Design ConceptThe unfinished portion of this family’s basement is designed to include a bedroom, bathroom, workout room, office, and storage space. The functional layout separates public and private space, allows for an abundance of light, and provides adequate circulation. The contemporary design style in the space makes it feel airy and connected to the rest of the home. This family-oriented space is perfect for the client’s lifestyle and accomodates their wants and needs for now and the future.
Café Mood Fall 2014
76
Design ConceptCafé Mood is located in Morrill Hall on Iowa State University’s campus. The concept is based on a sculpture created by my partner and I. From our sculpture, we designed a space with a similar color scheme that would appeal to everyone. Individuals have the choice to work alone, in small groups, or congregate in large groups. The meeting room in the middle is surrounded by a fish tank that can be seen throughout the entire space. There is an angled café counter to provide interest and adequate circulation, as well as a fireplace to provide warmth. Café Mood’s light and airy quality welcomes both students and staff to study while enjoying a cup of coffee in this unique space.

Kitchen Remodel Fall 2013
Design ConceptThe original kitchen in this home was small and dark with outdated cabinets and little countertop space. It was enclosed and had no circulation flow. By removing the wall in between the kitchen and dining room, it immediately opened up the space and allowed for a completely new layout. A kitchen island created more seating, storage, and countertop space. Real wood mahogony cabinets were chosen to go along with the lighter mahogony laminate floors that flow through the entire main floor. A quartz countertop with copper flecks is the focal point of the kitchen, and the copper accents in the backspash ties it all together. Brushed nickel hardware adds to the contemporary style. Extra storage can be found in the custom bench seating around the dining table. With windows and a door leading outside, as well as added interior lighting, the space is light all the time. With this design, the kitchen is now both beautiful and functional.
