EMR Implementation
Allscripts who merged with Eclipsys in September, 2010, is being implemented as the new HMC electronic medical record (EMR). Allscripts was previously known for long term care and physician office applications. Eclipsys has been in the acute care arena for many years.
Eclipsys continues to have the highest physician satisfaction for computerized physician order entry (CPOE), and the most physicians using CPOE, according to CPOE digest 2009: meaningful use and physician adoption.
Ta Van Nguyen, M.D., no longer has a beeper, effective
01/09/11. Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mon – Thu, call

CMS Launches First Phase of Physician Compare Website
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
last week released Physician Compare, an online
tool providing information on physicians and other
health professionals who treat Medicare patients.
Required by the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act, the tool currently serves as a provider
directory and indicates whether physicians and
other eligible providers report data to CMS through
the voluntary Physician Quality Reporting System.
By 2013, the ACA requires the website to include
information on the quality of care provided by the
listed professionals.

Blanket Medication Orders: “Continue Current
Medications,” “Resume Home Medications,” etc. are not
allowed per CMS CoP §482.25 and HMC Administrative
Policy 7070-05. The practice of using blanket medication
orders contributes to the discharge of patients with incorrect
medication lists resulting in less than optimal or dangerous
medication treatment. It has also negatively impacted the
collection of CMS Heart Failure quality measure rates for
discharge medications.

Hendrick HouseCalls would like to inform physicians that they must date signatures on all Medicare home health certifications and recertifications. Palmetto GBA recently received clarification from CMS that physicians must sign and date home health plans of care, verbal orders and certifications. This changes Palmetto GBA's long standing policy of accepting a date stamp or facsimile date as proof of timeliness in lieu of a physician dating his/her signature. This change is effective for all documents signed on or after January 1, 2011. If you have questions, please contact Hendrick HouseCalls at 670-2490.
