ENGLISH PAPER PIECED CLAMSHELL TUTORIAL STEP - BY - STEP TIP: I like to work on an Ironing Surface. Cut the fabric ¼” larger than the paper shape. Centre the shape onto the wrong side of the fabric. Using a sewline glue stick glue the top curved edge only. Press the edge over with you finger making sure there are no points on the curve. Do not fold the bottom curved edges over. Using Busyfingers Appliqué Glue place a few spots as shown. With right sides together sew a couple of stitches on top of each other where the paper ends. For making an all over clamshell quilt 1. Take a strip of fabric longer than your strip of clamshells 2. Press a fold line straight 2” down from the edge 3. Line the edge of the clamshells along the edge of the fold line. TIP: Glue baste into position and press. This will keep the row of clamshells straight and in turn this will keep the consecutive rows straight. Take another row and lay on top of the glued area lining up the points making sure they are in a straight line. Press. Using an appliqué stitch sew the edge of the clamshells to the edge of the previous row. This is how your clamshells should look as each row is pieced.
