between the Airport Tower, ARFF Fire Station, Harbor Police, Remote Ramp, Terminal areas and the County Emergency Response Center with capabilities for future expansion.
Valcom’s solution interfaced with the airport’s network, new/existing analog crash telephones and PA speakers, as well as with ARFF controls for activating bay doors, lights, etc. The solution was installed in parallel with the old system to eliminate downtime. Additional functionality included system/fault monitoring and logging, audible/visual indicators to identify network issues, on-site installation support and programming/training.
