English- Summer Term- Week 5 For English this week, we have provided the following activities: 1. The story of The Lighthouse Keeper’s lunch and sandwich making. 2. A writing task. 3. A SPaG sheet. 4. Spelling work. Task 1: Watch the video of Mrs Gallivan reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. Think: Who is your favourite character and why? What would you have done if you were Mr Grinling? What do you think the seagulls will do next? Now, plan and design your own sandwich recipe. Think about the type of bread you will use, the different fillings that could go inside and how you will cut your sandwiches up. The possibilities are endless! If your family are able to get the bread and fillings you have planned, try making your sandwich for lunch one day. Yum! Task 2: Writing Now you can write instructions for someone else to follow, and make your sandwich. Remember: Write a title for your instructions. Start with- ‘You will need’. Then write the instructions in order by numbering them. Use time words such as; first of all, then, next, after that, finally. Use bossy verbs to make your instructions clear- put, chop, spread, cut etc. Try using adverbs such as, carefully, gently, generously, sparingly, to make your instructions even more detailed. Read your writing to check it makes sense.
