AROUND THE GROUNDS
The last ball has been bowled and hit for 2017 with our teams now breaking for the Christmas
break. Our junior teams will resume competition on Saturaday January 27, 2018 while our
seniors return much ealier on Saturday January 6, 2018 playing three one day matches in this
period.
Our junior sides didn’t have the best final round before the break with only three wins,
although there were a couple of sides that went down by the narrowest of margins. At this
stage of the season with three matches left to be played our undefeated 10A’s and 16C team
are both holding down first while our 14D, 12A and 10F sides are all in second positions in
their respective competition. Best performers this round were Corey Moors (16A) 85, Hayden
Lindsay (14A) 53 & 2 for 11, Charlie Te Hira (14D) 50 not out, Luke Ritchie (14A) 3 for 12, Kyle
Blakeney (10B) 2 for 5 and Connor Ganderton (10A) 2 for 11.
Seniors have another five rounds to play, which include 3 x one dayers and 2 x two dayers.
Both our 2 x B2 teams and B5 team are well placed for a spot in the semi finals, while our B1
side also has a chance to make the play offs. Best performers over the past two Saturdays has
come from centurian’s Josh Kedwell (B3) 153 and Brayden Heffernan (B3) 127 not out with
Brett Campbell (B5) 84, Corey Moors (B2) 78 not out, Pat Bird (B5) 72, Brayden Heffernan (B3)
again with 72 & 3 for 27 and Tim Berry (B3) 66. The best of the bowlers was Mitchell Davis
(B2) 4 for 26.
The Club wishes all their players and families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy
New Year.

MATCH REPORTS
10A Team
Round 7 for the 10A’s had us back at Kirrawee against St Pats. Tyson won the toss and elected to bat. We lost Jayden early, but Kade (25*) and Ryan (21*) kicked off with a stellar 60 run partnership and we went into the innings break at 1/75. Tom and Mason opened the bowling, with Mason getting the opening strike courtesy of a keepers catch to Lachlan. But yet again everyone in the team bowled very well, never giving St Pats any breathers. A wicket to Connor, a keepers catch to Lucas off Lachlan, and Kade’s demolition of the poles of St Pats leading batter . . . and the hosts were 4/44 at the break. Week 2, and more of the same from our bowlers. Another keepers catch to Lucas off Warnie (aka Noah), and a stump rattler to Connor and St Pats were struggling. With 5 slips in place, the boys had some fun in the field, and St Pats ended up 6/82 – a lead of 7. Batting, we had the victory in the second over. Lachlan was unlucky to get out early to St Pats strike bowler, but Connor 14*, Lucas 17*, Tyson 18*, Mason 11*, Tom 6 and Noah 1 all got a chance to hit out with Lucas having a crack at The Big Show crown with his attempt at a reverse sweep (successfully) and a ramp (not so successfully)!! We finished 4/154, Ryan won the Man of the Match honours with his triple effort with Bat, Ball and Gloves, and we ended the year with a big win. Boys: hope you all have a great Christmas holiday break. You should be proud of your efforts. All of you are mighty capable with bat and ball and you should be proud of yourselves. Make sure you hit the nets over the break and keep your skills up so we can keep going from game 1 next year.

10B Team The Mighty Dragons 10B Coach, Manager and parents could not be more proud of the squad
this round. The player’s performance in this match was the best we have seen to date giving
one of the best sides in the competition a serious run for their money. In the end we went
down swinging, defeated 5/123 to 9/94 by Miranda Magpies.
Captain Mitch Brownscombe took the 20 cents to the toss and we got sent in to bat. Mitch's
efforts as captain this match set us up for the great result that we enjoyed. His enthusiasm in
the field was infectious and he had his fellow fieldsmen walking in on every delivery and
encouraging the bowlers. Excellent job Mitch.
Ethan and Cooper got us under way and both batsmen carried their bat through 10 overs
remaining undefeated. A middle order collapse meant that we had to summons them to put
the pads back on in week 2. Cooper accumulated 7 gritty runs and Ethan showed a beautiful
mix of elegance and force to finish not out for 22. This not out knock earned him Play of the
Day after week 1. The Captain was in at 3rd drop and it was a delight to see Mitch B deliver on
the batting promise that we had been waiting for. Magpies tried every trick in the book to
take his wicket but couldn't do so; 19 not out. Bradford strode to the crease with purpose and
immediately blasted a boundary then a 3 and 1 to finish up with 8. Tom was just starting to
settle in before being brilliantly caught at short mid wicket for 0. Lucas showed plenty of
patience and has an impeccable defence. He batted through 9 overs before being caught
behind for nought. Kyle came in at number 7 and in order to get the runs flowing got caught
behind for nil trying to smash the ball from Grays Pt to Bundeena. We needed a steadying
influence in the lower order and Zach Brownscombe answered the call. His batting displayed
equal quantities of attack and defence before he too got caught by the wickie for 9 valuable
runs. Ollie got 2 cracks at batting this match and in his usual way showed plenty of power
smashing a couple of 2's then a quick single totalling 5 runs. Mitch Duric kept the tail wagging
for a few balls before being unluckily bowled for zero.
With the ball and in the field was where we really excelled this match. This was particularly
evident after week 1 were the match was dead even and we had Miranda running scared. The
bowling was superb, the fielding made them earn their runs and our sundry count was kept to
a minimum.
Zach got us under way and we called upon him to send down 5 overs that yielded a mix of leg
spin, off spin, medium pace swing and express seam. Variety is the spice of life and this
outstanding effort was recorded as 1/15 off 5. Ollie also had to bend the back for 5 overs and
restricted the runs to finish 0/11. Kyle was our star with the ball this match, smashing the
stumps twice in one of his 5 overs. 2/5 are impressive figures. Ethan's 4 overs were beautifully
consistent and he only gave away 12. Lucas carried us through 4 overs with nice line and
length to complete a spell of 0/17. Mitch Duric's bowling has improved out of sight this
season and it was pleasing to see his off cutters restricting the scoring to 0/11 off 4. Cooper

toiled through 4 miserly overs including a maiden and knocked middle stump back with a
beautiful delivery. Mitch Brownscombe's bowling was superb against their classy opening
batsmen, knocking over one of them and keeping the scoring to a minimum for the other. His
figures show 1/10. Bradford's searing pace had the magpies behaving like ducks and weaving
around. Unlucky not to take a wicket he got 0/10 off 4. We missed Tom in week 1 through
illness and he returned to the fold second week sending down 3 sundry free overs for 8. His
best effort was in the field taking one of the best catches witnessed internationally in 10B
cricket. This effort earned him the swim for play of the day.
At the end of play the selectors conferred and judged that Zach had swiped the milkshake
from under the nose of his brother for Corner Brew Man of the Match.
Boys, we've enjoyed an excellent start to the season. Our skills have improved and we are
really taking it up to the top sides in the competition. I hope everyone has a safe and merry
Christmas/New year period. We look forward to catching up on 23 January to see the Sydney
Sixers smash the Melbourne Stars
10F Team
The top of the table clash against Caringbah was set to be a little ripper. The mighty 10F
“Smithy’s” were pumped and set for revenge.
The “Smithy’s” were light on troops for the first week and played exceptionally well with great
performances with the ball and bat. Liam Wendt finished with great figures of 1/11 from 4
overs. He was well supported by Jake Davidson who had 1/10 off 3 overs. Tom Faulkner was
great with him sending down some missiles just like the great Dennis Lillle back in the day at
the WACA. The first day was owned by Tom Faulkner who sprayed the Caringbah bowlers
over the shop with him scoring 28 off 18 deliveries. This included 3 fours and 2 sixes. At the
end of play day 1 the crew from the other side of the shire were 15 runs ahead of the
“Smithy’s”.

The second week saw the full complement of the team return and ready for revenge. Bowling
first saw the “Smithy’s” turn the screws and apply some early pressure. Good line and lengths
were delivered by all bowlers with Liam Wendt bowling a maiden and blistering the
Kingswood Oval pitch with Jeff Thompson like deliveries which had the Caringbah batters
quaking in their boots.
Our last 2 pairs had to bat and
Patrick Christman and Jake
Simpson were stoic in defence
and found it difficult to get the
Caringbah bowlers to the
boundary. Their tidy
combination contributed to the
cause which left Cooper Holmes
and Gabe Hamall-Westen to set
the tone and wrestle the game
back. This pair ran like cheetahs
up and down the pitch with
great backing up. Cooper
Holmes punished the bowling
with 5 fours and 3 sixes (one of
which sent the scorers ducking for cover) and scored a rapid fire 42 off 21 deliveries. But the
cool head of Gabe contributing with singles to support Cooper to get him on strike and also
hitting the boundary himself was a selfless knock which earned him the Smithy award for the
game. We were defeated by 10 runs, but were gallant in defeat and are now even hungrier to
push forward towards the finals.

Last match for 2017 wasn’t what we had wished for Christmas. Batting first we limped to 7 for 137
off our 50 overs with Kobey 44 not out, Koby 25, Mackay 21 and Josh Whippy opening the batting
for the first time 11. Full credit to Como’s bowling and fielding for restricting us to that total on a
quick outfield.
Week two and the less said the better. Fielding was terrible and reflected the attitude the boys
had shown at training with at least 30 runs gifted to the opposition. Missed catching opportunities
cost the side dearly and we went down to a well committed Como side that just wanted the
victory more than us.
Hopefully the Christmas break will see a change in attitude for the final three matches of the
season.
12B Team
In Round 7 the team played Cronulla Seagulls at our home ground. Cronulla Seagulls were off
to a great start in the first innings being 49 ahead and declared in the second innings after the
finish of over 46 with a score of 4/234. Unfortunately they were too strong and won the
round with the Dragons final score being 10/133.
The team was captained by Maeve, supported by Kyle as the Vice Captain.
Batting was opened by Bailey and Lucas however the Seagulls were too strong with
the majority of our batsman bowled out. Our highest run scorer this round was Patrick with
32 runs followed by Angus (18), Kyle (15), Balin (8), Hayden (5), Aidan W (3), Lucas (3), Aiden S
(2), Koby (2) and Jacob out for a duck. Maeve kindly volunteered to sit out as 12th woman this
round.
Great fielding with 2 catches in the field taken by Bailey while strong performances in bowling
by both Ballin and Lucas who each achieved a wicket. The excitement of both school holidays
and Christmas must have affected the team this round with total sundries at their highest
ever of 74, largely in no balls (35) and wides (24).
Wicket keeping this round was shared by Jacob, Maeve and Hayden.

This week the player of the match was Patrick for his bowling and batting. This has been a
great week for Patrick who was also announced as School Captain.
Enjoy the holidays and look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!
14A Team A rather chilly morning met the two teams on their home ground. The Dragons won the toss and elected to bat first. The first wicket fell in the second over - Jake caught at slip for 1, the score 1/4. Runs weren't easy to come by and the score cautiously reached 19 after 6 overs. Luke was next to lose his wicket for 6, the score now 2/19 (8th over). Beau combined well with Hayden and the partnership moved the score to 57 before Beau was dismissed after scoring 8 runs. The Dragons broke the century mark in the 46th over for the loss 5 wickets. Hayden scored a wonderful 52 before being caught in the 47th over. Runs were hard to come by all innings as Bangor bowled and fielded very tightly. The Dragons finished their innings on 7/ 102 after batting out their 50 overs. A much warmer day met the teams on the second week and it looked set for a great few hours of cricket. The Dragons needed to bowl just as tightly as Bangor did to stay in the match. The Dragon’s bowlers were up for the challenge- only 8 runs being scored off the first 6 overs! Bangor lost their first wicket on 11runs off a great bowl from Hayden- sending the stumps flying. Three overs later, Luke also sent the stumps hurtling- Bangor now 2/ 24 after 10 overs. With the game evenly poised, Hayden fractured his thumb after brilliantly fielding a firmly hit ball, ruling him out of the rest of the match with a trip to the Emergency Department. One bowler and fielder down, the Dragons knew they now faced an even greater challenge if they were to claim victory. Wickets continued to tumble and the fielding was strong - Bangor struggling at 9/50 after 32 overs. It seemed all but over for Bangor as they still needed another 53 runs with only 1 wicket remaining. Bangor’s final 2 batsmen put on a fantastic last wicket partnership and did the unthinkable- steering Bangor to victory, causing the Dragons to make uncharacteristic errors in the field in the final overs…oh so close! Congratulations to both teams on a great game of cricket - a perfect way to lead into the Christmas break
