e primary duties of the Ratings/MOS’s that can be considered for Energy Technician positions include: • Test, troubleshoot, and repair test sets and diagnostic equipment • Repair or replace instruments, such as tachometers, temperature gauges, and altimeters • Diagnose malfunctions in electrical and electronic components • Maintain electrical/electronic elements of assemblies nickel-cadmium batteries • Perform preventive maintenance on aviation support equipment • Use and maintain common/special tools • Maintain facilities for storage of flammable and hazardous materials • Service, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair gasoline and diesel engine systems, transmission systems, hydraulic, hydrostatic, and pneumatic systems, electrical systems, gas turbine compressor units, electrical and hydraulic power generating equipment, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems • Install and maintain plumbing, heating, steam, compressed air, fuel storage, and distribution systems, including water treatment and distribution systems, and air conditioning and refrigeration equipment Job training for these positions includes 7 to 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 7 to 26 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (depending on the MOS) with on- the-job instructions. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field, including practice in maintaining electrical power systems. e American Council on Education recommends that semester hour credits be awarded in the vocational certificate or lower-division bachelor’s/associate’s degree categories for automobile electricity, basic electricity, diesel engines, hydraulic brakes and basic shop practices, machine technology, machine shop mathematics, blueprint reading, and metric system of measurement courses taken in the Navy ratings.
