DISADVANTAGES OF WOOD
Wood options can vary, but all have characteristics that should be considered before making
the investment.
Pressure treated lumber, like pine, can fade quickly and requires frequent sanding and staining. While
it appears to be more affordable upfront, it can actually exceed the cost of a composite deck over time.
The price for Redwood and Cedar is growing as environmental conditions, like forest fires, contribute to
declining supply. Exotic and tropical woods, like Ipe, contribute to deforestation and are not sustainable.
