    • India’s forests are able to sustainably meet only onesixth of the country’s demand for fuel wood.

    • Before we started to build cities many centuries ago, they say that 60% of the Earth was covered in Forests. Now, there is less than 10% left.

    • Every minute, forests the size of 20 football fields are cut down. • Every disappearing plant takes with it 10 to 30 other animal

or plant species dependent upon it for survival. • Causes of loss of biodiversity – increasing human population

    – increasing consumption levels – decreasing efficiency ofuse. All these lead to overexploitation and manipulation ofecosystems, which, through a chain of events, culminatesin extinction of species

There are many ways to help save theforests that are remaining. •

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. If we recycle theproducts that come from trees such aspaper, then we can use them over and overagain. There will be a lower demand forproducts made from trees.

    • Buy from companies that are environment friendly . They don't ruin our environment just tomake money .

More: Consequences of Depletion of Natural Resources • Try to eat less meat which requires grazing lands – another reason why forests are cleared. • Buy products made out of recycled materials. • Do not buy newspaper or magazines. Read them online. • Buy furniture and wood that is Certified. This means that the wood was legally cut down.
