ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Designed to prepare you  to enter the workforce as an engineering paraprofessional this course will allow you to specialise in one of two streams (either Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering).

The mechanical engineering stream specialises in computer-aided design and drafting (cad), computer-aided manufacturing (cam), design (tooling), energy and heat transfer engineering, engineering (fluid power, materials, mechanical, process engineering), engineering mathematics and principles and industrial engineering.

The civil engineering stream specialises in civil design and drafting, computer-aided drafting (cad), construction, engineering (civil materials, civil, engineering, environmental, measurement, road drawing and survey), management, project management, structural design and structural drafting. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesThis course could lead to a variety of different roles, depending on the stream you choose. The Mechanical Engineering stream could lead to work as a mechanical draftsman, mechanical designer, production planner, production supervisor or engineering technician. Possible job outcomes for the Civil Engineering stream include; civil draftsman, laboratory technician, research assistant, construction supervisor or urban planning assistant.

Further study optionsThis course has an articulation with Deakin University. On successful completion of this course students should receive 18 months credit, and eligible students are now able to enrol directly into the fourth semester of the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Deakin University. This course also leads to further studies at other higher educational organisations.

Entry requirementsIt is preferable that you have successfully completed Year 12, or equivalent. The course is maths oriented, so a certain aptitude in mathematics is preferable. Mature age applicants are encouraged to apply.

DIPLOMA OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

CERTIFICATE III IN ENGINEERING – FABRICATION TRADE

How to enrol: Direct entry

Location: Box Hill 

   3 years 

This course will provide you with practical training and skills in structural fabrication, layout and development of cylinders, conical sections and transition pieces. You will also weld using a variety of processes.

You will be taught important skills in communicating effectively in the workplace and providing a safe working environment.

This course is a stream of the National Metals and Engineering training package, and aligns with other related engineering trade training programs. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesAn exciting career in welding can take you into a variety of industries including; mining, industrial manufacturing, civil major projects and energy production.

Further study optionsYou may wish to progress into the Certificate IV in Engineering and then the Diploma of Engineering.

CERTIFICATE II IN ENGINEERING SPECIALISING IN APPLIANCE SERVICING

The Certificate II in Engineering (Appliance Servicing) is designed to provide industry recognised skills in engineering to people who are currently employed in the electrotechnology industry. You will gain a variety of skills required in the workplace through RPL/RCC assessment and classroom/workshop delivery.

You will be assessed on, or learn about occupational health and safety, quality systems and procedures and undertaking tasks. A variety of electives are available allowing you to specialise and focus on specific areas of electrotechnology engineering. The units are completed through recognition of prior learning (RPL) and recognition of current competency (RCC) and classroom/workshop delivery (if required). This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesCompletion of the course will enable an application to the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) for a Refrigerant Handling Licence, and also support an application to Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) for a Restricted Electrical Workers Licence.

Further study optionsYou may be eligible to progress into the Certificate III in Appliance Service or Certificate III in Airconditioning and Refrigeration.

Entry requirementsYou must have:

 > a minimum of 5 years experience  in the metals or electrotechnology trade

After successful completion of the Certificate II in Engineering Studies you will have basic factual, technical and procedural knowledge in areas such as machining, fabrication and maintenance.

You will have basic technical skills to use a limited range of equipment to complete tasks involving known routines and procedures with a limited range of options such as planning and setting up machining operations using work orders and following enterprise procedures, manufacturers specifications and environmental requirements. This course is accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).

On successful completion of this VET in Schools program you will achieve the following:

 > VCAL: This program contributes to the Industry Specific Skills Strand and may also contribute to the Work Related Skills Strand of VCAL

 > VCE: On completion you will be eligible for four units. Two units at the unit 1 and 2 level and two units at the 3 and 4 level.

ATAR: Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the Units 3 and 4 sequence must undertake scored assessment for the purposes of gaining a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the primary four or as a fifth or sixth study. This course is accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). 

Employment opportunitiesThe aim of this course is to provide you with pre-employment training and pathways in the engineering, manufacturing or related industries and accommodate entry into the wider engineering industry. Specifically, after completing this course you may:

Employment opportunitiesThe Advanced Diploma in Process Plant Technology has been developed as a technical qualification for use in the Chemical, Hydrocarbons and Refining Training Package (PMA08). This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced technical and paraprofessional operations within the chemical, hydrocarbons or refining industries. It is usually gained by those in a management or shift management position.

Employment opportunitiesA Process Plant Operator utilises sophisticated computerised equipment, in a safe and environmentally aware manner, to control the production processes and quality in both the chemical and oil industries. This course may provide you with employment as a process plant operator in more senior positions than those sought after completion of the Certificate II in Process Plant Operations. Operators working at this level will have responsibility for a unit within the plant.

During your studies you will gain technical skills related to engineering, chemical, environmental, maintenance and other technical analyses that may be needed for improving business sustainability. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesEmployment outcomes related to this qualification may include specialist roles, such as a sustainability manager, or the qualification can provide specialist sustainability competencies to technical, maintenance, supervisory or operational employees.

Supply Chain and Logistics Management (SCLM) is a combination of a network of infrastructure systems, facilities and distribution options that when operating effectively performs the functions of procurement of materials; the conversion of these materials into product at various stages of completion, and the distribution of both finished product or product to be transferred to the next stage of manufacture. The application of best practice SCLM systems has revolutionised both the manufacturing and service sectors alike.

Support through one-on-one tutoring and coaching will be provided by the Facilitator to each participant.

Management at all relevant levels is included in the ongoing review process that is an integral mainstay throughout the entirety of the facilitation of the Diploma. At the completion of each chat forum based workshop or block engagement program, practical tasks relating to the workshop content will be nominated. Participants will be required to action these tasks between workshops, submit in writing to the Facilitator and report on their progress to the group. This course is accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

This course will equip you with the skills to understand the best methods of designing, constructing and delivering lesson plans in order to train others to drive a motor vehicle. You will learn in a very positive learning environment which includes a variety of class time, online learning and extensive on-road training. 

With the guidance of highly skilled and respected instructors, you will learn the art of car control through verbal instruction, how to safely use the duel control systems in driving school vehicles and how to physically take control of the situation during an emergency. Vehicles you will use are modern and equipped with a full set of duel controls. 

You will also be well equipped with the skills to operate an independent business. You will learn about customer service, basic bookkeeping skills, working in a socially diverse environment and about Occupational Health and Safety in relation to driver training. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesYou will be qualified to teach and prepare clients in obtaining a Victorian driver’s licence (in vehicles under 4.5 tonne) for your own business or registered driving schools. 

Further study optionsYou may wish to study further modules and gain your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which will enable you to train others. Taking extra modules in other courses will allow you to teach truck drivers.

 > have a current full Victorian or Australian driver’s licence

 > have basic computer skills

 > have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills.

On completion of this course you must:

 > have a current Working with Children Check

 > have a National Police Record Check

 > have a medical check

 > provide all of the above, including certification of completing this accredited course when you apply for your Driver’s Instructor Authority (DIA).
