>EMPIRE= STRIKES BACK
Since 2004, winners of the GI Arkansas Derby have gone on to
post victories in no fewer than eight subsequent 3-year-old
Classic races, including the history-making Triple Crown sweep
by American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in 2015. Entering this
season, John Oxley=s Classic Empire (Pioneerof the Nile) was the
one they were all aiming for. After all, the lone blemish on his
juvenile ledger was the GI Hopeful S., when he wheeled at the
break and lost jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. Victories in Keeneland=s GI
Claiborne Breeders= Futurity in October and a narrow success in
the GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile the following month clinched an
Eclipse statuette, but to say 2017 had gotten off to a far less
straight-forward beginning would be a monumental
understatement. Extremely disappointing when only third to
>TDN Rising Star= Irish War Cry (Curlin) as the 1-2 chalk in the GII
Lambholm South Holy Bull S. Feb. 4, Classic Empire was off the
worktab for better than five weeks with a foot abscess and back
issue and flat out refused to breeze in South Florida Mar. 20
before a decision was made to send the colt to Winding Oaks
Farm near Ocala. Originally pointing for the GII Toyota Blue
Grass, Classic Empire was instead re-routed to Arkansas, and
suggested to his connections of late that he was rounding into
something approaching his form of 2016. Saturday afternoon, in
front of a typically large closing-day card at the Central Arkansas
oval, Classic Empire came charging down the center of the track
to thrust himself straight back into the thick of the Kentucky
Derby picture just three weeks down the road. Cont. p3
DICKINSON, WATERSHED TOP SPECTACULAR
GODOLPHIN FOUR-TIMER AT KEENELAND Kiaran McLaughlin was born in Lexington, attended the nearby
university and sets out each spring and each fall to make an
impression when the racing is on at Keeneland. Saturday, on
behalf of his chief client Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al
Maktoum=s Godolphin, McLaughlin registered a memorable
four-timer. For good measure, each was by a current or former
Darley stallion. Tasteful (Street Cry {Ire}) became a >TDN Rising
Star= with a stirring maiden win in race four, while Zennor
(Medaglia d=Oro) doubled up in race six. >Rising Star= Watershed
(Bernardini) made the grade in the GIII Ben Ali S., but the day=s
best came from Dickinson (Medaglia d=Oro), who overcame
traffic at the furlong grounds and ran down favored Lady Eli
(Divine Park) in the GI Coolmore Jenny Wiley S. AFor Godolphin,
it=s a great day, and she=s just a nice filly,@ McLaughlin said. AJust
unbelievable to win four at Keeneland, especially ending on a
Grade I.@ Cont. p5

In a mad dash through the opening furlong, it was Petrov
(Flatter) who had a head in front passing the judge for the first time, but he had all sorts of company inside and out,
including Conquest Mo Money from the four path and second favorite Malagacy (Shackleford)--away only fairly from gate
12--widest out. Julien Leparoux had Classic Empire in an
amongst that front rank very early, but took a pull and got his
colt to race inside of three runners comprising the second
flight of horses. Grandpa=s Dream (Shackleford) took the
initiative turning up the backstretch to lead from Conquest
Mo Money, while Malagacy raced in the three path with
Classic Empire on his back. Untrapped, in no-man=s land at
the five-eighths, went for an early run, but was no better than
four or five deep on the track, with Malagacy just ahead and
Classic Empire to his inside and about a half-length behind.
The top eight were covered by about four lengths with a half-
mile to travel, and Conquest Mo Money was the first to make a decisive move to head off Grandpa=s Dream into the turn, but Malagacy and Untrapped were revving up three and four wide, respectively, while Leparoux continued to slipstream
Malagacy. The latter poked his nose in front in upper stretch,
but his lead was short-lived as Conquest Mo Money punched
right back, despite some wayward antics approaching the final
eighth of a mile. The blue-collar runner began reaching for the
wire, but Classic Empire, pulled out into about the four path at
the top of the lane, ran him down in the dying strides.
AI was pretty nervous,@ trainer Mark Casse admitted. AWe run
a lot of places, but I was probably a little more nervous. I went
and walked up and down inside, watched it on TV. About the
eighth pole everybody around me started looking, because I was
doing some yelling. I wasn=t sure he was going to get there. I was
afraid that maybe late he=d get tired. But it was exciting. I=ll
never forget it.@
Asked if he=d have been satisfied with a board finish, Casse
added, AI would have been. That thought went through my head
about the eighth pole. I said, >He=s running well. If he runs 1-2-3,
that=s OK, second or third.= But I never gave up. I was still
wanting him to win, but that thought did go through my head.@

Javier Castellano, rider of Malagacy, bemoaned the actions of
the gate crew and said, AThey didn=t give me a chance to load

think he lost a little of momentum there. I had to use a little bit
to get him into position. He gave me a good run, he is a fighter,
he fought all the way to the end. I mean I am not disappointed
at all, he gave me great effort and I am so proud of the horse.@
Pedigree Notes:
Classic Empire=s dam Sambuca Classica was winless in eight
starts for winning breeders Steven and Brandi Nicholson, but
her second foal Anytime Magic (Fusaichi Pegasus) was a two-
time stakes winner. Her third foal Uptown Twirl (Twirling
Candy), who is a year older than Classic Empire, was a $110,000
KEESEP yearling turned $630,000 OBS March juvenile purchase
by bloodstock agent David Ingordo on behalf of Kosta Hronis=s
Hronis Racing. She won four of nine starts for Hronis and trainer
John Sadler, including a pair of stakes in California, and was
hammered down to Three Chimneys Farm for $1.075-million at
the 2016 Keeneland November sale, just days after Classic
Empire=s Breeders= Cup victory. Sambuca Classica, a daughter of
SW & MGISP In Her Glory (Miswaki), is also responsible for a
juvenile colt by Concord Point. She was bred back to Uncle Mo
after that, but aborted the foal and produced a Candy Ride (Arg)
filly Mar. 4 of this year. Classic Empire is the second juvenile
champion for his sire Pioneerof the Nile, whose first Eclipse
winner was Triple Crown hero American Pharoah, the top
juvenile colt of 2014 and champion 3-year-old male and Horse
of the Year in 2015. Click here for more on owner John Oxley.

Dickinson hit the ground running and was prominent passing
under the line for the first time, but Catch a Glimpse (City Zip)
showed the most speed, and when Illuminant (Quality Road)
improved her position into second, Dickinson was gifted the box
seat from third with a circuit to travel. Lady Eli, having her first
run of the year and first since her runner-up effort in the
GI Breeders= Cup Filly & Mare Turf, tracked Dickinson from fifth
while firing up just a bit beneath regular rider Irad Ortiz Jr. With
Paco Lopez riding for luck from the inside rail, Dickinson was
short of room as she went for a gap between Catch a Glimpse
and Illuminant, and that allowed Lady Eli to quicken past and
into a clear lead with her typically strong turn of acceleration.
Dickinson, checked first off the heels of the front-runners, was
forced to wait for Lady Eli to clear, but once pointed towards
daylight, drew upon her superior race fitness to pull the minor
upset as the only other horse in the markets.
AI had a little trouble,@ Lopez offered. AI wanted to go through
on the rail and it opened up a little bit but I couldn=t get through.
When the other horse [Lady Eli] passed me, we got room and I
still had a lot of filly.@
McLaughlin indicated that Dickinson was likely to remain at a
mile for the GI Just A Game S. June 10, a race won by the
Medaglia d=Oro fillies C. S. Silk (2011) and Coffee Clique (2014).
A two-time winner on the main track from her first eight trips
to the post, Dickinson had reinvented herself as a turf filly of
potential importance with a pair of allowance wins at the tail
end of 2016 and victories in the GIII Suwannee River S. and
GII Hillsborough S. in her two most recent appearances.
Pedigree Notes:
Dickinson is the 17th individual Grade I winner for Medaglia
d=Oro and second produced by an A. P. Indy mare (Plum Pretty).
Medaglia d=Oro was represented by his 100th black-type winner
overall when >TDN Rising Star= Ever So Clever took out Friday=s
GIII Fantasy S. Dickinson is the first stakes winner produced by
Godolphin=s Little Belle, winner of the 2008 GI Ashland S. at
Keeneland and runner-up to Proud Spell (Proud Citizen) in that
year=s GI Kentucky Oaks. A full-sister to SW Dubai Dancer,
Dickinson is a maternal great-granddaughter of blue-hen
Flagbird (Nureyev), whose half-sisters include Grade I winners
Prospectors Delite (Mr. Prospector), the dam of Horse of the
Year Mineshaft (A.P. Indy); and Runup the Colors (A.P. Indy),
whose son Revolutionary (War Pass) won the 2013 GII Louisiana
Derby. Dickinson hails from the further female family of the ill-
fated GSW Newfangled (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) and
Godolphin=s >TDN Rising Stars= Bay of Plenty (Medaglia d=Oro,
SW & GSP) and Fortify (Distorted Humor, GISP). While there is
no further produce to report for Little Belle, the now 18-year-
old Dubai Belle is the dam of a 2-year-old colt by Medaglia d=Oro
and foaled a filly by Medaglia d=Oro earlier this year.

AHe=s a horse that just made the step to the next level, and he

of credit. It was his idea two starts back to take the blinkers off

Sent off the long odds-on favorite to remain perfect at sprint
trips, Whitmore inhaled his rivals at the midstretch point and
shot clear from there to take Saturday=s GIII Count Fleet Sprint
H.
Drawn one from the outside in the field of nine, Whitmore
settled in a centerfield position, about six lengths from the front,
as Chief Cicatriz (Munnings) and Holy Boss threw down through
a fast opening quarter-mile in :21.26. With Ricardo Santana Jr.
sitting hard against him, Whitmore was still trapped deep
entering the turn, but when Moe Candy (Candy Ride {Arg})
rolled up behind, Santana let it out a notch and the duo fanned
five or six deep into the lane under a full head of steam.
Straightened up for the drive, Whitmore descended on the
leading pair within a matter of strides, was well clear into the
final eighth of a mile and proved far too classy in the finish.
AI think he=s still learning this new game, but he likes it a lot,@
said winning trainer Ron Moquett. AIt=s easy on him. Someone
asked me earlier, >How did you teach him to sprint?= I said,
>That=s not the training feat. The training feat was getting him to
be third in the Arkansas Derby and second in the Rebel.= He=s
always wanted to do this.@
The winner could make his next start in the seven-furlong
GII Churchill Downs S. May 6, with the GI Breeders= Cup Sprint
the long-term objective.
Though he has shown a propensity for shorter distances,
Whitmore was something other than an abject failure going a
route of ground this time last year, as he finished runner-up in
the GIII Southwest S. and GII Rebel S. before rounding out the
trifecta behind Creator (Tapit) in the GI Arkansas Derby. Well
beaten in the GI Kentucky Derby, he shined in a pair of
appearances at this oval this term, including a six-length tour-
de-force in the Mar. 11 Hot Springs S. For a feature on trainer

advance of >TDN Rising Star= Time To Travel (Hard Spun) and
ultimately fellow >Rising Star= Souper Tapit (Tapit). Allowed to
ride the rail down the back and into the far turn, Senior
Investment was steered around the weakening Resiliency
midway on the turn, but there was still plenty of work to be
done, as Time To Travel looked to have something left, while
favored West Coast was warming up to the task despite sitting
three and four wide the trip. The latter was able to sustain his
momentum into the final eighth of a mile and looked to have
the race sewn up, but Senior Investment stuck to his guns and
quickened nicely in the final 100 yards to shove his head across
the line first. No Dozing, difficult to handle through the middle
furlongs, surrendered first run to Senior Investment entering the
lane, but kept to his task to be involved in the photo. Time To
Travel, backing up and stretching out on just two weeks= rest,
finished an admirable fourth.
AHe timed it right,@ commented winning rider Channing Hill.
AOnce I got him tipped out where he could really stretch his legs
out, he came home nice. At the eighth pole, I wasn=t 100% sure I
was going to get there, but he was really running on. This is a
really nice colt--really special. When I won on him at Oaklawn,
he showed a lot, showed a turn of foot, too. Today, he was the
best one.@
Trainer Ken McPeek lamented the fact that the Lexington did
not offer additional points on the road to the Kentucky Derby,
but added that the GI Preakness S. could come under
consideration.
Disqualified to seventh from an apparent first-level allowance
win at the Fair Grounds Jan. 27, Senior Investment cleared off to
annex an Oaklawn allowance by three lengths Feb. 18. Tested
for class in the GII Louisiana Derby last time Apr. 1, he stayed on
at one pace to finish sixth, 5 3/4 lengths adrift of the victorious
Girvin (Tale of Ekati).

Godolphin and conditioner Kiaran McLaughlin had already
celebrated two wins on Keeneland=s Saturday card, and enjoyed
another trip to the winner=s circle--but not their last of the
afternoon--with >TDN Rising Star= Watershed.
Sitting just off the pace while in between rivals around the first
bend, the homebred drafted in fifth behind splits of :23.95 and
:47.17 provided by Conquest Enforcer (Into Mischief) and
prompted by Bird Song. Watershed was pushed along to inch
closer as Bird Song--the last-out GIII Fred Hooper S. winner--
took over and opened up at the quarter pole. The leader
seemed like he might run up the score approaching midstretch,
but he soon grew leg weary and Watershed swarmed him and
kicked away convincingly.
A[Jockey] Paco [Lopez] rode a great race,@ McLaughlin said.
AIt=s always wonderful to win here in our hometown, Lexington,
and at Keeneland. It=s a great crowd, great people and it=s fun to
win.@
Third in last February=s G3 Firebreak S. in Dubai, Watershed
annexed a Saratoga optional claimer going this distance last July,
but settled for third at 4-5 in the GIII Philip H. Iselin S. at
Monmouth. Fifth in Belmont=s GI Jockey Club S. in October and
in Aqueduct=s Queens County S. in December, Watershed aired
by 9 1/2 lengths in sloppy, rained-off optional claimer at
Gulfstream Jan. 29. He was ninth--albeit only beaten two
lengths--in that venue=s grassy GII Mac Diarmada S. last out
Mar. 4.

thought he was better on dirt,@ McLaughlin added. AWe=re

Baoma Corp=s Lord Simba went from maiden winner to graded

the GIII Los Angeles S. at Santa

the early strides, the bay ceded
his advantage to Kentuckian

through an opening quarter in

Lord Simba turned him back and
kicked away for an easy win
despite drifting out.
AHe=s been training really well

way he was training, we wanted to take a shot and it looks like it
was the right choice. From Martin [Garcia]=s body language, I
could tell he was confident the whole way. You never know
what they=re going to do when they take the step up in class, so
it was nice.@
Garcia added, AHe ran exactly the way I thought he would. I
didn=t want to take his speed away from him, so we pressed that
other horse. When I asked him to run, he took off like we just
got started.@
Lord Simba opened his career with three straight runner-up

GUNNEVERA GEARS UP AT GULFSTREAM WEST Gunnevera (Dialed In), last seen finishing a late-running third
to Always Dreaming (Bodemeister) in the GI Xpressbet Florida
Derby Apr. 1, returned to the worktab for the first time since
Saturday morning, working five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 at
Gulfstream Park West. Edgard Zayas was in the irons.
AIt went very well. He galloped out very, very good,@ trainer
Antonio Sano said. AHe was very relaxed, very quiet, very good. I
know the next race is not going to be an easy race, but my horse
is working very good,@ Sano added.
A $16,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase,
Gunnevera blew away his rivals in last year=s GIII Delta Jackpot S.
and returned to action with a runner-up effort to >TDN Rising
Star= Irish War Cry (Curlin) in the GII Holy Bull S.
Feb. 4. The chestnut routed Practical Joke (Into Mischief) by
nearly six lengths in the GII Fountain of Youth S., a performance
which was validated when the latter came back to complete the
exacta in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S. Apr. 8.
Late Saturday evening, Sano tweeted that Javier Castellano, in
the irons for each of Gunnevera=s three graded-stakes wins,
would retain the mount in the GI Kentucky Derby. Castellano
was also the regular rider for the previously undefeated >TDN

AIt was a little quicker than I would have liked for his first work
back,@ said 32-year-old trainer Joe Sharp.
ABoth he and Cool Arrow were on the bridle which is good.
Rosie was happy with it and he seems to be cooling out well
which will set him up for his work next week.@
Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith has taken the call on Girvin for
the Derby and will fly in for next weekend=s move. Sharp was
uncertain whether the work would take place at Trackside or at
Churchill.

GII TwinSpires.com Fair Grounds Oaks Apr. 1.
The homebred, trained by Wayne Catalano, was clocked in
fractions of :13, :25, :36 and :48.40 before galloping out an extra

TASTEFUL RALLIES TO ATDN RISING
STARDOM@
Godolphin=s Tasteful (Street Cry {Ire}), second at Gulfstream in
her Feb. 12 debut, was hammered down to 3-2 favoritism for
her second start at Keeneland Saturday and ran to the money
with an ultra-impressive victory to become the latest ATDN
Rising Star.@ Away slowly, the bay trailed the field while running
five wide through an opening quarter in :22.24 and began a
steady advance up the outside as the half went up in :48.78.
Way out in the center of the track turning for home, the
homebred made a powerful sweeping move and charged past
her rivals like they were standing still in the lane to win going
away by 3 3/4 lengths. Malibu Bonnie (Malibu Moon) was the
runner-up.
Tasteful=s dam Kinda Spicy, a Darley homebred conditioned by
Tom Albertrani, was two-for-two in her brief career, winning her
Belmont debut in 2011 by a dominant 6 3/4 lengths and
following suit with a decisive victory at Saratoga. The 9-year-old
mare has a juvenile colt by Street Sense and a yearling colt by
that same Darley sire. She was bred back to Ghostzapper. The
winner=s second dam is Chilean Horse of the Year Isola Piu Bella
(Chi), a MG1SW in her native country who also captured a pair
of Grade III events for Sumaya U.S. Stable and trainer Todd

Lady Aurelia | Coady
Cartier champion 2-year-old filly Lady Aurelia kicked off her
sophomore season in style with an impressive victory in
Keeneland=s Giant=s Causeway S. Shedding blinkers for this
Stateside return, the even-money favorite kept a watchful eye
on the leaders from fifth through a sharp first quarter in :21.79
and ranged up seven wide turning for home. Unleashing a
powerful turn of foot in the stretch, the ATDN Rising Star@
swiftly inhaled her older rivals and charged clear to a 2
1/2-length victory in 1:02.40. AShe did everything great,@
winning trainer Wesley Ward said. AThat is what we wanted to
do; get her back, get her to settle and make a run. She=s a
wonderful filly. She has a big future. [I=m] excited to get back
over to England to [Royal] Ascot. She=ll train right here at
Keeneland until we go.@ The conditioner added, A[Our] ultimate
goal is the [GI] Breeders= Cup [Turf Sprint]. That will be
five-eighths on the turf [at] Del Mar, which should suit her
perfectly.@ A dazzling 7 1/2-length debut winner over this course
last April, Lady Aurelia was even more impressive when winning
Royal Ascot=s G2 Queen Mary S. by a similar margin in June.
Remaining in Europe, the bay bested males in Deauville=s G1
Darley Prix Morny in August and checked in third in
Newmarket=s G1 Cheveley Park S. Sept. 24 before calling it quits
for the season. Stonestreet Stables purchased Lady Aurelia=s
dam D= Wildcat Speed, Horse of the Year in Puerto Rico and a
Grade II winner in the U.S., for $1 million at the 2005 Keeneland
November sale. Her best runner prior to Lady Aurelia is the now
7-year-old Titletown Five (Tiznow), who ran second in Oaklawn=s
Gazebo S. and earned $105,078. The 17-year-old mare has no

ROUGET SEEKS ELUSIVEFONTAINEBLEAU
Jean-Claude Rouget has yet to taste success in the G3 Prix de
Fontainebleau and sends forth a team of two for Sunday's latest
edition, which is again staged at Chantilly due to the ongoing
transformation of Longchamp's Bois de Boulogne track. The
Pau-based conditioner is represented by His Highness The Aga
Khan's Markazi (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), who lines up off an
impressive score in last month's Listed Prix Omnium II at
Saint-Cloud, and Brametot (Ire) (Rajsaman {Fr}), who makes his
seasonal return coming back from a win in last term's Listed
Grand Criterium de Bordeaux. Andre Fabre is at the other end of
the wins spectrum and will claim an outright record of ten
renewals should Xaarino (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr} prevail. Prince
Faisal bin Khaled's i90,000 ARQOCT bargain has done nothing
but improve since suffering a soft-ground debut defeat to
Brametot at Deauville in June, and goes postward off wins at
Chantilly and in the Listed Prix Francois Boutin back at Deauville
in August. Freddy Head's team has hit form and is represented
by Stunning Spirit (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) here. George
Strawbridge's homebred seeks to maintain an unbeaten
sophomore record returning off wins here and at Saint-Cloud
last month.

STALLION CAREER BECKONS FOR TIVACI Jockey Damien Oliver bridged a twelve moth gap since his last
Group 1 victory when he steered the Mike Moroney trained
Tivaci (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}) to a last to first win in the G1
Schweppes All Aged S. at Randwick on Saturday. The 4-year-old
appeared to have a lot to overcome given his wide draw and his
preference for coming from behind, on a day when racing
prominently near the rail was seemingly a big advantage. Oliver
and Moroney had formulated a plan however and they stuck to
their guns with the jockey content to have the whole field in
front of him at halfway. At that stage Jungle Edge (Aus) (Dubawi
{Ire}) was at the head of affairs but was being stalked all the
while by Le Romain (Aus) (Hard Spun) with the favourite English
(Aus) (Encosta De Lago {Aus) just tucked in behind this pair. As
they straightened up Le Romain made his play for victory as
English moved menacingly, looking set to atone for her previous
run when nailed by Chautauqua (Aus) (Encosta De Lago {Aus}) in
the T.J Smith S. Cont. p7Markazi winning at Saint-Cloud last month | Scoop Dyga

Rouget Seeks Elusive Fontainebleau cont. Henri-Alex Pantall incumbent Incampo (Fr) (Campanologist)enjoys a similar 3-year-old profile and makes his third black-typestart rebounding off a taking six-length score at Compiegne lastmonth. Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's Spotify (Fr) (Redoute'sChoice {Aus}) is the only contender with a perfect record andthe Christophe Ferland trainee steps up from a three-lengthtriumph on Chantilly's all-weather surface last month.
SHE'S A LADY Andre Fabre, currently tied with Francois Mathet on sevenwins apiece, bids to forge ahead of that luminary in Sunday's G3Prix de la Grotte at Chantilly. His in-form team relies on LadyFrankel (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a half-sister to leading sire Lope deVega (Ire) (Shamardal), who attained >TDN Rising Stardom'when making a perfect start going one mile at Saint-Cloud fourweeks ago. Jean-Claude Rouget won this event with subsequentG1 Coronation S. second Lesstalk in Paris (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire})in 2014 and with G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix Rothschildvictress Qemah (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) last year, and hispresence looms large once more. He is represented by KatsumiYoshida's recently acquired Toulifaut (Ire) (Frankel {GB}).Untried this term, she goes postward off a win in the Sept. 8 G3Prix d'Aumale and a nightmare eighth in the Oct. 2 G1 PrixMarcel Boussac, both over today's course and distance. LikeLady Frankel, Pia Brandt trainee Beauty of Love (GB) (ElusiveCity) is unbeaten after one attempt and makes her sophomorereturn coming back from a slow-starting win over seven furlongsat Saint-Cloud in September. Flaxman Stables' Senga (Blame), adescendant of blue hen Coup de Folie (Halo), impressed whengraduating by two lengths at Saint-Cloud in September and alsoendured trouble when a never-nearer fourth in the G1 PrixMarcel Boussac in her latest start. She lines up for Pascal Bary, whose sole success in this contest was provided by the brilliantDivine Proportions (Kingmambo) in 2005.
FABRE MOB-HANDED FOR NOAILLES ASSAULT Sunday's G3 Prix Noailles has failed to provide a winner of the
G1 Prix du Jockey Club since Anabaa Blue (GB) (Anabaa) did the
double in 2001 and its demotion from Group 2 status in 2014
was unsurprising. Andre Fabre is the contest's winningmost
trainer with a haul of ten, although just three have come this
century, and he bids to enhance that record with a trio of
representatives in this year's renewal at Chantilly. Soleil Marin
(Ire) (Kendargent {Fr}) was acquired by Godolphin after his
impressive win in last month's Listed Prix Francois Mathet at
Saint-Cloud, where the reopposing Amazing (Fr) (Kentucky
Dynamite) finished 3 1/2 lengths adrift in third, and bids to make
it five wins on the trot in this 10 1/2-furlong test. He is joined by
stablemates Akihiro (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Galipad (GB)
(Galileo {Ire}), who both race in the silks of Alain and Gerard
Wertheimer. The hitherto undefeated Akihiro had G1 Prix
Jean-Luc Lagardere hero National Defense (GB) (Invincible Spirit
{Ire}) in arrears when annexing September's G3 Prix des Chenes
going one mile at this track in his latest start, while Galipad goes
to post off a four-length tally at Argentan earlier this month.

Danzig was both top class and durable on the race track when
trained by Andreas Schutz. She won 12 races from 21 starts
including back to back runnings of the G1 Premio Roma in Italy
in 1999 and 2000. She rose to prominence as a 3-year-old in

and the G2 Preis Der Diana before stepping up for her first of
three Group 1 wins in the G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Bayerisches

Elle Danzig cont. Her busy racing schedule proved no hindrance to her career asa broodmare; she missed only one year when barren in 2014and during the her time at stud she produced eleven winnerswith seven either winning or placing in stakes races. BAKER BUYS ROBINS FARM Trainer George Baker has purchased Robins Farm from SheikhFahad Al Thani and will relocate from Manton to the purposebuilt former base of Olly Stevens, which is based in Surrey onthe outskirts of London. "It's a massive opportunity,@ Baker toldThe Racing Post. AWe've been lucky enough to train in two ofthe most reputable facilities in Whitsbury and Manton, but thechance to own our own yard was too good to miss." Baker is notafraid of traveling his horses abroad to win races and one of hismain flag-bearers in recent season has been Belgian Bill (GB)Exceed And Excel {Aus}) who won a local Group 2 at Veliefendiin Turkey last year. Robins Farm has already been used toprepare a Royal Ascot winner in 2013 Listed Windsor Castle S.winner Extortionist (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) and Baker will behoping to continue in the same theme."We're very lucky to havesecured it. It's only 45 minutes away from London, which is goodfor our owners and puts us close to lots of London-based tracks. It's the chance of a lifetime," he added. In addition to several all-weather gallops, walkers and turnout paddocks, Robins Hill hasstabling for 55 horses, a number Baker intends to add to."There's planning permission for plenty more so that will be oneof the first things we do."

Zhukova, who broke her stakes duck in Galway=s 2015 Oyster

G3 Blue Wind S. and G3 Enterprise S., but was a below-par
seventh when fitted with cheekpieces in the Oct. 15 G1 British
Champions Fillies & Mares S. at Ascot last time. Opening this
campaign with just a noseband applied here, she raced in third
for much of the contest and comfortably asserted for one flick of

Stallion Career Beckons For Tivaci cont.
However her challenge soon petered out as Le Romain dug
deep in front but Tivaci had hit top gear and was finishing with a
flourish down the centre of the track. It was only in the last 50m
that Tivaci got to the front but he won going away to deny Le
Romain a fourth Group 1 by a neck with Jungle Edge sticking on
gamely a length and a quarter back in third. "It was a great
effort, he defied the pattern today," said Damien Oliver. "I was a
little concerned. Mike and I discussed tactics before the race but
we thought we=d done so much work to get him to settle, I was
reluctant to change his pattern because if he does go too free
early he doesn't finish off as good. I had to take some medicine
early and he rewarded us late in the race.@ Despite having
ridden over 100 Group 1 winners Oliver has not been inundated
with top level rides in recent months. "It has been difficult lately,
there are a lot of good jockeys around. I am getting in to the
twilight of my career now, you expect the next generation
coming through, just shows if you have the horse, you can still
match it with them in the big races,@ he added.

Tivaci certainly wasn=t winning an elite event out of turn. He
required the intervention of stewards to make his stakes
breakthrough when awarded the G3 C.S. Hayes S. at Flemington
at the expense of first past the post Palentino (Aus) (Teofilo
{Ire}) in Feb. 2016. Since then he has plied his trade with
distinction adding a Group 3 at Sunshine Coast last July and the
Listed Kensington S. over five furlongs at Flemington Jan. 28
when beating Winx=s half-brother El Divino (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}).
He has also shown a Group 1 could be within reach when third
in the G1 Toorak H. at Caulfield last October and also when
occupying the same slot in the G1 Cantala S. at Flemington
behind Le Romain later that month. While his penultimate
fourth in the G1 T.J Smith S. also suggested he was a player at
the top level. AI was really confident with him during the week,@
said Mike Moroney after the race. AI stayed back to watch him
gallop on Wednesday on the course proper and he galloped
terrific. He just was glowing here today and very relaxed for him
too. I said to Ollie he was as relaxed as I=ve seen him.@ A stallion
career now beckons for Tivaci with his immediate racing future
still up in the air. AHe=s been placed in a lot of Group 1s so
deserved to get one here today and it=s very timely as he=s going
to stud at Waikato Stud,@ Moroney explained. AWe=ll have a
meeting now as to whether we race on or whether he goes now.
He=s the fastest son of High Chaparral probably in the world, I
would think. He=s by a great sire and proving to be a sire of sires
too so he=s going to a great home.
Pedigree notes... Tivaci, a A$250,000 yearling, is the first of three foals from the
winning Fastnet Rock (Aus) mare Breccia (NZ). He was followed
in 2014 by a colt by Dalakhani (Ire) and a colt by Dundeel (NZ) in
2015. His grandam Luna Tudor (Aus) (Military Plume {NZ}) was a
fine race-mare winning the G2 Perth Cup but she eclipsed that
achievement as a broodmare, producing G1 Toorak H. winner
Allez Wonder(Aus) (Redoute=s Choice {Aus}) and GSW Pretty
Pins (NZ) (Pins {NZ}).
THE MISSION DOMINATES CHAMPAGNE Twenty three-year-old jockey Damian Lane continued his
ascension into the upper echelons as he guided The Mission
(Aus) (Choisir {Aus}) to a dominant success in the G1 Moet &
Chandon Champagne S. at Randwick. The Mission finished only
sixth last time to race favourite Invader (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) in
the G1 Inglis Sires= two weeks ago but turned around the form in
no uncertain fashion under an enterprising ride from Lane.
Despite not being quickest from the gates Lane rushed The
Mission straight into the lead and built up an advantage of six
lengths at halfway. He then got a nice breather into the colt,
allowing the pack to close to within three lengths nearing the
turn. Sweeping in, Lane kicked again and the Paul Perry trained
juvenile responded gamely taking another length out of the field
as Invader went in pursuit. The favourite could make little
impression however and The Mission hit the line strongly two
and a quarter lengths clear of Invader with Whispered Secret
(Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}) a neck behind in third. AThat felt
great, he is a very tricky horse to ride and having ridden him in
the Sires, I really learnt a lot from him and it was great to get the
win today," Lane said. AHe goes very keen but he doesn=t jump
very well, so in the Sires I got crossed quick, I run up backsides
and I had to take off around them and it was just ugly but the
way he stayed on I thought this horse has great stamina and if
he can get in his rhythm out in front like he did today, I don=t
think they will run him down," he added.

For Paul Perry there was an added dimension to the victory
for The Mission as he also trained the colt=s sire Choisir (Aus)
(Danehill Dancer {Ire}) to land a famous Royal Ascot double in
2003. AHe showed something all the way through but he=s
probably been his own worst enemy. His last start in the Sires he
was a bit slow out, got held up and nothing went his way but
when he jumped well today and he can flow along I think he=s
pretty smart," Perry said after the race. The Mission has been
something of a slow burner. He took six runs to get his head in
front but when he did it was the G3 Schweppervesence H. at
Rosehill Mar. 25 that gave him his racecourse break through.
That run was followed by the abovementioned sixth place in the
G1 Inglis Sires= at Randwick Apr. 1. Perry is now keen to back off
The Mission for a while to focus on spring targets. AHe=ll go the
paddock now and hopefully come back for the Caulfield
Guineas. He can certainly race on the speed so it should suit.@
Pedigree notes... A 12th Group 1 winner for Coolmore stallion Choisir, The
Mission is out of My Amelia (Aus) (Redoute=s Choice {Aus}) who
was precocious enough to win as a 2-year-old and she has
passed that precocity on to her progeny. The Mission is one of
three winners from three runners and five foals for the mare
who has also produced the MGSP Smart Amelia (Aus) (Smart
Missile {Aus}). Unfortunately she foaled a full sister to The
Mission in 2015 but that foal died last year. My Amelia is out of
the top class runner Carry On Cutie (Aus) (More Than Ready)
who won the G1 Salinger Champage S. but her breeding exploits
have yet to match those on the track with no stakes performers
as yet from her three winners and eight foals.
