The Problem
Become the engineering hero Minecraft has been searching for! Blackshadow is a rogue group of monsters and creatures that are only able to survive in darkness. There have been rumors that the Blackshadow civilization wants to rid the world of the sun so that they can freely roam the world at all times of the day and wreak havoc on the World of Minecraftia. The Prophecy
Amaterasu, named after the sun goddess, is the stronghold for all natural energy in the World of Minecraftia. Amaterasu's intelligence is comprised of life sources including the sun, land, and water. If Blackshadow were able to get a hand on this intelligence, they could throw off the balance of energy in the World of Minecraftia and wreak havoc on its nobel citizens.

Fortress Specs: Elevator - Hiding the intelligence deep underground or high above land will decrease the chances of Blackshadow reaching the intelligence
Safe - You must build a safe that stores and protects the intelligence from Blackshadow
Item Sorter - You must build an item sorter inside the safe to keep the intelligence of Amaterasu organized and easily accessible

The ProblemDevelop a Minecraft-based Build-It-Yourself Mission that :
1. Engages kids ages 8-13+2. Encourages viral promotion of the activity by the
players/builders3. Provides added value to Minecraft platform
that p/b and their parents will crave and pay for4. Is scalable – can accommodate many simultaneous
users/webcasts/workshops5. Incorporates key BIY principles (lab books, modular
building, team building, presentation)6. Is evolutionary – leads to follow-on Missions and
storylines7. Is linkable to other BIY offerings
A Solution
Create a limited-access Minecraft platform and storyline that encourages the development of advanced Minecraft building skills, while including the other inviting features of Minecraft (exploration, resource gathering, crafting, defense and combat) that will attract and engage BIY’s target member profile.
A Potential ApproachThe Charge of the Amaterasi
A decree has gone out from Amaterasu, The Citadel of Light, calling on the denizens of Minecraftia* to nominate and send forth champions, scholars and builders for a mission of grave importance.
These chosen few will be commissioned as apprentices to the Amaterasi – Masters of Light, Stewards of Wisdom and Defenders of Virtue. They will be mentored in the mystic tools and techniques of these masters and charged with a Mission aimed at extending the reach of the Wisdom of Amaterasu and defending The Citadel, and the citizens under its protection, from the forces of darkness.
The MissionA new breed of evil, called Blackshadow, is emerging to cover the World of Minecraftia in complete darkness! Its target is Amaterasu, The Citadel of Light, whose Masters protect the advanced technology and intelligence that includes the capabilities to extinguish the sun that Blackshadow covets.
Teams of apprentices will be trained to join the Amaterasi and set forth to design, establish and build high-tech outpost fortresses to provide a perimeter of defense against Blackshadow and help develop and expand the technological brilliance that defines Amaterasu.

The Scenario
• Amaterasu could be envisioned as an evolutionary, ever-expanding citadel/campus/community – a combination fortress, university*, laboratory, museum, military academy, laboratory, recreation center, capital* modeling its layout after the Cornell campus might be an interesting twist!
• The initial Missions could be limited to creating the outposts. Limited access to the “wonders of Amaterasu” could be included to showcase some of the advanced building designs and techniques we will be teaching.
The Scenario
• Follow-on Missions can also be outpost-based or directed at the on-going development of Amaterasu – e.g. building and populating museums with Minecraft artwork, creating new Redstone machines, etc.
• This approach allows the background development of Amaterasu and expedites the start of a “prototype” Webcast Mission

The ultimate goal: infiltrate Amaterasu, the Citadel of Light, and steal the Octavo Technicus – the precious storehouse of wisdom that includes the secret of how to extinguish the sun.

They seek Apprentices to design, build and defend distant fortresses that can extend the reach of Amaterasu and protect its frontier.

Additional Mission Tasks Some additional Mission tasks we might consider:
•Outpost namesTeams can be charged with naming their frontier bastion/community to introduce builders to team decision-making techniques
•Bastion sigilsTeams can be charged with creating a sigil or coat of arms and flags/banners for their bastions and including them in the design and construction
•Amaterasi and character avatarsDefine a hierarchy of Amaterasi roles – e.g. wizard, scholar, docent, guide, architect, engineer, knight, etc. – as well as outpost and Darkshadow characters and charge builders with creating avatars, skins, etc.
•Amaterasu developmentTop builders (measured by skills, lab books, presentations) might qualify for elite Missions involving the building and expansion of Amaterasu and its components.
