HOG 86 – the HeavyDuty encoder with reserve capacity.Harsh ambient conditions like in steel plants, at gantry cranes or vertical lift bridges demand the most of the deployed encoders.For reliable long-term operation they must provide the necessary high reserve potential. The new encoder platform HOG 86 byBaumer Hübner, previously Hübner Berlin, will meet even the

highest demands. With 50 years of expertise gained at the forefront of Heavy Duty technology, Baumer presents unrivalled resilient products with outstanding fl exibility and design benefi ts which excel with versatile installation capabilities.

Extremely robust.Failsafe in any environmentThe solid, extremely sturdy housing with minimum 10 mm wall thickness is a prerequisite design benefi t in reliable encoder opera-tion. Special anti-corrosion coating ensures seawater resistance in compliance with C4 protection. Additional encapsulation will keep the electronics safe against dirt, soiling and humidity even while the connection cover is opened for installation.

Protected against bearing damageInductive shaft currents up to 2.5 kV are safely compensated by insulated bearings or hybrid bearings to prevent the encoder from damage. Optional longlife hybrid bearings ensure up to 100 000 hours service life.

Safe at extreme temperaturesThe encoder reliably endures temperatures from -40 to +100 °C in long-term operation.

Capable of high shaft loadsThe proven, large high-end ball bearings are optimally spaced. They allow for high radial and axial shaft loads and thus provide substantial reserve capacities for ultimate longevity.

Defying any environmentSpecialised housing encapsulation and shaft seals enable long-term IP 66 protection and will reliably prevent the encoder from damage caused by penetration of dust, dirt or liquids.

Easy to install.Ultimate mounting fl exibilityThe torque support can be directly attached using the four moun-ting threads at front and rear or alternatively at 12 different angles by aid of a support plate.

Safe and precise.Quick installation, less downtimeThe optional Enhanced Monitoring System (EMS) monitors vital encoder functionalities throughout the entire speed range, eases error tracing and thus will signifi cantly reduce expensive downtime. The multicolor LED provided at the encoder signals proper encoder supply and output driver operation as well as signal integrity. The encoder activity status is reported by the error output. The EMS monitoring functionality will signal connection errors right away during installation for eased and quick commissioning.

Perfect signal qualityHigh-performance, resilient output drivers ensure top signal quality over 500 m (TTL) respectively 300 m (HTL) cable routing. With fi ber-optic interface the encoder will even master reliable signal transmission within a distance of 2 km in environments with high ambient interference. The confi guration with fi ber-optic interface is also available with redundant sensing.

Proven sensing techniqueThe resilient sensing method by OptoASIC is immune against inter-ference and will ensure constantly high signal quality and precise measuring results even at frequent temperature changes and in harsh environments.

Always the best connectionWhether cable outlet, robust M23 connector or HeavyDuty terminal box which is rotatable through 180° - especially in harsh environ-ments HOG 86 provides outstanding fl exibility thanks to varied connection capabilities. The terminal box is optionally available with fi ber-optic interface.

HOG 86 M – redundant signals for ultimate safety and availability.Two-channel detection of relative position or rotation speed using two independent signal outputs is the most reliable method to identify errors at machines or production facilities. HOG 86 M hosts two sensing systems which are fully independent from each other. Where required, the optional monitoring functionality EMS will control both systems and this way provide prerequisite conditions for safety-relevant solutions.
