Energy is everywhere!

You use energy to run.

Energy turns on the lights.

Energy moves sound to your ears.

Energy cooks the food you eat.

Energy makes work possible.

Energy can also change things.

There are many kinds of energy.

Light is a kind of energy.5

Open the curtains or turn on a lamp. Light fills your room. It’s light energy.

Light energy makes dark places bright. 6

Time for school. Do you hear the sound of cars?

Sound is a kind of energy that lets you hear.8

Light moves in a straight path. It goes through air. It can go through clear glass. It reflects off mirrors. But light stops when it hits your hand.

Sound energy moves the air. You hear sound when the moving air reaches your ear. What do you hear right now?

Motion is a kind of energy. It takes motion energy to play many games.

Sound travels through air, wood, steel, and water. But outer space is silent. Sound cannot travel where there is nothing to travel through.

Roll a ball. You give the ball motion energy.

The rolling ball takes the energy to the pins. Then the energy knocks the pins down.

Time for lunch. Heat energy cooks your food. Heat is a kind of energy.

When you cook, heat from the stove moves to the pot. Then the heat moves from the pot to the food.

Heat energy can make things change. It melts cheese and ice cubes.

Eat lots of healthy foods. They will give you energy. Then you can use motion energy to play with your friends.

There is a lot of energy used at home.

Light energy makes things bright.

Sound energy brings music to your ears.

Time to go home.

Electrical energy turns on the traffic lights. Electricity is a kind of energy.

Batteries store energy. Turn on a handheld game. The stored energy becomes electrical energy. It powers the game.

Motion energy makes games fun to play.

Heat energy cooks dinner and warms the room.

Electrical energy turns on the night light.

There is energy everywhere. What kinds of energy can you see?
