Hygiene is a key issue which has been rapidly gaining in promi-nence over the past few years and is now more important than ever.The large number of patients treated on a daily basis, as well as the nature of a doctor’s job per se, demand a strict and consistent hygiene regimen. The doctor’s responsibility vis-a-vis his staff, his patients, and himself requires the use of highly efficient cleaning agents and disinfectants.
EN 1717: protection of drinking water against contamination
In the larger context of hygiene
measures at ENT workstations, compliance with applicable drin-king water regulations is an issue of particular importance (DVGW, German association for gas and water, 2001). Firstly, it must be en-sured that the water feed system includes an adequate “free fall dis-tance“ (in terms of EN 1717).
Secondly, all water-bearing sys-tems must be protected against limescale and microbial contami-nation.
Hygiene measures for protection of patients
The decision as to what disinfec-tants and cleaning agents are
most appropriate for a specific purpose should be based on ca-reful consideration of individual requirements for efficacy, compa-tibility with materials used, active substance classification, recom-mended standard concentrations, and exposure times.The new ATMOS hygiene products meet all applicable hygiene requi-rements and guidelines. State-of-theart ingredients guarantee a maximum of safety and protection against infection. The CE mark and VAH listing provide further evidence of the high standard of quality.

With irrigation and stimulation devices (Hygro-therm/Variotherm) connected directly to the public water supply system, the integrated “free fall distance“ of ATMOS Aqua clean provides the legally required separation of treatment units from the public drinking water supply in terms of DVGW. In addition, the tubing system of the unit is protected against limescale and microbial contamination by
ATMOS Green & Clean WK.

The water separation required by the DVGW is en-sured by the free fall distance integrated in ATMOS Aqua clean. Thus, the system is in compliance with EN 1717.

Decontamination
In addition to water separation, ATMOS Aqua clean enables cleaning and decontamination of mains water and all water-bearing tubing systems by means of the ATMOS Green & Clean WK disinfectant, which has been developed specifically for this purpose.
The decontamination agent ATMOS Green & Clean WK, a concentra-te based on hydrogen peroxide, is very well suited for continuous reduction of microbial loads in mains water. It stands out by its opti-mum disinfectant properties and high material compatibility.
The use of ATMOS Aqua clean ensures compliance with the required protection levels in the best way possible, as it prevents any new biofilm buildup by continuously adding a disinfectant concentrate based on hydrogen peroxide.

Protection against limescaleWherever water is exposed to alkaline substances, where it is heated, evaporated or agitated, the lime dissolved in the water can precipitate in crystals, which subsequently form deposits on the interior walls of water-bea-ring pipeline or tubing systems. Thus, sooner or later, the water system will be clogged up.
In order to ensure adequate protection of ENT units against limescale deposits, the mains water must be processed on a continuous basis. ATMOS Green & Clean WK, which has been specifically developed for this purpose, contains a complexing agent which binds lime and thus effectively prevents deposits in the system. The effectiveness of

The ATMOS C 31 is a complete ENT treatment unit from the product range of ATMOS MedizinTechnik. It is the perfect solution for an optimum space-sa-ving design of your workstation, with all essential application modules available at your fingertips.
A particularly important feature with regard toworkplace hygiene is the integrated water supply, which makes you completely independent of access to the public water supply system for ear irrigationprocedures.
The water to be used for ear irrigation is fed via a heatable stainless steel tank (1), which is refilled at regular intervals.This provides some essential benefits with regard to hygiene: The tank is easy to clean; long residence times of the water are prevented. No extra water separation system has to be connected to ensure compliance with EN 1717.

ATMOS compressed air ear irrigation module
The compressed air ear irrigation module is the op-timum hygiene solution when ear irrigation is used only occasionally or at more or less infrequent in-tervals.The ATMOS compressed air ear irrigation module makes you completely independent of any water supply system, and the application by use of com-pressed air ensures a maximum of safety and hy-giene. The module consists of an irrigation bottle, which is attached to the compressed air handle in a similar fashion as for application of medications. By means of a heating module integrated in the treat-ment unit, the irrigation liquid in the bottle is hea-ted up to an adequate temperature for irrigation. All components of the unit are fully autoclavable. The irrigation bottle can also be filled with distilled water.

An adequate modality for disinfection and cleaning of sensitive surfaces must have a variety of specific properties:in addition to an intensive cleaning effect, efficient disinfection is also of particular importance, whilethe material surfaces must not be damaged in the process. Furthermore, the disinfection procedure must be quick and easy to perform, as usually no allowances can be made for long exposure times. Easy application of ATMOS Green & Clean MK Just add ATMOS Green & Clean SK (750 ml) to the dispenser bucket - ready!The H1N1 problemIn the more recent past, cases of infection with H1N1 (swine influ-enza) have been an issue of particular importance, which was taken as an occasion for testing the efficacy of Green & Clean SK against H1N1. According to two expert opinions obtained (vaccinia virus expertise dated 14 April 2009, and BVDV expertise dated 20 April 2009), disinfection by use of Green & Clean SK causes a titre reduc-tion of four log10 levels, equivalent to an effective reduction of 99.99 %. Consequently, the product can be claimed to be “specifically vi-rucidal”, i.e. it is effective against all enveloped viruses. This includes the so-called blood-borne viruses, such as HIV, HCV and HBV, as well as other enveloped viruses, e.g. the herpes simplex virus or influenza viruses (including H1N1).

Dieser Hygieneplan wurde auf Grundlage des MPG, der MPBetreibV, §18 IfSG
und den Empfehlungen des Robert Koch-Institutes erstellt.
Die Festlegung der erforderlichen Aufbereitungsschritte erfolgte auf Grundlage
der Empfehlung: „Anforderungen an die Aufbereitung von Medizinprodukten“,
des Robert Koch-Institutes. Es wurde eine Einstufung der Medizinprodukte in
Risikogruppen unkritisch, semikritisch und kritisch durchgeführt. Die in diesem
Hygieneplan angegebenen Aufbereitungsschritte müssen durchgeführt werden.
Die Durchführung zusätzlicher Aufbereitungsschritte obliegt dem Betreiber.
Die in diesem Hygieneplan empfohlenen Desinfektionsmittel, sind gelistete
Desinfektionsmittel (VAH/RKI-Liste) und sind auf ihre Materialverträglichkeit hin
für den ATMOS S 61 Servant getestet. Für Schäden an den Materialien, beim
Einsatz anderer, nicht empfohlener Desinfektionsmittel oder falschen Konzent-
rationen, übernimmt ATMOS MedizinTechnik keine Garantie.
Patienten mit Verdacht auf oder klinischer Erkrankung an einer übertragbaren
spongiformen Enzephalopathie (CJK, vCJK usw.) sind in Einrichtungen zu
behandeln, die über geeignete Möglichkeiten der Infektionsprävention verfügen.
Die Aufbereitung der wieder zu verwendenden Instrumente und Materialien darf
nur in Einrichtungen mit extern zertifi ziertem QM-Management nach DIN EN
ISO 13485 durchgeführt werden.
Das MPG, IfSG, die RKI-Richtlinien, BGR 250, TRBA 250 müssen immer be-
rücksichtigt werden.

Wischreinigung und -desinfektion: Alle Flächen sind mit einem mit Desinfektionsmittel
angefeuchteten, sauberen (Einmal-)Tuch abzuwischen, gleichmäßig benetzen, nicht
nachtrocknen.
1) Dampfsterilisation bei 134°C, 20 Minuten, Druck 2,2 bar,
mindestens 75 Wiederaufbereitungszyklen möglich;
Soweit in der Gebrauchsanweisung nicht anders erwähnt sind alle Elektroden
mindestens 75 mal autoklavierbar.
2) Dampfsterilisation bei 134°C, 20 Minuten, Druck 2,2 bar,
mindestens 150 Wiederaufbereitungszyklen möglich.
