Tornado (Code Green) – EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

The Tornado Watch is a weather bureau alert to the general population that tornadoes are possible. A severe storm system is approaching which may result in possible tornadoes.

The Tornado Warning is when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Tornado sirens will be initialed in the community. At the time, the following plan will be put into effect:

When the tornado warning is issued, the siren will indicate that movement into the basements and away from windows (hallway of the main floor for Academy, Knoxville South and Youth Farm Administrative Building) is mandatory for staff and youth.

Staff will proceed to a position in the basement/hall which is farthest from all windows and will provide protection from flying debris. Usually, this will be in the deepest point below the ground part of the basement. Gymnasiums are NOT safe in a tornado, and are not to be used.

Treat each and every threat seriously. If staff receive a threat from an individual reporting a bomb threat, they should transfer the call to the CEO at x7218, or notify the CEO immediately. If unable to connect to the CEO-- STAY CALM. Talk with the caller and pay close attention to details, TAKE NOTES.

Immediately following the completion of the threat, call Code Black. All staff and clients will evacuate as though it were a fire. Do not touch or move suspicious items.

Questions to ask person making threat: When is the bomb going to explode? Where is the bomb right now? What does it look like? What kind of bomb is it? What will cause it to explode? Did you place the bomb? Where are you calling from? Who is the target? What is your name? Why are you doing this?

Infectious Disease Protocol

Personal Hygiene Interventions:Clean HandsCover Your CoughContain Germso Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough

or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. o Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-

based hands cleaners are also effective. o Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are spread in that manner. o Try to avoid close contact with infected individuals.o Avoid using items belonging to other individuals, such as phones or computers.

Facility Precautions:Facilities management will ensure that adequate stocks of cleaning materials and hand soaps/sanitizers are available prior to major outbreaks.Special attention should be paid to surfaces that come into contact with infected individuals during a significant outbreak. Door knobs and other commonly used surfaces should be wiped down every 4-6 hours. For the residential cottages where the residents are primarily responsible for a majority of the cleaning duties, extra support will be given by agency Housekeeping to ensure a sanitary environment.
