Souderton Alive! Worship in the Park Insert
A Pastoral Letter for Summer
As I write to you, it is dark and has been
raining for the last week and that has dampened
many spirits. I can’t cut my lawn or plant my
patio flowers as yet. But, a special thank you
to all for the “Gardening Gift”. There is just
not enough good weather to plant right now.
The news of the world is not much sunnier, ten
students and teachers were killed in yet another
school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. The United
States has pulled out of a nuclear agreement
with Iran; Israelis are shooting many
Palestinians on their border with Gaza. The
news of the world is dark.
We can’t forecast or control the weather, tragic
deaths, nor the political winds and storms
around the world. So how should a Christian
sitting in Souderton or Telford react to the
darkness? What can we do about any of the
troubling events that surround us? The answer
is that we can be creative, we can imitate God.
In Genesis Chapter one, we see that the very
first thing God created was light. And, God
said “let there be light” and there was light.
Genesis also says we were created in God’s
image, in God’s likeness. So, we have the
power to be creative, to bring light. Now, we
can’t create the world, we can’t create a big
impressive universe, no.
The sainted Mother Teresa of Calcutta said,
“We can’t do big things for God, but we can do
small things with great love”. Mother Teresa,
as she picked up dying souls from the streets
and gave them a dignified home, brought the
light of God to one person at a time. She did
small acts of mercy and charity that produced
light. She was creative with God. She brought
light to darkness.
At Emmanuel Church, we each have the
creative power of God to bring light to others in
some small and loving way. As a congregation,
we have even more power to bring light and
mercy to others, which is our purpose. In
Matthew’s gospel, Jesus says to followers:
“You are the light of the world, don’t hide it”.
In the coming months of the summer into the
fall, Emmanuel’s leaders will be working with
Peaceful Living to bring light and hope to
persons with intellectual disabilities. As many
of you already know, we are considering
partnering with Peaceful Living and sharing the
former Sunday School space with them to
advance their care of the disabled. Please pray
with me this summer that as a congregation we
can bring light to those who are disabled, both
as a congregation and as individuals. We can’t
do great things for God, but we can do small
things with great love. We can bring light.
Let light shine out of darkness,
Pastor Guiser

From the Director of Music
With summer rapidly approaching, and the
choirs taking a well-deserved break during the
months of June, July, and August, I am searching
for volunteers to provide special music during
our summer services. If you’re interested, please
let me know as soon as possible. Thank you!

Lutheran Community Telford
LCT Advisory Committee Report
The LCT Advisory Committee held its Quarterly
meeting on April 17th. This is a committee of
members of the 12 supporting congregations.
Ellen Shrager, LCT Executive Director, brought
the committee up to date on the census of
Independent Living, Personal Care and
Healthcare (skilled nursing). Several studios in
Personal Care are being renovated to
accommodate requests for more modern spaces,
including a living area, kitchenette and bedroom.
Dan McKee, CEO, reported that the Grove
Expansion Project is moving forward.
Approximately 100 units will be added, 68
duplexes and 36 apartments. There are 40 on the
wait list for cottages already.
The Center for Community Life is open and a
busy place for LCT residents. The new Program
Specialist is working with residents to get them
registered and cleared by their physicians to
participate in the fitness programs that are being
conducted in the new fitness center there. More
than 80 residents have completed the process and
many more are working on it.
Renovations in the Administrations Building are
almost complete. Renovated space includes a 30
seat movie room, arts and crafts room, wood
shop, game and model train room. This
renovation allows most of the resident activity
space to be housed in a more central location to
make the activities and events more easily
accessible to residents.
There are also various employment opportunities
which can be found by visiting LCT website at
www.lctford.org.
