This awning provides a new covered external space that acts as a focus and gathering point for both Auditorium & the adjacent chapel. One of the key challenges of this project was managing the movement of construction materials in and out of the extremely tight site. To address this, Alder utilised a tower crane that was temporarily installed in one of the lift shafts. The crane was utilised to safely and efficiently deliver and erect materials needed to construct the Auditorium’s shell and was dismantled once all acoustic wall cladding was completed. Works were completed to an exceptionally high level of quality in June 2012.
