James 5:13-18”Is any one of you in

trouble? He shouldpray. Is anyone happy?Let him sing songs ofpraise. Is any one ofyou sick? He shouldcall the elders of thechurch to pray overhim and anoint himwith oil in the name ofthe Lord. And the

prayer offered in faith will make the sick per-son well; the Lord will raise him up. If he hassinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confessyour sins to each other and pray for eachother so that you may be healed. The prayer ofa righteous man is powerful and effective.Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed

earnestly that it would not rain, and it did notrain on the land for three and a half years.Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.”

Statistics on the number of peoplewho pray in America say; an over-whelming majority of Americans

believe in prayer and believe that Godanswers prayer. 54% said they pray everyday, 29% said they pray several times a

day. There are some very important truthsabout prayer that James mentions that Iwant to point out. The first one is this,

It’s always a good time to pray. Look atwhat he says in verses 13-14. Are you introuble? You should pray. Are things goinggreat in your life? Sing songs of praise tothe Lord. He tells how a fly was lookingup at a praying mantis, “What are youdoing” said the fly. “I am praying,” saidthe mantis. “Do not be stupid, insects donot pray.” The fly told it. And at that, theMantis swooped down and grabbed the flyin its claws, and straight away the flybegan “Our Father, who art in heaven”.Sometimes we think the only time we aresupposed to pray is when we are in troubleor we need some major help. It is always agood time to pray. We can pray about any-thing and everything. As a matter of factPaul says in Ephesians 6:18, “And pray inthe Spirit on all occasions with all kinds ofprayers and requests.” So, if it’s always agood time to pray, what do you say wegive it a try right now? If you are in somekind of predicament, trouble or sorrow Iwant you to ask God to help you right now.If everything is going well for you and youhave had a blessed day I want to invite you

just to say or sing a quick song of praise tohim on the count of three. You just didwhat God wants you to do! It’s importantto understand that this is supposed to be aconsistent part of our everyday lives!

W. Graham Scroggie once said, "Praywhen you feel like it, pray when you don’tfeel like it, pray until you do feel like it."Amen! But let’s be honest. There are timesin life when we get sick. Getting sick isjust not fun at all. I know that when I havehad the flu the only thing I am concernedabout is my fever breaking and trying notto get sick. It is hard for me to concentrateon something else. That is why we shouldnever be ashamed to ask other people topray for us. In verse 14 the sick personcalled the elders of the church to come andpray for him/her. At many churches peopletake prayer very seriously. They love pray-ing for people. They do not mind at all thatyou call them or put on the guest card thatyou need some prayer. They invite you todo that. Amen! They take prayer seriously. I hope and

pray you take prayer seriously in your ownpersonal life because of the very same rea-son that is mentioned in James 5:14-15.“And the prayer offered in faith will make

the sick person well; the Lord will raisehim up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiv-en.” Amen! God not only hears, but heanswers. Our God cares about his peopleso he is going to rescue them, but the wayhe is going to rescue them is by sendingMoses to do it. Well, this isn’t what Moseshad in mind at all. He was quite happytending Jethro’s sheep. Like many of us,when God’s call came, he was not sure hewanted to hear it.

And the sorts of things he comes up withas objections to doing what God says arethe same sorts of things that often stop us.Let us have a look at them, and at the wayGod answers each of his objections.Moses has spent the last 40 years or so

working as a shepherd, and shepherdswere not particularly high on the socialladder in the Middle East at the time. Heknew what life was like in the Pharaoh’spalace and he knew very well that his cho-sen trade would not go down well when hewas presented to the King.

Hypothetically speaking, what if you were at work and an outsidevisitor strolled through, noticed you, and decided he/she didn’tlike the way you performed your job duties – then proceeded to

tell you so by calling you a name that was not your given name. Howwould you react to that situation?

A similar incident happened to Chief David Brown even though he wasnot present when profane names were hurdled at him.

Dallas Morning news reporter, Tanya Eiserer, who normally works thepolice beat, got upset when she was not able to get a one-on-one interviewwith Chief David Brown and proceeded to make ungodly commentsabout him. It is reported that she directed words at Chief Brown like“cocksucker” and “asshole.”

The Dallas Black Police Association took offense to Eiserer’s commentsand they very well should have.

What happened that day speaks volumes about Eiserer’s lack of profes-sionalism and character. This type behavior should not be tolerated by thePolice Chief or the Dallas Morning news. If no action has been takenconcerning Ms. Eiserer, the Dallas Morning news sends a strong messageto the reading public.

Reporters seem to be making their own news these days, and incorpo-rating their own feelings into how they report the news, instead of simplyreporting the news and remaining neutral. Is this a new trend? This is avery dangerous precedence.

Even though the Dallas Morning news and the Dallas Black PoliceAssociation perceives Eiserer’s actions differently, they both agree thatEiserer used the words “cocksucker” and “asshole” outside of ChiefBrown’s office after being denied what she thought was to be an exclu-sive interview. The Morning news said Eiserer used profanity out offrustration and not directly at anyone in particular. The BPA said she wasswearing toward Chief Brown, and others in the office agree.

“Ms. Eiserer’s antics are symptomatic of a pernicious spirit troublingthe soul of America,” the BPA writes in a press release. “Black leadershipin America is under disproportionate scrutiny and assault by neo-conser-vatives, state righters, and uncouth birthers. The Black Police Associationof Greater Dallas, Incorporated will not tolerate the local media aidingand abetting these assaults. The Black Police Association of GreaterDallas understands that this event is a carryover of the general disrespectfor Black leadership in the Dallas Police Department by union officials —both Anglo and those with dual consciousness.”

The BPA is calling for Eiserer to be fired. They also want “mandatoryand documented anti-racism training” for all news reporters, executivesand staff, and for Dallas’s Only Daily to hire “representative numbers” ofblack, Asian and Hispanic reporters. It also called for the firing or disci-pline of any police personnel who knew about the event and “failed to actappropriately,” and for the discipline of Glenn White, president of theDallas Police Association, “for his public statements that fueled discordwithin the ranks of the Dallas Police Department.”

Preston Gilstrap, president of the BPA, tells Unfair Park that Eiserer

“referenced the chief as an ‘asshole’ and a ‘cocksucker’ in his office com-plex with other journalists there and some of his staff.” Brown himselfhad already left the room.

Gilstrap claims Eiserer approached Brown for an exclusive story abouthis plan to put senior officers back on street patrol for two weeks everysix months. More precisely, she wanted to talk about Glenn White’s reac-tion to the plan, which White previously called “foolish” and “the stupid-est thing that [Brown] could do,” according to WFAA. White also criti-cized the department last year for providing police escorts for ChiefBrown’s son’s funeral after he shot and killed a man in Lancaster, then aresponding police officer, before dying himself in a gunfight with thecops.

There seems to be a trend going on in this country, since the election ofthe first black president, that an outright onslaught of disrespect andunprofessionalism is being hurdled at, not only President Obama, but alsoat black leaders around the country. It’s no wonder the BPA is upset andthey should not let this go. If this is let go, the door will be opened forother similar incidents.

If you only read one newspaper, you only get one opinion. Rememberthat they are other newspaper alternatives - read more African Americannewspapers to get the straight skinny on what’s happening in your com-munity.

Just HowMagnificent Is

Our God?

All the thingsGod havemade, and the

way He made them ismind-boggling. We as humans never real-ly stop and think just how magnificent ourGod really is. God made the universe issuch a way that man can never claim help-ing or altering God’s creation. God madethe universe so huge that man gets boggeddown just thinking about it. Just how bigis our God? How big is our universe? Aswe read let us visualize just how big orhow vast God’s thinking really is.

Our universe is so huge that it takes abeam of light (which travels 700 millionmiles per hour) over 100,000 years just tocover the distant length of our galaxycalled the Milky Way. now watch this –but our galaxy is only one among manybillions in the known universe, let’s usethe thickness of a business card to repre-sent the distance from the earth to the sun(93 million miles). If we used these busi-ness cards to measure the distance to thenearest star, we would need a stack ofbusiness cards 71 feet high. To cover thediameter of our Milky Way galaxy, wewould need a stack of cards 310 mileshigh. To reach the edge of the knownUniverse, we would need a stack of busi-ness cards 31 million miles high. If thesun was hollow, one million three thou-sand earths could fit inside. A star callAntares (if hollow) could hold sixty fourmillion of our suns. In the constellation

of Hercules there is a star which couldcontain 100 million of Antares. Thelargest known star, which is called theEpsilon Star, could easily swallow up sev-eral million stars the size of the one inHercules. The Epsilon Star if hollowcould hold 27 billion suns.

We are making a weak attempt to illus-trate the magnitude of our universe, whichcontains as many Stars as there are grainsof sand on all the seashores of the world.Furthermore, in Psalm 147:4 and Isa.40:26, we are told that God has both num-bered and named each star. “He calleththem all by their names”. Lift up youreyes on high, and behold who hath creat-ed these things, that bringeth out their hostby number; He calleth them all names bythe greatness of his might, for that He isstrong in power; not one faileth. Isa.40:26. But more glorious than all this isthe statement that this same omnipotentand omniscient God “ healeth the brokenin heart and buildeth up their wounds (Ps.147:3). A God, who is able to make or cre-ate such a vast world, would take time toheal our broken hearts, even after we havebeen at our worst. We serve a mighty God.And church folk, Christian’s, people ofthe household of faith have the gall to bestingy with God. As Laymen we shouldnever be stingy with God about ourmoney, our time, and our special skills. These are things, which God has alreadygiven. Laymen should never give it a sec-ond thought about material things given toGod for the upbuilding of God’s kingdomhere on earth. If the laymen of Texas planto grow or go on to Spiritual growth wehave got to get away from just Sundaymorning service, a dollar in the offering, and five dollars in tithes. We need to makeall services, witness in the marketplace, and fellowship with all brethren every-where. God showed us by His creationhow He thinks, God thinks huge, and Healso thinks small. God can afford to thinkboth ways if He wishes to do so, but weare not God and it’s hard for us to think inboth directions at the same time, so let’sthink Big.

Let us not forget to read our Bibles. MayGod bless you REAL GOOD and may Heever keep you in His loving care.

Dear Dr. Hollie,

Iam coming up on 2 yearsof being a divorcedwoman. I had a really

hard time dealing with every-thing that came with it.Basically, I was so disappoint-ed in my husband that I hadgiven up on men altogether. Iwas serious about that at thetime. However, now that considerabletime has passed, I realize how naïve Iwas being. So, now I’m ready to getback to dating, but I don’t know where tobegin. I am now in church, and I havestrong Christian beliefs. And thosebeliefs keep me from certain places. Iused to be really big on clubbing. notjust dance clubs, though, I liked stripclubs as well. As a matter of fact, I metmy husband at a strip club that he

worked at as a bouncer. So,as a Christian woman, wheredo I begin to try and meetdecent, respectable men?

Saved & Searching

Dear Saved & Searching,As a Christian, you need to

pray first and ask God tosend you the man that is for

you. As you already know, the man thatis for you will not be in those clubs.Trust and believe God can and will sendyou what you deserve and need. Lie inexpectancy. Dr. Hollie is a Pastor and practicing psy-

chotherapist in the city. For questionsand comments, please write to [email protected]. For therapy appointments, please call Dr. Hollie’s office at 214-393-2940.

Those who haveplaced their com-plete faith in

Jesus Christ for the for-giveness of sin havebegun a journey whichleads to the kingdom ofGod. Once we trulybegin this journey, weare His child and our

place with God hasbeen reserved; "Heanointed us, set Hisseal of ownership onus, and put His Spirit

in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what isto come" (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

Every step is for the purpose of drawing uscloser and conforming us to the image of Christ. And hardship is the tool which seems to bestaccomplish this goal. We all might prefer thatGod would shape us through praise and bless-ings, but we seem to respond best to hardship.

Its hardship which reminds us of our depend-ence on God when we've begun to trust in ourown abilities and understanding. It's hardshipwhich brings us back to our knees in prayerafter long seasons of silence. It's hardship whichdevelops the character of a mature believer:"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, wheneveryou face trials of many kinds, because youknow that the testing of your faith developsperseverance. Perseverance must finish itswork so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (James 1:2-4). As difficult as this truth may be to accept and

understand, part of God's plan is for us toexperience some hardship. not all hardshipcan be said to come from God, but in our lostand fallen world where we come to God filledwith pride and arrogance, hardship is often theonly way to humble our spirit and soften ourheart. Our Heavenly Father loves us enough todo whatever it takes to draw us closer to Hisside - even when this means being strengthenedby hardship.

“Wisdom fora g i n g ”Ecclesiastes 11:9-1 2 : 1 - 7 , 1 3 .Solomon once

again makes aclose observationof life and thetransition from

youth to old age. He encourages youngpeople to enjoy every minute of theiryouth, do everything you want to do.But remember that one day they mustgive an account to God for all that theydo. The scriptures must be their guidethroughout their lives. Many timesthose senior members of a church wantto deprive the youth of their youthful-ness and act like older people, but if ourchurches are to thrive and be healthychurches they must find a way to chan-nel the energy of its youth so as to ben-efit the kingdom and the future of thechurch. The lesson points out all of thethings that happen to us as we age andconcludes that To fear God and obey

his commandments, is the whole dutyof man.Our Sunday morning sermonwas delivered by Pastor L.T.Morganfrom the subject “Are you a thankfulworshipper” from Ps.100.Thanksgiving is that aspect of praisethat gives thanks to God for what Hedoes for us. Ideally, thanksgivingshould spring from a grateful heart; butit is required of all believers, regardlessof their initial attitude (1 Thess 5:18) Inevery thing give thanks: for this is thewill of God in Christ Jesus concerningyou. There is an obligation, a duty andprivilege of thanksgiving. There is notonly "the showing forth the praises ofGod with our lips, but in our hearts andlives"; this latter is the real practicaloffering and sacrifice, of which the for-mer should be the inspired utteranceand expression. Our outward worshipmust be verified and substantiated byinward truth; and this can only be doneas we serve God in spirit, principle, life, action, and thus with the whole manshow forth His praise. Be a thankfulworshipper! Blessed!

In March I went out on a limband said that the DallasMavericks would play in the

last game of the season. I said thattheir chances of winning the lastgame of the season would be bet-

ter than a chance that the Texas Rangers would had towin the last game of the previous Baseball season. That’sno longer true. The Ranger’s will play in the last gameof the baseball season. Their chance of winning shouldbe as great as that of the Mavericks, if not greater.

The Maverick’s might have been the sentimentalfavorite, but the Las Vegas odds maker did not smile onthem. If they end up having a basketball season this year, the Maverick still won’t be favorite this year either. Butwe all know they are the defending Champions.

Going into the play offs, the Ranger’s was a con-tender but was never a favorite to upset ever body’sfavorite “The Yankees or the Red Sox. “ Through aprocess of elimination, the Yankees and Red Sox are athome as well as the national league favorite

Philadelphia Philly’s Both the Yankee’s and thePhiladelphia Philly’s had heavy paroles, which provesonce again you cannot buy a championship easily.

I’m not naïve enough to think that it can’t be done.I’m saying it takes more than money. If indeed theRanger’s pull this off it would put the Metroplex in anelite class. I think there are 9 cities that have 4 majorsports franchises. If the Ranger’s win they would joinnew York, Boston, and Chicago in having won aChampionship in each or the four major sports.

The Ironic thing about this year is that there are twoother cities in contention for their four major wins. ThePhiladelphia Eagles winning a Super-Bowl would putPhiladelphia in a class like the Super-Bowl wining. TheLion’s would put Detroit in that class. If there was a racewith a position title like the Super-Bowl, the Ranger’s

are a 7game series from a possible title like that. Phillyand Detroit cannot win until football season is over.

The Ranger’s will probably be favorite to win theWorld Series, if not they should at least be even money. The Ranger’s are one if not the highest scoring team inthe American League. Their opponent, the St LouisCardinals are the one of if not the highest scoring teamsin the national League. Their pitching staffs are compa-rable. The starters could favor the Cardinals with the bullpen favor the Rangers. Home field advantage goes to theCardinals. The national league won the all-star game, thus giving the national League the home field.

The Ranger’s and the Maverick at one time had a run-ning battle on which team was the worst professionalteam in the country. You could always count on theRanger’s having big bats, no pitching, and bad defense. The Ranger’s new Management Team led by Hall ofFamer nolan Ryan, is doing a great job. Manager RonWashington has his own way of getting along with hisplayers, but he gets it done.

Rangers complete 9th ending come back to tie World Series

Remembering Donnie G Wade II

By: Bettye “Katt” WilliamsELITE nEWS STAFF WRITER

Did you watch the exciting game that put the DallasFort Worth area back on the map Monday night? How many professional teams can you add up or

say that got a chance to go to the playoffs to enter theSuper Bowl, nBA Championship or World Series? TheDallas Fort Worth area can say we know and have a pro-fessional team who has……The Texas RangersThe Texas Rangers are headed back to the World Series

for the second straight year after beating the DetroitTigers in the American League Championship Series. TheTexas Rangers may have lost the World Series in 2010 tothe San Francisco Giants but they never gave up on beingin the World Series again, so now they will be back in theplayoffs and will go to the Busch Stadium to meet the St.Louis Cardinals in Game 1 this week.Michael Young, who was .118 in the postseason before

Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, was one man to prove his quality as he went up to .250 inthe series with a 3-for-6 hitting knock. He drove in fiveruns and scored two, one from a special home run in thatgame against the Detroit Tigers. “nothing is going totake us by surprise,” Young said. “We’ve got make sureout attention is completely what happens between thelines. Experience can only be a good thing.”

David Murphy is currently on .391 in hitting and he hasslugging rate of .565 in the postseason. He has scored

four runs and drove in three runs. His On-base Percentageis at a gratifying .481.Ranger’s manager Ron Washington said Monday.

“We’ve got to rely on our scouts, rely on our sight whenwe see them, and our gut. ... That’s a great way to playbaseball.”The Rangers will open their second consecutive World

Series when they play a game in St. Louis for the firsttime. Game 1 is Wednesday night when C.J. Wilson is thescheduled Texas starter. But since winning his playoffdebut in Game 2 of the 2010 AL division series againstTampa Bay, free agent-to-be Wilson is 0-4 with a 6.42ERA his last six postseason starts. “He’s my no. 1 guy,my feelings haven’t changed,” Washington said. “Weexpect C.J. to step up and we really believe he will. ...What I expect to see out of C.J. is for him to go out thereand keep the ball for seven, eight innings and have us tojust turn it over to the bullpen late.”Washington said the Rangers will use the same four

starters in the World Series that they have these playoffs. But he only confirmed Wilson as the Game 1 starter andwouldn’t say in what order Colby Lewis, Derek Holland

and Matt Harrison would pitch after that.“Mentally, we’re better prepared. This point from last

year, we’re in a better place,” shortstop Elvis Andrussaid. Some people were not the favorites of the Texas Range’s

this year because of last year’s lost and them not winningthe World Series but they are playing for the World Series

again so as Ron Washington and the team stated“nobody’s taking anything for granted”, so why not get onthe Texas Rangers band wagon and cheer and supportthem for the next four games to win, that’s what’s impor-tant. Rangers complete 9th inning come back to tie theworld series 1-1 and they should win it in 6 after losingthe first game 3-2. I still say since the Dallas Maverickswon the nBA Championship, my prediction is that theTexas Rangers at 6 is going to win the World Series, whatdo you think? Go Rangers

Greek fraternitiesand sororitiesare about

acceptance and ritualFor many young people

college is their first taste of independenceand involves new opportunities and chal-lenges. They wish to join up so that theyhave an instant group of friends and beaccepted — it is about being a part of some-thing bigger than themselves.

At its best it fosters friendship, leadershipand community service. At its worst itencourages intelligent young men andyoung women to succumb to inhumanetreatment and allows others to justify theirbad and dangerous requests due to alcoholimpairment or tradition.

Although hazing is forbidden and their arelaws against it in many states, it still existson many college campuses under the guiseof pledging and tradition. Pledging is sup-pose to be about learning the informationnecessary to become a full member of a fra-ternity or sorority, in many cases it is anexcuse for demeaning activities that causepsychological harm, physical danger and insome cases even death. And, OnE DEATHIS TOO MAnY.

Donnie G Wade II grew up in Dallas ,Texas , he accepted Christ at an early ageand became a devoted member of Oak CliffBible Fellowship and graduated from HighSchool. He was a young man with a

dream!Donnie knew early on he wanted to be a

doctor and he worked diligently to pursuethat goal. He began his studies at Stephen F.Austin then transferred to Prairie ViewA&M to pursue a degree in biology, focusing on pre-medicine. In a collegeprogram opportunity with Senator RoyceWest he participated in an Internship at UTSouthwest Medical Center to gain hands-onexperience.

He also wanted to belong and serve thecommunity through the connection of broth-erhood. Tragically he died in a fraternitypledge hazing incident in 2009. Today hisfamily and friends have a dream. A dream toerase hazing from school campuses, toencourage academic excellence while warn-ing young people about any potential dan-gers and keeping other families from suffer-ing a similar devastating loss.

It is long past time to change the practicesof this ritual system that continues to fosterhazing. College campuses need to be com-pletely free of personal harassment, degra-dation and disrespect. Universities and stu-dent leaders on campuses and in Greekorganizations need to develop better ways tobring students together socially.

Young people need to be made aware ofthe inherent dangers and learn to say nOand walk away when they encounter anuncomfortable situation. Parents and grandparents need to talk with their children andgrand children about these positive but alsopotentially dangerous activities. Don’t wait, talk with your children today. What seems to be a trend in theMiddle Eastern countries, people have finally realized

that they no longer have to put up withthe dictator style of leadership from lead-ers who have been in power for decadesand are being removed by protestors andopposition activists. The pot is stirring inSyria and Yemen as this trend continuesto spread throughout the Middle East.

For four decades Moammar Gadhafihas ruled in Libya. Today in Libya, hewas on the run like a common fugitiveand killed by opposition forces. Manycelebrated news of the death of Gadhafiby honking their horns and with celebra-tory gunfire. Gadhafi's death puts an endto the career of the strongman who came

to power in a bloodless coup againstKing Idris in 1969.

With Moammar Gadhafi dead, will ittake years for the country's oil produc-tion to return to full capacity? Analystsbelieve it could possibly take years. It'sthought that Libya is producing about350,000 barrels of oil per day, up fromnear zero during the depths of the con-flict earlier this year. Will democraticelections be held? Who will be the newemerging leader in Libya? What time-line or control will President Obama andhis administration help enforce to helpLibya move forward?

Caution should be taken by all partiesinvolved to move very carefully with thissituation because it would be a travestyto get rid o f one dictator and have anoth-er one of the same nature to take itsplace.
