A Declarative Sentence makes a statement and ends with a period.

An Interrogative Sentence asks a question and ends with a question mark.

What is an Imperative Sentence?
An Imperative Sentence makes a command or request. It usually has an implied subject (you) and ends in a period or exclamation mark.
Don’t slip on that wet spot on the floor.Pass the salt, please.Go see who is at the door.
What is an Exclamatory Sentence?
An Exclamatory Sentence expresses strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark.

What is a Sentence Fragment?
A Sentence Fragment is a group of words that looks like a sentence but either lacks a subject or a verb or it does not express a complete thought.
Running down the field toward the goal.Since Marie has been at school.Although my dogs barks at strangers.
Phrase Fragments
A phrase is a group of words that does not have a subject or verb.
Verbal Phrases, Appositive Phrases, and Prepositional Phrases are often confused for sentences but are fragments.
Verbal Phrase Fragments
Verbal Phrases contain forms of a verb but act as different parts of a sentence.
Most common verbal phrases include:

Verbal Phrase Fragments
We will study these in depth later. For now, we must recognize these as potential sentence fragments!
Participial Phrases contain words ending in –ing or –ed that act as adjectives.
Walking across the street, (the children were careful)
Stunned by the surprise, (I was speechless)Falling asleep on the bus, (she missed her stop)
Verbal Phrase Fragments
Gerund Phrases start with words ending in -ing and act as nouns in a full sentence.
(The boys enjoy) swimming in the river on hot days.
Sitting in the shade of a tree (is a relief from the heat.)
(I really like) reading a good book.
Verbal Phrase Fragments
Infinitive Phrases start with the word “to” followed by a verb. They act as nouns in a full sentence.
(I love) to run and play on the playground. (We went) to watch a movie on Saturday
night.(It is hard) to work in hot weather for a long
time.
Phrase Fragments
Appositive Phrases further identify a noun in a sentence.
(Jim,) a very smart boy, (got all A’s this year.)(My best friend,) a quiet and shy girl, (is very
kind.) (Our dog,) a black and white spaniel, (is very
friendly.)
Phrase Fragments
Prepositional Phrases begin with a preposition and end with a noun or pronoun.
(The horses were sleeping) under the tree in the field.
(We walk) by the store on Main Street (every day.)
Over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house, (we go.)
Clause Fragments
A clause is a group of words that contains a subject and a verb but does not contain a complete thought.
Since I last saw you, (I have moved to a new school.)
(I like to exercise) because it is good for my health.
Although she is very young, (the girl is a good worker.)
