Employee Newsletter October 2017 Diana Trujillo, Property and Records Clerk: I have worked at Mille Lacs County for two months. I enjoy the diverse opportunities that working in ASO provides. One of my favorite aspects of my position is working on the Mille Lacs County website. It always presents new and exciting challenges! However, my favorite aspect of working at MLC is working with my ASO team. I was born and raised in beautiful Colorado. I went to college in Southern Colorado and moved to Minnesota in 2011. Most of my family still lives in Colorado, including my dad, Tom, sister, Tommilyn, and brother, John. My parents were married for 47 years, until my mom passed away this past March. I currently live in Foreston with my fiancée, Justin, and our four kids, Travis (17), Victoria (15), Emily (14), and Corey (9). Our home is always full of adventure! My favorite hobbies include bow-fishing and playing volleyball with my daughters. I have also recently taken up kickboxing and am really enjoying it! If I could go on any vacation, it would certainly be a long trip to the Maldives. Who wouldnt enjoy sleeping in a hut over the ocean, watching the marine life swim underneath you? This month’s spotlight features

one of our newest employees in ASO.

Mille Lacs County Community and Veterans Services recently hosted its newest event, the Child Foster Care Appreciation and Recruitment Picnic. Held at Milaca’s Rec Park on a beautiful summer evening, this event created a wonderful opportunity for CVS staff to meet all of our current providers. It also opened doors for foster care parents to connect with one another. Eighty-five foster parents, kids, and CVS staff took part in the event! This picnic provided a fun atmosphere for the kiddos, while also uniting foster parents with the ability to speak with one another.

CVS Hosts Foster Care Appreciation & Recruitment Picnic

“As the foster care licensor, I was so happy to see all of the connections

among the foster families being made. I am also very grateful to the child unit

staff and all others involved for taking the time out of their busy schedules to

help make this picnic a huge success!” - Jenn Fronk

Community and Veteran Services provided a full meal, games, crafts for the kids, as well as door prizes and access to the splash pad. Months later, there are still kids talking about how much they enjoyed this event! Foster parents have expressed gratitude for the ability to sit and talk with other foster parents and are hopeful that this event becomes an annual one. Yet another successful event created by the CVS team!

As the days begin to shorten and the air begins to cool, hop in the car for a tour of Minnesota’s stunning autumn color. Every corner of the state offers a beautiful view of our brilliant fall display and plenty to do along the way. Even better, many of the best views in the state are located close to home! Weather is critical in determining the range of colors displayed each fall. As we all know too well, Minnesota has a tendency to be a little unpredictable. However, the Minnesota DNR is expecting a “near-perfect” fall color season this year. With adequate rain and plenty of summer sunshine, fall colors should be at their finest this season! Mille Lacs Kathio State Park offers its annual Trail Walk: Autumn in the Forest event to enjoy the fall colors. This event also includes a discussion on autumn changes happening in the hardwood forest, pine stands, swamps, and bogs of Mille Lacs Kathio State Park. Rum River State Forest borders Kathio State Park and offers quite the view! With 40,605 acres, you are sure to see a variety of fall colors at this state forest! Father Hennepin State Park is an excellent stop on the southeast side of Lake Mille Lacs. Hike along the lake on 4.5 miles of trails, surrounded by beautiful Ash, Maple, and Basswood trees. While you’re at it, check out Minnesota’s second largest lake, Lake Mille Lacs! A stunning view with ornate fall colors and plenty of variety, Lake Mille Lacs is a great stop for viewing everything fall has to offer. Stop by Vista Road for a great view. Wooded on both sides, this road showcases fall color at its best!

Cyber security involves protecting important information by preventing, detecting, and responding to attacks appropriately. There are many risks; however, some are more serious than others. Among these dangers are viruses erasing your entire sys-tem, someone breaking into your system and altering files, someone using your computer to attack others, or someone stealing private information while using it to their own advantage. Unfortunately, there is not a 100% guarantee that even with the best precautions some of these things won't happen to you, but there are steps you can take to minimize the chances.

The 3rd Annual Park Extravaganza

The 3rd Annual Park Extravaganza was held on Wednesday, September 13th at

Recreation Park in Milaca. Captain Trisha Ellington lead the Red Team to victory

in a well-matched game of kickball. However, Captain Edward Yost’s Blue Team

offered a hard-to-beat competitive edge. Kickball was followed by a potluck

dinner and the Bean Bag Toss Tourney. Diane Overby and Trisha Ellington

out-threw every other team! Each won a fantastic $10 Subway gift card.

If you care to admire the coveted Kickball Trophy, it may be viewed on the desk

of Trisha Ellington in Community and Veteran Services. This year’s Annual Park

Extravaganza proved to be yet another success story for the

Wellness Committee!
