The Warden’s Prize, value =85 5s., is awarded annually to the most profi- cient student of the first year. The Percy Prize is awarded for proficiency in German, and class prizes and certificates of honour are given in each class after examination. Stu- dents may reside within the College, where they will be pro- vided with rooms and board, and be under the supervision of the warden and resident tutors. Composition fee, 50 guineas. In the Arts Department, junior students are pre- pared for any of the preliminary examinations of the licensing boards. The practices of these hospitals are amalgamated for the purpose of clinical instruction under the direction of the Birmingham Clinical Board by whose order all sche- dules will be signed and all examinations conducted. The hospitals have a total of upwards of 400 beds. Special in- struction is given at the hospitals in the use of the micro- scope, laryngoscope, ophthalmoscope, in case-taking, and the art of prescribing. Practical Pharmacy is taught in the dispensaries of the hospitals. Appointments.-At the General Hospital: A Resident Medical Assistant, a Resident Surgical Assistant, and two Resident Dressers; tenable for six months. At the Queen’s Hospital: A Resident Medical Assistant, a Resi- dent Surgical Assistant, and a Resident Obstetric Assist- ant ; tenable for six months. Clinical prizes, of the value of £ 42, will be given annually. Fees for attendance for four years (the period required by the University of London, and the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons, &c.) on the Medical and Surgical Practice, and on the Clinical Lectures at both hospitals, X31 10s. All students will be required to attend six months alter- nately at each hospital, as they may be directed by the Clinical Board, excepting students who enter for six months only, who will be allowed to choose the hospital they wish to attend. ____ BRISTOL ROYAL INFIRMARY.-242 beds. Each physician appoints a clinical clerk without extra fee. Each pupil is required to pay an entrance fee to the infirmary of £ 5, and a subscription of .61 Is. per annum to the library, which numbers about 270() volumes, and contains most of the standard works on medi- cine and surgery, and also the medical periodicals. Prizes.-Suple prize : A gold medal, value .85 5s., with £7 7s. in money, is given annually to each of the two suc- cessful candidates in the medical and surgical examinations- Clark’s Prize : The interest of about X500 is given annually to the prizeman of the third year’s examination at the Bristol Medical School, if educated at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. BRISTOL GENERAL HOSPITAL.-140 beds. Medical or Surgical Practice: Six months, .86; one year, .810; per- petual, oB20. Library fee, £1 Is. per annum. Dressership or clinical clerkship, £5 5s. for six months. Two scholar- ships of .615 each are awarded annually, and a scholarship’ value .622 10s., founded by the late John Naish Sanders, Esq., for the encouragement of the study of medicine and surgery by pupils in the hospital. The interest of oB500 will be given to the prizeman of the third year, who shall have been educated at the infirmary, and can produce certificates of good conduct and moral character. ____ ADDENBROOKE’S HOSPITAL, CAMBRIDGE.-Clinical Lec- tures in Medicine and Surgery in connexion with the Cambridge Medical School, are delivered at this hospital twice a week during the academical year; and practical , instruction in Medicine and Surgery, in the wards, is given by the physicians and surgeons daily, during the vacations, as well as term time. LEEDS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE.-Attendance at the lectures of this school will confer the same qualifications for ex- amination as are obtained in the medical schools of London. The Hardwick Clinical Prize, value £ 10, is conferred annu- ally upon the most deserving student who exhibits a satis- factory proficiency in Clinical Medicine. The Surgeons" Clinical Prize, value .610, given by the surgeons of the hos- pital, is conferred annually on the most deserving student who exhibits proficiency in Clinical Surgery. In addition- to the Silver Medal awarded in Medical Jurisprudence, there is a prize of £ 10, for which a special examination is annually held. Practical Surgery and Practical Physiology are taught in accordance with the regulations of the Royal College of Surgeons. In the Infirmary there are six clinical clerk- ships and eight dresserships. Three resident assistants are chosen from the senior students; board and residence free. Besides the Infirmary there is a large Dispensary, and a Fever Hospital; both are in the town and open to studenta attending-the School. ____ LIVER:POOL ROYAL INFIRMARY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE: Four Exhibitions, value £31 10s. each, consisting of free board and residence in the Royal Infirmary for six months, with dresserships, on award of the Medical Board. Six dressers and six clinical clerks are elected quarterly. Pupils of the Infirmary are admitted to learn Pharmacy in the dispensing department for six months. The surgeons of’ the infirmary will award, in May, 1873, a Prize of the value of £5, for the best report of twelve surgical cases occurring in the infirmary. The hospital contains 300 beds, including wards, with 40 beds, for the treatment of diseases of women. The Lock Hospital adjoining contains 60 beds. ROYAL INFIRMARY, EDINBURGH.-Beds are set apart forclinical instruction by the professors of the University ofEdinburgh. Courses of Clinical Medicine and Surgery arealso given by the ordinary physicians and surgeons. Specialinstruction is given in the medical department on Diseasesof Women, Physical Diagnosis, &c., and in the surgicaldepartment on Diseases of the Eye. Separate wards aredevoted to fever, venereal diseases, diseases of women,diseases of the eye, also to cases of incidental delirium orinsanity. Post-mortem examinations are conducted in theAnatomical Theatre by the Pathologist, who also givespractical instruction in Pathological Anatomy and Histo-logy. Separate payments for two years entitle the student to aperpetual ticket. No fees are payable for any medical orsurgical appointment. The subordinate appointments areopen to all students and junior practitioners holding thehospital ticket during the period over which the appoint-ment extends. These appointments are as follows :-1.Resident physicians and surgeons are appointed, and livein the house free of charge. Candidates must be registeredas legally qualified practitioners.
