A Message From Terry Barcroft, President and CEO

As you are aware, WESLEY WOODS is introducing the concept of cascading goals throughout the organization. Many high performing organizations use this practice to achieve critical strategic endeavors

or mission focused work. If you have read the book, Good to Great, you will recognize the concept used by some of the company’s featured in the book. What are cascading goals? Cascading goals is the process of communicating mission-centric goals throughout all levels of the organization to ensure alignment between the organization’s strategy and individual employees’ activities and goals.

You might ask, why are we doing it? We believe that personal (growth) development is lifelong. We should not only believe it for ourselves but for WESLEY WOODS. Our mission dictates that we effectively and consis-tently deliver services to communities that help people age with grace. In order to measure our effectiveness at delivering on that promise, we are setting goals that are measureable and align with the mission.

But why do I have specific goals and why are they measurable? It is important to create measurable goals in order to determine when the goal has been achieved. How else will we know we met it, right?

Your supervisor will be able to show you the goals and competencies for your particular position. Be sure to review these in advance of your performance review in July, 2019.

Thank you for your passion and commitment to our mission to help people age with grace! We will be able to see and celebrate the outcomes of that commitment year after year!

Do you have friends or family members looking for a job? Want to make a little extra cash? WESLEY WOODS now has an Employee Referral Program. Meet the O. Wayne Rollins Director of Pastoral Care—Rev. Karen Kagiyama

Bad attitudes Will Drain Your Energy

Employees that hold a “bad attitude” can reduce performance for everyone. They leave co-workers feeling fatigued and exhausted.

Simple suggestions to immunize yourself against “bad attitudes”:n Limit interactions with de-energizers.n Make sure your own work is meaningful and has purpose. In any job

you can think about the places where you make a difference in the lives of co-workers and residents.

n Increase the time you spend with people who make you feel good. If you have a meeting with a de-energizer, try to make time for a more positive co-worker or friends the same day.

Try to spend less time dealing with negative interactions and create an emphasis on the positives in your life. People with “bad attitudes” will only drain your limited energy. Spending time with people that only want to “vent” will not increase your positive energy and will only leave you feeling tired.
