Engl 2245: horror Fall 2017: T/H 12:25-1:45 Instructor: Dr. Angela M. Smith What is horror? How do horror texts horrify us? Why do people produce and consume horror texts? What can horror texts teach us about our psychological, social, political, racial, gendered, sexual, and bodily fears and desires? This course introduces students to theories about the horror genre and teaches skills in literary and cinematic interpretation. Literary texts may include The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and short stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann and H.P.
