Teddy Bear Hospital visit Wednesday March 14 Students in ECC2, Room 1 and Room 3 participated in The Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) with a group of medical student volunteers from the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle. The Teddy Doctors demonstrated the entire process of a medical consultation in a fun, non- threatening environment. The visit taught children through a number of songs and games, healthy eating habits, the importance of hygiene (especially the hands) and sun smart practices.

Jo Hayes, Deputy Principal

It helps keep you up to date about things that are happening on a daily basis around the school, reminders of what’s coming up and celebrates great work.

Canteen Orders Our school canteen is run by the P&C and relies on children ordering lunches to be self-funded. Each year it is monitored to make sure a profit is being made so the service can continue. If you are considering buying your children lunch at any time, please support the canteen. All lunches meet the healthy standards suggested by WACSSO. A menu of options and prices is available at the canteen or on the school website. The canteen is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Thank you I would like to thank and acknowledge the generosity of the staff at East Narrogin Primary School. There is much that goes on in the background of a school in which the staff gives much of their time and often at their own expense to support teaching and learning. One staff member I would like to acknowledge today is Sue Burbridge, an Education Assistant who works with children with special needs. Sue recently took home the ENE Bee costume and sewed it up for us. This costume is used each Monday as a much loved part of the Positive Behaviour System used across the school. ENE Bee draws 5 winners from the ENE Bee points and those children spin a dial to win a prize. Sue is also responsible for the beautiful flowers that are regularly on display in the admin reception and these come from her garden. It’s these little things that make the East Narrogin PS a great place to work and show the dedication of the staff. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming Easter long weekend and spend it with those you love.

Helen Fiebig, Principal

Faction Swimming Carnival On Tuesday 6 March our Year 4-6 and some Year 3 students participated in swimming races and novelty events at our carnival at the Narrogin YMCA indoor pool. We were very proud of the way students actively swam for their faction and tried their best in every event. The spirit and sportsmanship shown during the day was commendable. Congratulations to Jarrah winning the shield, Wandoo for winning the Team spirit shield and all our individual champions and runner up champions. 16 records were broken at the carnival. A big thank you to our helpful, supportive staff and parent helpers who did a fantastic job to ensure the carnival was a successful event.

Interschool Swimming Carnival On Friday 16 March our interschool swimming team of 37 students represented ENPS at the Williams Pool. We placed 4

th this year in outright

shield. Mrs Hayes, Laycee and I were impressed with the student’s behaviour, positive attitudes and effort in all their events on the day. Thank you to our captains Max and Azumi for leading our team, our parent helpers who assisted with timekeeping and ribbons, our staff for their organisation and support. Congratulations to our 4 individual medal winners Alexis Edgley, Connor Wiese, Max Slawinski and Azumi Yusman; who all deserve recognition for their outstanding swimming!

Schools Tennis Classic Country Final On Friday 9 March our ENPS tennis team of Max Ballard, Aniela Turner-Reid, Amelia Corasaniti and Trevor Eastwood travelled to Perth to represent our school in the tennis final at Alexander Park in Menora. They played 7 singles and mixed doubles matches against primary schools from Meckering, Broomehill, Georgiana Molloy Busselton, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar, Hyden/Kondinin, South Bunbury and St Matthews from Narrogin. The students all had a great day playing tennis on the grass courts with South Bunbury winning the academy plate. Thank you to the parents who transported the students to this event and supported them throughout the day and Jason Marrable from Tenniswest for making this event possible for us to participate in.

Ride to School Day Pump up your tyres, it's National Ride2School Day on March on Friday, 23 March! National Ride2School Day is the perfect opportunity for our school community to think twice about grabbing the car keys and embracing a healthier start to the day by riding or walking to school. Research shows children who walk or ride to school develop better awareness of road and safety skills. On arrival at ENPS from 7.45am on Friday, students will be provided with healthy fruit in the undercover area and can participate in an obstacle course and slow bike race on the quadrangle from 8-8.20am with some prizes and Faction points to be won!

A healthy lunchbox Healthy lunches and snacks are important for keeping active kids alert and focused and providing them with the nutrition they need every day. A healthy lunchbox should include:

Fruit – at least one serve of fresh seasonal fruit. If you

don’t have fresh fruit, canned (in natural juice) is a good substitute. Dried fruit is high in sugar and should be avoided

Vegetables – vegetable sticks, salads or a mix of raw

(with dip) or grilled vegetables

Dairy – one serve of milk, yoghurt or cheese supports

optimal growth and development in children. If your child can’t tolerate dairy provide a suitable alternative.

Protein – lean meat or poultry, fish, eggs, tofu,

legumes/beans, or nuts and seeds.

Grain foods – wholegrain and high fiber varieties are

best. Water – the best drink to keep children hydrated. Quick Tip Remember, children who help plan and prepare their own lunch are more likely to eat it. Your child might like to try out this fun, ‘Interactive Lunchbox’ website: www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/hav/articles.nsf/html/index.html Recipe Link https://livelighter.com.au/Recipe/249/roasted-pumpkin-and-salad-sandwich
