What is the Endocrine System?

Hypothalamus

Thyroid Gland

Pineal Gland

HeartKidneys

Digestive System

Thymus Gland

• A control system in the body

• Maintains homeostasis

• It is the control system for many

autonomic functions

• Consists of two parts: right and left

thalamus

Hypothalamus

• The pineal gland, referred to as the

Third Eye

• It is a small pine cone shaped organ

inside your brain

• Secretes hormones

Pineal Gland

• The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland

• Sits low on the front of the neck,

below your Adam’s apple, along the

front of the windpipe.

• You cant feel it when its at its normal

size

• It help the body to produce, store, and

release thyroid hormones into blood

• It also regulates metabolism

Thyroid Gland

Thyroid Gland

•Heart

•The cardiac muscle tissue of the heart produces the hormone ANP

•ANP also reduces blood volume and pressure.

•Kidneys

•Kidneys produce the hormone EPO

•It travels to the red bone marrow where it stimulates an increased production of red blood cells.

•Digestive system

•The hormones CCK, secretin, and gastrin are all produced by the organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

•They help regulate the secretion of pancreatic juice, bile, and gastric juice in response to the presence of food in the stomach.

Heart, Kidneys, and Digestive System

Heart

Kidneys

Digestive System

• They are small glands located on top

of each kidney

• Produces hormones

• Sex hormones and cortisol

Adrenal Glands Adrenal Glands

• The thymus gland is an organ in the

upper chest

• fights infections in the body

• makes up a major part of the immune

system

Thymus SystemThymus System

1. Hypothalamus

• Hypothalamus may cause anorexia and bulimia and other eating disorders

2. Pineal Glands

• If your pineal glands aren't functioning properly you will experience headaches

3. Thyroid Gland

• If your thyroid glands aren't functioning properly it can affect every aspect of your health mostly your weight and energy level

4. Adrenal Glands

• Genetic mutations, Infections, problems in other glands

Problems in the Endocrine System

• May get chest pain and painful feeling in your chest if you are having problems with your heart

6. Kidneys

• Kidney disease often has no symptoms until it is very far along

7. Digestive System

• Common digestive problems include heartburn

8. Thymus System

• Tumors can develop in the thymus called the thymoma

Problems in the Endocrine System Cont.

• One can take care of the Endocrine

System by avoiding steroids, taking

enough rest and eating a balanced

diet..
