User directivesYour doctor is the one whom prescribed the orthosis and stipulates the duration of treatment. The daily use duration prescribed by the doctor must be observed closely. The use of the orthosis is done under the supervision of the doctor. The professional staff, which builds and adapts the articulation system into the orthosis, is responsible for correct functioning of the Joints. In case of skin problems, circulation problems, unusual pain or other complications, which to your opinion are directly related to the product, please contact your doctor or CO at once.

Intended use / IndicationsUsage of the Swing Phase Lock® 2 knee Joint system provides an optimum care for patientswith Paresis/Paralyses (e.g. Polio) and as a consequence contributes to a successful therapeutic treatment. Other usage as prescribed above is not permitted. For a correct application the usagein combination with the satellite in the orthosis is mandatory. The Joint system has been designed only as a non-weight bearing Joint (KAFO/KO) and should not be used in any weight bearing orthoses. Non-observance of these regulations excludes any liability claims. When used in a monolateral construction, the maximum patient weight cannot exceed more than 100 kg (220 lbs).

Functional features / Other terms / UsagesThis articulating system is meant to compensate weakened or Total Failure of the Knee Extension function.The SPL 2 Joint offers knee stability during stance and offers free movement of the knee duringswing. This feature is fully automatically activated with each step. The Joint is available in two different version, for usage as a monolateral Joint or as a bilateral Joint. It is prohibited to be used in water or exposed to temperatures exceeding 50°C.

ImportantThe patient must be well informed concerning the functions and possibilities of the Knee Jointsystem.

FunctionTechnical Features SPL 2The technique of the SPL 2 Joint (Swing Phase Lock) is based on a simple internal pendulum mechanism, which locks and unlocks the knee depending on the angle of the Joint in the sagittal plane. During gait, the device locks at the end of swing phase, just prior to heel strike, and unlocks the knee at heel off in preparation for swing. The Joint cannot be unlocked if it is loaded in fl exion. The SPL 2 Joint is always to be mounted on the lateral side and is suitable for 19 mm Uprights. The Joint weight is 340 grams.

Technical Features SPCDe technique of the SPC Joint (Swing Phase Control) usage friction to regulate or infl uenceexcessive Knee Flexion. The moment to full fl exion is somewhat shortened and slightly variable.The SPC- Joint is always to be mounted on the medial side and is suitable for 19 mm Uprights. The Joint weight is 190 grams.

Technical Features SatelliteThe SPL 2 Joint is controlled by a proximal remote push-button switch (Satellite). The Clip provides easy access and free positioning, e.g. on the contra lateral side in case of Hemiplegic. Direct mounting on the Orthosis is possible with the special adapter provided with the Satellite.


The 4 modes to manually control the SPL 2 Joint are:1. Automatic locking2. Single unlocking3. Permanent unlocking4. Permanent locking

By deactivating the permanent unlocking mode the Satellite switches into the permanent lockingmode and needs to pushed into the Automatic function.

Cleaning / disinfection InstructionsThe SPL 2 Joint may not be greased, oiled or in any other way lubricated. When cleaned, please use Naphtha (no acetone, dilutions or turpentine, etc.) or some similar cleaning fl uids or compressed air.

Maintenance InstructionsMaintenance cycles depend strongly on the patients activity level. At a moderate activity level, theJoints must be checked / serviced every 6 months. When doing this, attention must be paid to wear and tear, Joint play and damages. If the Joint is no longer running freely, a thorough serviceis recommended.If the Joint has been, due to circumstances, extremely heavily loaded in a fl exed position e.g. with stumbling, tripping or walking (falling) down the staircase, the Joint has to be inspected by theOrthotist. In case the patient constantly walks with a slightly fl exed knee or regularly usage thesafety stops, adjustment of the extension position towards fl exion is absolutely necessary.

Constructional guidelines

Orthosis construction

MeasuringCasting must be done with a fully, in neutral, extended leg. Stretching however should bepossible without to much effort to allow full extension (needed to unlock the Joint) once theOrthosis is worn.When the Alignment Unit is used (art. nr. IQ150) to construct the Orthosis, make sure the square with the T-bar is placed horizontal in the Frontal Plane to keep the axis straight. Alignment should be based on the plumb line to create a neutral baseline for the Function Unit.

Orthosis ConstructionBasically any type of construction is suitable as long as suffi cient torsion rigidity and apossibility of changing the fl exion position during the initial fi tting is taken into account. When the Joint is used in a Carbon fi ber reinforced Construction, the SPL 2 should be disassembled by removing the Satellite – disconnect the cable within the Function Unit (H) and loosen the IQ set screws (D), Loosen the adjustment screw and gently pull the cable from thehousing. Now the Function Unit (H) can be pushed inside and removed.The SPC fl exion Control Unit has to be removed (E) and sealed with Stick Wax (art. nr. 990035)to prevent improper resin fl ow. In this case the Upright spacer can be used (art. nr. 029860) and aligned, allowing the Joints to be mounted in a later stage.

Joint AlignmentThe Alignment Unit has to be parallel to the plumb line. The SPC Joint should not be aligned in full extension. If the Joint is aligned without using the Unit the Cover Plates (B) may be removedallowing the Joint axis to be used for parallel alignment.

Dynamic Initial Fitting

Function Check Prior to the initial fi tting the proper setting of the Joint need to be checked■ The slotted arm of the Function Unit (H) must be set in neutral 0

position (see picture) when the Satellite is in the 1st mode. Adjust with the Proximal adjustment screw (F) on the SPL 2 is necessary.

■ Can the SPL 2 Joint lock after swing with the Satellite in the 1st mode?

Adjusting locking and unlockingTiming settings to lock or unlock can be read or adjusted by moving thependulum weight of the Function Unit. ■ Moving the pendulum ANTERIOR (forward), DECREASES the

tendency to lock, because its weight is shifted forward.■ Moving the pendulum POSTERIOR (backward), INCREASES the

tendency to lock because its weight is shifted backward.

Satellite ControlThe patient needs to be informed on how to operate the Satellite ControlMode 1 is the normal position for automatically locking and unlocking during gait.Mode 2 is to manually single unlocking the SPL 2 Joint.

At full extension the 1st mode is activated again. Mode 3 is a mode in which the SPL 2 Joint is permanently unlocked (e.g. for cycling) NOTE: By deactivating the permanent unlocking mode the Satellite switches into the

permanent locking mode and needs to pushed into the Automatic function.Mode 4 is a security mode in which the SPL 2 Joint is permanently locked

(e.g. domestic environment, frequent small movements, …).Allows the Orthosis to be loaded in any given position.


Satellite pull/relieve cableTo ensure the relieve of the Satellite outer cable it is required to mount the Pull-Relieve Cable (attached on the outside of the Satellite cable) as close as possible to the top side of the Joint onto the orthosis. To do so, use the cable connectors supplied in the packaging. Avoid hocking of the cable by using the cable clamps, that are also supplied to connect the cable to the orthosis.

Shorten satellite cable1. Remove the cover on the inside of the SPL 2 Joint and be sure to

put the Joint in the permanently locked mode (see Fig. 1).2. Remove the shrink wrap making sure the Pull-relieve cable is free

from the outer cable. 3. Unscrew the satellite and remove the satellite cable end block. 4. Using a twisting motion, loosen the adjustable screw from the outer

cable and remove the inner cable from the satellite.5. Decide the length of the cable (bear in mind the thread in the

adjustable screw, ±5mm) and shorten the external cable using asharp knife (be careful not to damage the internal cable).

6. Position a new shrink wrap over the outer cable.7. Srew the cable back unto the Satellite connector.8. Position the Slider all the way down in the Satelliet housing

(see Fig. 2).9. Feed the inner cable through the satellite cable end block to

determine the right length. Note that the position of the slotted arm in the Function Unit does not change. Screw it tight.

10. Cut the cable ± 2 mm above the cable end block.11. Position the Slider back over the cable end block.12. Close the Satellite making sure the small spring is properly

positioned.13. Check the various modes of the satellite and if necessary correct the

position of the slotted arm (see Fig. 3) using the adjustable screw. 14. After settings are done secure them with the set screw.15. Reposition the cover back on the SPL 2 Joint.16. Reposition the pull/relieve cable and the shrink wrap.17. Shrink the wrap using a heat gun.18. Mount the cable connector and position the cable as close as

possible to the Joint onto the Orthosis.19. Connect the clamps and Nylonplex rivets on the Satellite cable.20. Check all 3 modes again.

Once all the adjustments are done, the opening on the Function Unit must be re-sealedusing the IQ sticker. This reduces the likelihood of dirt and clothing fi bers getting in.

Checking all functionsAll functions must be checked once again. Do all three modes on the satellite switch reliably? Can a reliable locking be achieved with free swing and is the locking suffi cient (is the cable to the satellite on the right length, is the inner cable in a neutral position, in the 0 position)? Does theJoint unlock reliably after the back swing? Are the stops all again in position and does the Joint run without play and smoothly?

GebruiksrichtlijnenUw behandelend arts is degene die de orthese heeft voorgeschreven en de behandelduur bepaald. De door de arts gestelde dagelijkse gebruiksduur dient nauwkeurig nageleefd te worden. Het gebruik van orthesen dient onder de supervisie van de arts te gebeuren. Het vakpersoneel, welke het systeemscharnier inbouwt en aanpast, is verantwoordelijk voor het correct functioneren van de scharnieren. Bij huidproblemen, doorbloedingproblemen, ongewoonlijke pijn of overige complicaties, die naar uw mening naar het product te herleiden zijn, dient u direct contact op te nemen met uw behandelend art of orthopedisch instrumentmaker.

Beoogd gebruik van het product / IndicatiesMet de inzet van het Swing Phase Lock® 2-orthesen kniescharnier wordt een optimale verzorging van patiënten met Paresen / Paralyse (o.a. Polio patiënten) bereikt en als gevolg daarvan bijgedragen aan een succesvolle therapeutische behandeling. Een andere inzet van het scharnier is niet toegestaan. Voor een correcte toepassing is het gebruik in combinatie met de satelliet in een orthese vereist. Het scharniersysteem mag enkel worden toegepast in ondersteunende orthesen (KAFO / KO). Het niet naleven van deze voorschriften sluit iedere vorm van aansprakelijkheid uit. Bij inzet in een monolaterale orthesen constructie is het maximaaltoegestane patiëntengewicht 100 kg.

FunctiesTechnische eigenschappen SPL 2 De techniek van het SPL 2-scharnier (Swing Phase Lock) ofwel zwaaifase vergrendeling, berust op de herkenning van de stand tot de middenloodlijn. Het scharnier stabiliseert / vergrendelt bij volledige extensie vóór hielcontact en maakt een vrije beweging mogelijk tijdens het doorzwaaien vanhet onderbeen (zwaaifase). Het scharnier kan bij een belasting in de fl exierichting niet ontgrendelen.Het SPL 2-scharnier is uitsluitend bestemd voor laterale montage en is geschikt voor aansluiting op 19 mm systeemstangen. Het gewicht bedraagt 340 gram.

Technische eigenschappen SPCDe techniek van het SPC (Swing Phase Control) ofwel zwaaifase controle maakt het regelen / beïnvloeden van de zwaaifase mogelijk om een overmatige fl exie van de knie te voorkomen. Hierdoor wordt het moment tot volledige extensie verkort. De mate van beïnvloeding is licht variabel.Het SPC-scharnier is uitsluitend bestemd voor de montage aan de mediale zijde en is geschikt voor aansluiting op 19 mm systeemstangen. Het gewicht bedraagt 190 gram.

Technische eigenschappen SatellietHet SPL 2-scharnier kan met de satelliet handmatig worden bediend. De clipfunctie maakt een eenvoudige bediening mogelijk door de vrije positionering, bijv. aan de contralaterale zijde bijHemiplegie (halfzijdige verlamming) van de patiënt. Directe bevestiging aan de orthese is ook mogelijk middels de bijgeleverde orthese bevestigingsadapter.


De vier modi voor de bediening van het SPL 2-scharnier zijn:1. automatische vergrendeling2. eenmalige ontgrendeling3. permanente ontgrendeling4. permanente vergrendeling

Bij het deactiveren van de permanente ontgrendeling springt de satelliet eerst in de permanente vergrendeling modus en dient daardoor omhoog in de automatische vergrendeling geduwd teworden.

Reinigingsinstructies / Desinfecteer instructies Het SPL 2-scharnier mag niet gevet, geolied of anderszins gesmeerd worden. Voor het reinigenmag uitsluitend wasbenzine (geen aceton, verdunningen of terpentine, etc.) of luchtdruk gebruikt worden.

OnderhoudsinstructiesDe onderhoudscycli zijn sterk afhankelijk van de belasting door de patiënt. Bij een gemiddeldactiviteitenniveau dienen de scharnieren iedere 6 maanden gecontroleerd te worden. Daarbij dient speciaal gelet te worden op slijtage, speling en andere beschadigingen. Indien het scharnier nietmeer vrij bewegelijk is dient het direct geïnspecteerd te worden. Indien het scharnier in gefl ecteerde toestand, door omstandigheden, extreem zwaar belast is bv. met struikelen of trap afl open, dient het scharnier door vakpersoneel gecontroleerd te worden. Indien de patiënt constant met een licht gefl ecteerd scharnier loopt of regelmatig in deveiligheidsstop slaat is het afstellen van de extensiepositie in de fl exierichting absoluut noodzakelijk.

Opbouw- en montagerichtlijnen

Opbouw van de orthese

Maat nemenHet gipsmodel dient genomen te worden met het been in volledige extensie. Het strekken dient echter wel zonder veel krachtsinspanning mogelijk te zijn, om later extensie van het been in deorthese zonder extra krachtsinspanning mogelijk te maken.Indien de orthese met de uitlijnunit (art. nr. IQ150) wordt opgebouwd, dient het vierkant, met de T-greep in de lengterichting van het gipsmodel, te worden ingebracht. De uitlijning moet plaatsvinden op de loodlijn zodat een neutrale uitgangspositie van de functie unit mogelijk is.

Orthesen constructieIn principe is iedere bouwvorm geschikt. Er moet rekening worden gehouden met een voldoende torsiestijfheid en een mogelijkheid tot aanpassen van de fl exiestand tijdens de pasfase.Als het scharnier in een vezelversterkte kunststof constructie wordt gebruikt, moet het SPL 2-scharnier worden gedemonteerd. Hiervoor wordt de satelliet van het scharnier losgehaald -de binnenkabel achter de hendel van het functie unit (H) loshaken en de IQ stelschroeven (D)losdraaien en vervolgens de afstelschroef met kabel uit het scharnierhuis trekken - en het functieunit (H) kan naar binnen worden gedrukt en verwijderd.Bij het SPC-scharnier moet de zwaaifaseregeling (E) worden verwijderd en het scharnier wordenafgedicht met Stick Wax (art. nr. 990035) om vervorming te voorkomen. In dat geval kunnen ook de orthesestang afstandhouder (art. nr. 029860) gebruikt worden. Deze worden zo uitgelijnd dat later de scharnieren gemonteerd kunnen worden.

Scharnier uitlijningHet monteren van de uitlijnunit dient te gebeuren in lijn met de belastingslijn. Het SPC-scharniermag niet in volledige extensie worden uitgelijnd. Als het scharnier wordt ingebouwd zonderuitlijnunit, kunnen de scharnier afdekplaten (B) worden verwijderd en het scharnier middelpuntworden gebruikt voor de parallelle uitlijning.

Dynamische pasfase

Functie controleVoorafgaand aan het passen dient de juiste instellingen van hetscharnier gecontroleerd te worden.■ De hendel van de functie unit (H) moet op de aangegeven positie

staan zoals afgebeeld, wanneer de satelliet in de eerste modus staat. Eventueel aanpassen met de instelschroef (F) op het SPL 2.

■ Kan het SPL 2-scharnier bij het doorzwaaien van het onderbeen vergrendeld worden wanneer de satelliet in de automatische modus is ingesteld?

Afstellen activering ver- en ontgrendelingDe instelling van de hoek voor ver- en ontgrendeling kan wordeningesteld/afgelezen op het bedieningsmechanisme. ■ Loshalen van de schroef en verschuiving van het pendelgewicht

naar voren = ontgrendeling bij kleine stap.■ Loshalen van de schroef en verschuiving van het pendelgewicht

naar achteren = ontgrendeling bij grote stap (voor meer zekerheid).

SatellietfunctiesDe patiënt moet worden geïnstrueerd over het gebruik van de satelliet. Modus 1 is de normale stand, waarbij automatisch de ver- en ontgrendeling plaatsvindt tijdens

het looppatroon.


Modus 2 dient voor de eenmalige, handbediende ontgrendeling van het SPL 2-scharnier. Zodra het scharnier weer in volledige extensie is gebracht is modus 1 weer geactiveerd.

Modus 3 Modus 3 is de modus waarin het SPL 2-scharnier permanent is ontgrendeld. LET OP: Bij het deactiveren van de permanente ontgrendeling springt de satelliet eerst

in de permanente vergrendeling modus en dient daardoor omhoog in de automatische vergrendeling geduwd te worden.

Modus 4 is een veiligheidsmodus waarbij het SPL 2-scharnier constant vergrendeld is (bv. in dehuiselijke omgeving, bij vele draaibewegingen, …). Deze functie maakt het mogelijk de orthese te belasten ongeacht de stand.

Trekontlasting van de satellietkabelVoor de ontlasting van de satellietkabel is het noodzakelijk dat de trekontlastingskabel (aan de buitenkant van de satellietkabel) zo dicht mogelijk bij het scharnier wordt bevestigd metde meegeleverde ringtong. Met de krimpkous kan de ontlastingskabel aan de buitenkabel vastgemaakt worden. Om te voorkomen dat men aan de kabel blijft haken moet de buitenkabel met de 2 meegeleverde kabelklemmen op de orthese gemonteerd worden.

Satellietkabel inkorten1. Verwijder de mediale afdekplaat van het SPL 2-scharnier en zorg

dat het scharnier in de vergrendelde modus, staat (zie Fig 1).2. Verwijder de krimpkous en de trekontlastingskabel.3. Open de satelliet en schroef het satelliet kabel eindblokje los.4. Schroef met een draaibeweging de kabel los van de

satellietaansluiting.5. Bepaal de gewenste kabellengte (incl. lengte satelliet scharnier

nippel, ± 5mm) en kort vervolgens de buitenkabel in.6. Plaats een nieuwe krimpkous over de buitenkabel. 7. Schroef de kabel wederom vast op de Satellietaansluiting8. Positioneer de schuif geheel naar beneden in de behuizing (zie Fig 2).9. Schuif de binnenkabel door het eindblokje om de juiste lengte

te bepalen en let hierbij op dat de stand in de functie unit niet veranderd. Schroef deze goed vast.

10. Knip de binnenkabel ± 2 mm boven het eindblokje af. 11. Plaats nu de schuif weer over het satellietkabel eindblokje in de

daarvoor bedoelde uitsparing.12. Sluit vervolgens de satelliet en let hierbij op dat het veertje op de

juiste plaats gepositioneerd is.13. Controleer de verschillende modi van de satelliet en corrigeer

eventueel de positie van de hendel door de satelliet scharniernippel aan de bovenzijde van het scharnier op of in te draaien (zie Fig. 3).

14. Na het instellen dient de zekeringschroef vastgedraaid te worden.15. Plaats de mediale afdekplaat terug op het scharnier.16. Plaats de trekontlastingskabel door de daarvoor bestemde opening

van de satellietaansluiting en de krimpkous.

Nadat alle instellingen en onderhoudswerkzaamheden zijn verricht dient de sleuf van het SPL 2-mechaniek met de IQ sticker afgedekt te worden. Hiermee wordt voorkomen dat erstof of vuiligheid binnendringt.

Controle van alle functiesAlle functies moeten nogmaals worden gecontroleerd. Schakelen alle drie modi van de satellietbetrouwbaar? Kan tijdens het vrije doorzwaaien een betrouwbare vergrendeling plaatsvinden en is de vergrendeling voldoende (is de binnenkabel naar de satelliet op de juiste lengte ingesteld, staat de binnenkabel tijdens de neutrale positie in de 0-stand)? Ontgrendelt het scharnier na het terugzwaaien betrouwbaar? Loopt het scharnier soepel en zonder speling?

AnwendungshinweiseIhr Arzt verordnet die Orthese und bestimmt die Behandlungsdauer. Die ärztliche Verordnung zur täglichen Gebrauchsdauer muss genau beachtet werden. Die Verwendung von Orthesen sollte unter Aufsicht eines Arztes geschehen. Das Fachpersonal, welches das Gelenksystem einbaut und anpasst, ist für die korrekte Funktion der Gelenke verantwortlich. Bei Hautreizungen, Durchblutungsstörungen, ungewöhnlichen Schmerzen oder sonstigen Komplikationen, die Ihrer Meinung nach auf das Produkt zurückzuführen sind, wenden sich umgehend an Ihren Arzt und/oder das Fachpersonal.

Zweckbestimmung des Produktes / IndikationenMit dem Swing Phase Lock®-Orthesen-Kniegelenk wird eine optimale Versorgung von Patienten mit Paresen / Paralyse (u.a. Polio-Betroffene) sichergestellt und maßgeblich zum therapeutischenErfolg beigetragen. Ein anderer Einsatz ist nicht gestattet. Für die korrekte Funktion istder Einsatz mit Satellit in einer Orthese vorgeschrieben. Mit dem Gelenksystem dürfen nurStützorthesen (KAFO-/KO) gefertigt werden. Eine Nichtbeachtung dieser Vorschriften schließtjegliche Haftungsansprüche aus. Bei der monolateralen Ausführung darf das maximale Patientengewicht 100 kg nicht überschreiten.

Funktionsmerkmale / Zulässige Betriebsbedingungen / EinsatzorteDas Gelenksystem ist dafür vorgesehen, die Schwäche oder den Ausfall der Kniestrecker zukompensieren.Das SPL 2-Gelenk bietet während der Standphase eine Verriegelung und während derSchwungphase die freie Bewegung des Kniegelenks. Die Ansteuerung dieser Funktion geschieht vollautomatisch bei jedem Schritt. Das Kniegelenk ist in zwei Varianten für die bilaterale undmonolaterale Gelenkversorgung erhältlich. Das Gelenksystem darf nicht im Wasser eingesetzt werden. Eine Erwärmung über 50° muss vermieden werden.

Wichtig:Der Patient muss ausführlich über Funktion und die Möglichkeiten des Gelenkes aufgeklärt werden!

FunktionTechnische Merkmale SPL 2Die Technik des SPL 2-Gelenkes (Swing Phase Lock), also der Standphasensicherung, beruht auf der Erkennung des Winkels zur Schwerpunktlinie. Das Gelenk stabilisiert/verriegelt bei voller Streckung kurz vor Fersenauftritt und erlaubt eine freie Bewegung während der Schwungphase des Unterschenkels. Das Gelenk kann bei einer Belastung in der Flexionsrichtung nicht entriegeln.Das Gelenk hat einen Schienenanschluss für 19 mm Systemschienen und ist nur für dielaterale Montage vorgesehen. Das Gewicht beträgt 340 g.

Technische Merkmale SPCDie Technik des SPC (Swing Phase Control), also der Schwung-Phasen-Kontrolle, erlaubt die Steuerung/Beeinfl ussung der Schwungphase um ein übermäßiges Flektieren des Knies zuverhindern. Dadurch wird die Strecke bis zur vollen Extension verkürzt. Die Beeinfl ussung kannleicht variiert werden.Das Gelenk hat einen Schienenanschluss für 19 mm-Systemschienen und ist nur für dieMontage an der medialen Seite vorgesehen. Das Gewicht beträgt 190g.

Technische Merkmale SatellitDas SPL 2-Gelenk ist durch einen Satelliten manuell zu bedienen. Die Clipfunktion ermöglicht eine einfache Bedienung durch freie Positionierung, z.B. an der kontralateralen Seite bei Hemiplegie(Halbseiten-lähmung). Eine Befestigung direkt an der Orthese ist durch das Austauschen des Clips ebenfalls möglich.


Die 4 Modi zur Bedienung des SPL 2-Gelenkes sind:1. automatische Verriegelung2. einmalige Entriegelung)3. permanente Entriegelung4. permanente Verriegelung

Beim Lösen der permanenten Verriegelung springt der Satellit in die permanente Verriegelung und muss wieder aus der Stellung in die Stellung automatische Verriegelung gebracht werden.

Reinigungshinweise / Desinfektionshinweise Das SPL 2-Gelenk darf nicht gefettet, geölt oder anderweitig geschmiert werden. Bei einerReinigung bitte ausschließlich Waschbenzin (kein Aceton, Verdünnungen, Terpentinersatz, etc.)und Druckluft verwenden.

WartungshinweiseDie Wartungszyklen sind stark von der Belastung des Patienten abhängig. Bei mittlerer Aktivität müssen die Gelenke alle 6 Monate geprüft werden. Dabei ist auf Verschleiß, Gelenkspiel und Beschädigungen zu achten. Sollte das Gelenk nicht mehr frei laufen, ist ein umgehender Service zu empfehlen. Sollte das Gelenk im fl ektierten Zustand extrem belastet worden sein, z. B. beim Springen von einem Absatz oder beim Herabgehen auf einer Treppe, sollte ein Service durchgeführtwerden beim Techniker. Sollte der Patient ständig mit leicht fl ektiertem Gelenk laufen ist eineNachjustierung der Extensionsstellung in Richtung Flexion unbedingt nötig.

Herstellung der Orthese

MaßnahmeDas Gipsmodell sollte in voller Streckung des Beins erstellt werden. Die Steckung muss ohne Kraftaufwand erfolgen, um später eine Steckung des Beins in der Orthese ohne zusätzlichen Kraftaufwand zu ermöglichen.Sollte die Orthese mittels der Ausrichtvorrichtung (Art.-Nr.: IQ150) aufgebaut werden, ist bei derModellerstellung entsprechend der Vierkant einzubringen. Die Ausrichtung sollte in der Lotlinie erfolgen, damit ist eine neutrale Ausgangsposition der Funktionseinheit gegeben ist.

OrthesenkonstruktionGrundsätzlich ist jede Konstruktionsart geeignet. Berücksichtigt werden muss eine ausreichendeTosionssteifi gkeit und eine Möglichkeit die Flexionsstellung bei der Anprobe zu verändern.Sollte das Gelenk in einer faserverstärkten Kunststoffkonstruktion eingesetzt werden, ist das SPL 2-Gelenk zu demontieren. Dazu wird der Satellit vom Gelenk gelöst - das Innenkabel an der Funktionseinheit (H) aushängen, beide IQ Stiftschrauben (D) lösen und die Feinjustierung mit Kabel herausschrauben - und die IQ Funktionseinheit (H) demontiert. Am SPC-Gelenk wird ebenfalls die Schwungphasensteuerung (E) entfernt und das Gelenk mit Stick Wax (Art.-Nr.: 990035) verschlossen bzw. behandelt, um eine spätere Entformungsicherzustellen.Ggf. kann auch der Schienenabstandshalter (Art.-Nr.: 029860) verwendet werden. Dabei werden die Eingussadapter so ausgerichtet, dass später das Gelenk montiert werden kann.

GelenkausrichtungBei der Montage auf dem Ausrichtsatz ist auf die Ausrichtung in der Belastungslinie zu achten.Das SPC Gelenk darf nicht in übermäßiger Extension ausgerichtet werden. Sollte das Gelenk ohne Ausrichtsatz eingebaut werden, so kann durch Abnehmen der Gelenkabdeckungen (B) dieGelenkmitte zur parallelen Ausrichtung verwendet werden. Dynamische Anprobe

Funktionskontrolle Vor der Anprobe muss die korrekte Einstellung des SPL 2-Gelenkes überprüft werden:■ Der Ausleger an der Funktionseinheit (H) muss wie in der

Abb. beschrieben stehen, wenn der Satellit im 1. Modus steht.Gegebenfalls durch drehen der Einstellschraube (F) am SPL 2-Gelenk korrigieren!

■ Kann das SPL 2-Gelenk durch Vorschwingen des Unterschenkelsverriegelt werden wenn der Automatikmodus am Satelliteneingestellt ist?

EntriegelungsbereitschaftMit der Einstellung an der Funktionseinheit kann der Winkel derVerriegelung und Entriegelung eingestellt werden. ■ Lösen der Schraube und Verschiebung des Pendelgewichtes

SatellitenfunktionenDer Patient muss in den Gebrauch des Satelliten eingewiesen werden.1. Modus ist die Normalstellung, bei der die automatische Entriegelung und Verriegelung in der

Gangabwicklung eintritt.


2. Modus dient zum einmaligen, manuellen Entriegeln des Gelenkes. Sobald das Gelenk wiederin die volle Extension gebracht wird, ist wieder der 1. Modus aktiv.

3. Modus ist ein Modus, in dem das SPL 2-Gelenk dauerhaft Entriegelt ist (z.B. fur Fahrradfahren). ACHTUNG: Beim Lösen der permanenten Verriegelung springt der Satellit in

die permanente Verriegelung und muss wieder aus der Stellung in die Stellungautomatische Verriegelung gebracht werden.

4. Modus ist ein Sicherheitsmodus, in dem das SPL 2-Gelenk dauerhaft gesperrt ist (zum Beispiel im häuslichen Umfeld, bei häufi gen Drehbewegungen, ...). Diese Funktionerlaubt eine Belastung der Orthese ohne Berücksichtigung der Stellung.

Zugentlastung des SatellitenkabelsDas Zugentlastungskabel dient zur Sicherung des Satellitenkabels gegen ungewolltes Auslösender Entriegelungsfunktion durch eine Ausdehnung des Kabels. Es muss unter Zug (kürzer als dasSatellitenkabel) mit der Klemmöse nahe dem SPL 2-Gelenk an der Orthese fi xiert werden. Um einVerhaken zu verhindern, wird der gesamte Kabelzug mit 2 Kabelklemmen an der Orthese fi xiert.

Satellitenkabel kürzen1. Entfernen die innere Abdeckplatte am SPL 2-Gelenk und stellen

Sie den Satelliten in den gesperrten Modus (Abb. 1).2. Entfernen Sie das Zugentlastungskabel und den

Schrumpfschlauch.3. Öffnen den Satelliten und entfernen Sie das Kabelendstück.4. Lösen Sie mit einer Drehbewegung den Satelliten vom Außenkabel.5. Bestimmen Sie die gewünschte Kabellänge (Gewinde in dem

Satellitenanschluss berücksichtigen, ca. 5 mm) und kürzen Sie das Außenkabel.

6. Ziehen Sie die Schrumpfhülle über das Satellitenkabel.7. Schrauben Sie das Außenkabel nun wieder in den

Satellitenanschluss.8. Setzen Sie den Schieber in das Satellitenunterteil und schieben Sie

den Schieber nach unten (Abb. 2). 9. Ziehen das Innenkabel so weit durch das Kabelendstück ohne

dass an der Funktionseinheit etwas verstellt wird und ziehen dieInnensechskantschraube des Kabelendstückes fest an.

10. Schneiden Sie das Innenkabel ca. 5mm über dem Kabelendstück ab.11. Entnehmen Sie den Schieber und setzen diesen auf das

Kabelendstück, damit das Innenkabel in der dafür vorgesehene Nut liegt.

12. Schließen Sie nun den Satelliten wieder und achten Sie auf denkorrekten Sitz der Feder.

13. Kontrollieren sie die verschiedenen Modi des Satelliten und korrigieren evtl. die Position des Hebels (Abb. 3) an der Funktionseinheit durch die Einstellschraube (ein- oder ausdrehen).


14. Wenn die Einstellungen abgeschlossen sind, muss die Sicherungsinnen-sechskantschraube an der Gelenkrückseite festgedreht werden.

15. Schrauben Sie die innere Abdeckplatte ans SPL 2- Gelenk.16. Ziehen Sie das Entlastungskabel durch die Öffnung des Ansatzstückes am Satelliten und den

Schrumpfschlauch.17. Schrumpfen Sie den Schrumpfschlauch mit einem Heißluftföhn an.18. Pressen Sie die Klemmöse auf das Entlastungskabel, um diese so nah wie möglich an das

Gelenk auf der Orthese zu befestigen.19. Befestigen Sie das Satellitenkabel mit den zwei Kabelklemmen und den Nyloplexnieten an der

Orthese.20. Überprüfen Sie die Funktion des SPL 2-Gelenkes.

Nachdem alle Einstellungen/Wartungsarbeiten vorgenommen wurden, muss die Öffnung der Funktionseinheit mit dem IQ-Aufkleber verschlossen werden. Damit wird das Eindringen von Schmutz und Kleidungsabrieb vermindert.

Kontrolle aller FunktionenAlle Funktionen müssen nochmals geprüft werden. Schalten alle drei Modi am Satelliten zuverlässig. Kann beim freien Durchschwingen eine zuverlässige Verriegelung erreicht werden und ist die Verriegelung ausreichend (ist der Zug zum Satelliten auf der richtigen Länge, steht also der Zug in neutraler Position, in 0-Stellung)? Entriegelt das Gelenk nach dem Zurückschwingen zuverlässig? Sind die Anschläge alle wieder in Position und läuft das Gelenk frei und geschmeidig?
