Engineering Beginners Guide

Are you a tech person? Do you also dream of following the footsteps of global leaders like E.Shreedharan, Sunder Pichai and Jeff Bezos? Then probably you’ve done a right thing by downloading this Engineering Beginners Guide. This effective tool by CL aims at covering all your engineering related queries. India is a nation where majority of the population aspires to become an engineer. It is the largest producer of engi-neers globally where apparently 85% of 16 to18 year-olds have shown interest in engineering. Indeed this impulse for creation of engineers had to come. So get prepared to take your first step towards engineering.Let us become a part in marking your first step towards picking engineering as a career.

What is engineering?Engineering is a branch of science and technology which helps one to have a better understanding of this world and the surroundings through designing and building machines and structures. It is the art or science of making practical application of the knowledge of pure sciences, as physics or chemistry, as in the construction of engines, bridges, buildings, mines, ships, and chemical plants. It has several branches and fields within the various disciplines.

Why engineering?Ever wondered why engineering is the most popular course of our country? What is the driving force behind pursu-ing a career in engineering? Well we have got you covered by providing all one needs to know about engineering. The benefits arising out it are enormous and few of the main reasons to pursue engineering are listed here:1. Engineering is a prestigious course- Engineering undoubtedly is one of the most prestigious courses we have

around us. A lot of effort goes into cracking the entrances and a lot more goes into qualifying as an engineer. This proves why people consider it as an elite profession having a good status in the society.

2. Handsome pay- Engineers from top colleges are able to bag high packages which go in lacs. We have also wit-nessed that many times they secure a pay better than what post-graduates are getting. Engineering programs take up almost 40% of the slots in the top 10 paying majors’ lists.

3. Gives a chance to leave an impact on the world- Engineering has more impact on the world than any other profession. Engineers shape the world. They construct bridges, buildings, machines and are actually positively contribute something to society.

4. Highly productive even with a bachelor’s degree- Engineers are very productive and knowledgeable. Their knowledge about coding and programming, mapping and analytics; their problem solving and decision making skills make them very employable with a bachelor’s degree.

What all specializations can one pursue in engineering? All engineering degrees are based on one (or a combination) of the 4 major disciplines of Civil, Chemical, Mechani-cal & Electrical Engineering. Depending upon the rank of students in qualifying examination and of course consider-ing their interest, one can opt for any of these aforesaid specializations.

Engineering Entrance Exams JEE (Main and Advanced) - All the IIT aspirants have to sit for JEE Main and afterwards, JEE Advanced. Only the

top 150,000 scores in JEE Main will become eligible to sit for JEE advanced.

BITSAT- All the BITS aspirants have to sit for BITSAT. Only the top rankers will be admitted. Based upon their score and rank in the BITSAT, shortlisted candidates are called for counseling.

VITEEE- B.Tech degrees from Vellore Institute of Technology are achieved by successfully getting through the VITEEE examination conducted every year. The students based on their merit are given a range of options to pursue their under graduation from VIT.

There are a few other entrances conducted by some of the Universities for admission into their B.tech program. Students can click here to know more about various other engineering entrances.

Myths about EngineeringThere is no thumb rule to determine your suitability to become an engineer, but if you have a liking for numbers, calculations, science; if you have the ability to think out of the box and an urge to solve complex problems of the world through technology; if you are creative, skilful and a challenge seeker, then you are game for engineering. But there are certain myths about engineering that need to be busted.

Myth- Most of the engineers in today’s time are unemployed.

Reality- It is defi nitely not true that most of them are unemployed. Engineering sector generates millions of job posi-tions for engineers every year. Those from top institutes get placed at a package which may be a dream for 90% of the population. Anyone who is knowledgeable, skilful and hardworking will always be able to land up a good job.

Myth- Only Computer Science Engineers get a decent package.

Reality- This is totally untrue. It is true that I.T. is one of the highest employment generating sectors but there is a huge demand for other engineers in the market. Civil engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and chemical engineers also enjoy a great position and reputation in market.

Myth – Most engineers are able to grab a package in the bracket of Rs.15000-25000 a month.

4

Reality- It is the era of technology we are living in. The industry has seen engineers bagging a package as high as an MBA. Many engineers from top colleges like IITs, NSIT, DTU etc. are fetching high packages and making us all proud.

Myth- There is no social life in engineering.

Reality- Time will always remain one of the scarcest resources, for everyone. Engineers can manage to take out time for family and friends just the way others do. It is not a rocket science. So there’s plenty of time left for social-izing and partaking in the wondrous activities of life.

So now if you’re convinced that engineering is your thing, check out our engineering classroom programs and don’t forget to visit our pages on Top Engineering Institutes of the country to know more about top institutes exten-sively. Good luck!!
