View in your browser ENewsletter Summer 2017 #EuropeForCulture Much has happened in Europe with regard to cultural heritage since our last newsletter. On 25 March, EU leaders adopted the Rome Declaration where they “pledge to work towards a Union which preserves our cultural heritage and promotes cultural diversity”. Europa Nostra also welcomed the Florence Declaration of the first ever G7 Ministerial meeting on Culture. This Declaration referred, among others, to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, for which the legal and budgetary framework has now been agreed by all EU Institutions. Europa Nostra will be one of the key partners of the European Commission for the Year. We will be supporting and advising the EU Institutions as regards the European Year (official social media campaign: #EuropeForCulture ) as a member of the “stakeholders group”, together with members of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 (such as NEMO, ENCATC, FRH, EHHA etc). Belgrade Conference: Heritageforce for South-East EuropeFrom 15-17 June, in Belgrade, Europa Nostra, EuropaNostra Serbia and South East European HeritageNetwork held the conference “Cultural Heritage Countsfor (South-East) Europe” and capacity-building days on“Education and Citizens Engagement”. gathered more than 150 experts and stakeholders fromSEE region and other parts of Europe in discussing theapproaches and challenges in measuring the impact ofcultural heritage on the economy, society, culture and theenvironment. Read more

EU supports “Sharing Heritage -Sharing Values” ProjectEuropa Nostra was selected for EU funding for theimplementation of its ambitious network project “SharingHeritage – Sharing Values” for the next 4 years. In viewof the upcoming European Year of Cultural Heritage2018, the evaluators stressed the relevance of EuropaNostra in mobilising key players in the field of heritageand acknowledged the high quality of the projectproposal which scored 89 out of 100 points. Europa Nostra speaks at CultureCouncil of the EUOn 23 May, Europa Nostra addressed the CultureCouncil of the European Union on the role of culture andcultural heritage for the EU’s external relations. Duringtheir meeting, the Culture Ministers from all 28 EUMember States discussed and adopted CouncilConclusions on an EU strategic approach tointernational cultural relations. This is the first timeEuropa Nostra had been invited to speak at a Councilmeeting in Brussels and marks a new step in therecognition by EU Institutions of Europa Nostra’s work.Read more

Bougival (France): Contribute tothe crowdfunding campaign!21 June 2017 marked the 20th anniversary of theEuropean Day of Music, and the start of a crowdfundingcampaign aiming at mobilising support for therenaissance of Bougival, an historic town near Paris thatpreserves the memory of great European artists from19th century. A press conference was held yesterday inParis under the patronage of Europa Nostra and itsPresident Maestro Plácido Domingo who recorded avideo message urging people to support this crowd-funding campaign and help save the house where Bizetworked on the orchestration of “Carmen”. “Foundations4Heritage”meetings in Lisbon and WarsawOn 7 April, in Lisbon, Europa Nostra and the GulbenkianFoundation held the second meeting of“Foundations4Heritage”. 37 representatives from 21European foundations and other relevant institutionsparticipate in the meeting. On 31 May, in Warsaw, duringthe Annual Conference of the European FoundationCentre, Europa Nostra presented the European Year ofCultural Heritage and the “Foundations4Heritage”initiative to key European foundations. European Heritage Awards 2018:Apply by 1 October 2017The EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa NostraAwards recognise the most outstanding achievements inconservation, research, dedicated service, andeducation, training and awareness-raising. In 2018, theAwards will be used as a pivotal instrument forpromoting the key objectives and messages of theEuropean Year of Cultural Heritage.
