Biomass…photosynthesis

•Matter that was once alive

Page 5: Energy Sources Biomass Wind Hydropower Solar Geothermal Uranium (nuclear) Hydrogen Fossil Fuels –Petroleum –Natural Gas –Coal –Propane.

Biomass•Burning wood for heat•Corn ethanol for fuel•Generating electricity

Page 6: Energy Sources Biomass Wind Hydropower Solar Geothermal Uranium (nuclear) Hydrogen Fossil Fuels –Petroleum –Natural Gas –Coal –Propane.

Wind•Air particles in motion

–Caused by uneven heating of earth’s surface. • Convection winds.

Hydropower•Force of moving water

created by the water cycle

Nuclear (Uranium)

NRG in the nucleus of an uranium atom.

•Nucleus splits apart, creating heat.

Uranium (Nuclear)

Nuclear to ….electricity

Hydrogen•Used in batteries to produce electricity or burned as fuel–Get it from water, biomass or natural gas

Fossil Fuels• A million years ago, plants and/or

animals fell into swampy water or ocean bottoms. They were covered by layers of sedimentary rock.

• Due to heat and pressure they underwent chemical and physical changes. They became new substances, the fossil fuels. We burn them to release energy.
