FUN FACTS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY!
Chocolate and Valentine’s Day go together like Peanut Butter and
Jelly. It’s an image that many of us are used to seeing but just
where did this tradition come from?
Richard Cadbury from Cadbury chocolates family is
responsible for the earliest box of Valentine’s Day
chocolates. In 1868, he gave chocolates to his be-
loved in a heart-shaped box. He apparently also made the boxes
more unique by using his own paintings to decorate the box lid.
There are very few things that we can say that we really love in this
world. For most of us, pets aren’t just pets, they are family.
So, it’s really not surprising to find out that come Valentine’s day
2015, pet owners in the US will be spending $703 million on their
gifts for their pets. If you think that is a lot to spend on a pet, it’s
only a fraction of what couples will be spending on
each other — USD18.9 bilion’s worth — for Valen-
tine’s Day. Reference: http://factslist.net/2013/02/10-

kindergarten – 3rd. The Encore community successfully donated 326 books for this summer reading
program.
Season of Giving – Canned Food Drive for Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This event was held in No-
vember of 2016. A total of three huge boxes of food were donated for this worthy cause to feed the
needy over the holidays by our generous residents.
Angel Tree for the Family Outreach Foundation of Arizona. Our first Angel Tree was placed in the lob-

tags were placed and taken by our residents. These tags were for Christmas gifts for needy children
and Encore was recognized for their efforts with a Certificate of Appreciation.
The Interest Group is also considering new projects for the residents of Encore as well as continuing with
current ones:
Working with the Paz de Christo program in feeding the hungry
Once again, the book drive with United Way
A senior program where we would visit these senior facilities and provide much needed conversation
with the residents
Supporting the veterans of our country
Supporting various animal shelters by providing our time and various needs designated by the shel-
ters themselves

ACTIVITIES & ENTERTAINMENT - UPCOMING ENCORE EVENTS
Dear Encore Community,
We always need the rain in the Phoenix area, but this often means an increase in weeds. To address the weeds in our com-
mon areas, Four Peaks will be treating with pre/post emergent. Homeowners should consider similar treatments as well to
inhibit the growth of weeds in their yard.
Rain can also cause erosion damage. We will be keeping an eye on locations susceptible to erosion damage and addressing
those areas in need of attention. Four Peaks will install hurricane holes in the basin in 9.1 between Chatsworth and Abbey
and in the basin along Encore Blvd., east of Tripoli in the spring. Hurricane holes help with drainage in areas where the
ground can’t absorb the water fast enough. Four Peaks will also treat the turf areas with Sulphur, which also helps break up
the ground and aid in water absorption.
At this time of year we see an increase in activity out in the community. It is great weather for walking or riding your bike
and Encore has great walking trails to enjoy. I and your fellow homeowners request that if your cute and furry four-legged
friends are along on the walk, to please leash your pet. While you are probably familiar with the demeanor of your own dog,
there are other homeowners whose pet may not be as friendly or may become scared or defensive. This could cause serious
harm to a pet or owner.
We also ask that you please pick up after your dog. We have many dog waste stations in the community and we want all
homeowners to be able to enjoy the common areas.
Enjoy the beautiful weather and the great activities in the Phoenix area. All too soon we will be experiencing triple digit
weather so let’s enjoy while we can!
Sincerely,
Michelle Haney Community Manager
