Emergency Safety Officer Training

This course will familiarize attendees with hazards and stressors that may impact the health and safety of workers and responders at a disaster site. Students will apply their knowledge of safety and incident command in a disaster scenario and employ Incident Command System methodology to review and/or develop safety and medical plans, safety messages, and a safety analysis of an Incident Action Plan.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARNStudents who complete this course will able to:• Effectively integrate safety planning into the Incident Command System• Address hazards and evaluate risks associated with a disaster site, beyond the
day-to-day work environment• Identify and triage controls for hazards in a resource constrained environment• Understand and respond to psychosocial impacts of working in a high stress
disaster environment
INTENDED AUDIENCE• Personnel who serve as Incident Commanders, Safety Officers, or other safety-
relevant roles in an Incident Command System (ICS)• Emergency responders who may fulfill the role of a Safety Officer, Assistant
Safety Officer, or technical safety staff in an Incident Command System• Emergency managers and planners• Industrial hygiene and safety professionals from general industry, construction,
maritime, and other industries who have assigned responsibilities in anemergency response

Her research interests and expertise are in the use of public policy to enhance health outcomes during and after disaster.

public agencies, including the Port of Seattle and Sound Transit, and with several manufacturing companies. She has managed indus-trial hygiene and hazardous materials management programs throughout her career, and worked closely with local emergency managers and emergency responders, while managing the emergency management program at Sound Transit.
