Vivien LeighDate of Birth:5 November 1913, Darjeeling, West Bengal, British India. [now India] Date of Death:7 July 1967, London, England, UK (chronic tuberculosis)

Vivien Leigh didn't make many films, but she made movie history with her portrayal of Scarlett in Gone With the Wind (1939), winning her first Oscar. Leigh's affair and marriage to actor Laurence Olivier was just as famous as her ambitious effort to play the lead in what was then -- and maybe still is -- Hollywood's biggest event. Her appearances in film were few and far between, but she won another Oscar in 1951 for A Streetcar Named Desire (Her marriage to Olivier ended in 1960, and Leigh's final years were spent battling manic-depression and tuberculosis.

Liz was a leading child star by the age of 12 after her performance in MGM's National Velvet (1944). It wasn't long before she was knocking critics dead as a serious adult actress with films like Giant (1956), Raintree County (1957) and BUtterfield 8 (1960). She reigned the box office from 1958-68 as the quintessential movie star taking the breath away from viewers with her glamorous looks and those velvet eyes. Her film career floundered in the 1970s with a string of unusual and unsuccessful films. Her personal life has been a tempest of love affairs, unsuccessful marriages and multiple medical problems. Upon the death of her friend, Rock Hudson in 1985, she began her crusade on the behalf of AIDS sufferers. In the 1990s, she has also developed a successful series of scents. Her acting career has been relegated to the occasional tv-movie or TV guest appearance.

Dawn AddamsDawn Addams was a pretty leading lady of several romantic films of the 1950s, very much in the Audrey Hepburn-Shirley MacLaine gamin vein of that era (as opposed to the Marilyn Monroe-Jane Russell-Jayne Mansfield school). Educated in several countries, she moved to Hollywood in 1950, played several supporting role in films top-lining the likes of Spencer Tracy and Gene Tierney ("Plymouth Adventure" 1952) and David Niven and William Holden ("The Moon Is Blue" 1953) before attaining leading lady status. Probably her best known lead was opposite Charlie Chaplin in his satire "A King in New York" (1957), but she also acted in Fritz Lang's "The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse" (1960), in which the director revisited the character he had immortalized on film four decades earlier. Adda Ms also decorated a number of comedies and adventures made in France and Italy (e.g. "Secrets d'Alcove" 1954), but by the early 60s slipped to occasional supporting roles and later did British TV work.
