Forms of energy
Energy is the ability an object or body has to create changes around it.There are different types of energy:Mechanical or kinetic energy.Light energy.Sound energy.Electric energy.Thermal or heat energy.Chemical energy.Nuclear energy.
Electricity
Electricity comes from other forms of energy that exist in nature, like the kinetic energy of moving water or wind, or the chemical energy of coal.
Electricity is a very useful form of energy because we can transport it easily and transform it into other type of energy.
The most widely used sources of energy
Fuels: when they burn they turn thermal energy into chemical energy.
-Coal.-Natural gas.-Petroleum.
Water: we use the kinetic energy from reservoirs to produce electric energy.
Wind: wind farms turn the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity.
Uranium and plutonium: they are radioactive materials.
OTHER SOURCES OF ENERGY
PRODUCING ELECTRICITY
Hydroelectric power stations: they use the energy from reservoirs where water falls with great force.
Thermal power stations: they get energy by burning fuels such as coal or petroleum. The thermal energy created from their combustion heats water is converted into steam. Steam moves a turbine that generates electricity when it turns.
