STRUCTURED RESPONSE

HOW TO SCORE 10/10 MARKS1) Read the construct. Do not look at the question.2) Read the question until the end. Take notice of the WH question.3) Write short answer. This is not Reading Comprehension. 4) Make sure the spelling and capitalization are correct. 5) Always take note the form of word you copy. Whether it is

singular, adjective, noun or verb.

READING COMPREHENSION

1) For this section you have at least 50 minutes.2) Read the questions starting from the Summary. This will help you to

predict what the text about. 3) Then, read the text. 4) If you have a problem with the wording, don’t worry. Just read on. 5) You can guess the meaning of the word by reading the word or

sentence before and after. Make a guess.6) What’s important is for you to understand what the text is about.

7) If it is a story, underline the verbs/doing words the character did from one to another. This will help you with summary later on.8) If it is an article of process, underline the process one by one including advices.9) If it is an article of pro and cons, underline the pro and cons but not the examples.

10) Read the question. The paragraph mention will indicate from where the answer can be found. 11) Always take notice of the WH questions.

- What = Apa (Benda) - Why = Kenapa (Sebab)- Who = Siapa (Orang) - How = Bagaimana (Cara)- Where = Mana (Tempat)

12) It will also leave a clue through wording.

Most of the time, you can lift your answer straight away from the text but

REMEMBERa) DO NOT WRITE WORDS THAT ARE NOT RELEVANT to the question.b) b) MAKE SURE THE GRAMMAR IS CORRECT10) For the last question, usually wants Ss using own words.

Just CHANGE a FEW WORDS into WORDS THAT HAVE the SAME MEANING.

The thick black smoke is being released to the air every Friday as it is unfiltered. This brings to a lot of breathing problems to the villagers.

Beside the format, always remember the audience. Who are you and the essay is for whom. This is because different audience will bring different tones. For example,• a letter to a friend describing what you did during the holiday would be different to a letter to your mother asking her to let you go for a trip• an article to the newspaper would be different to an article in the school magazine.

WHY these essays are the ones easiest for you to write and score?• A story is not as boring as an article• If, you don’t have any ideas, you can use ideas from novels, magazines or sample essays that you read or from movies, drama or advertisement you watch or from songs that you listen to.• Usually, there would be at least 3 questions that are for these types of essay.

In order to get good grades of more than 30 marks over 50, all of your simple sentence structure must be grammatically correct. Simple sentence does not mean a very short sentence like below. “The book is in the drawer.” or “The flowers smells nice.” or “My family have never been able to agree.” or“A love letter was slipped under the door.”

- write which novel you going to write about - write which character/theme/plot you going to write about.

ii) Para 2 - 4 – Content/Body - For each reason, one paragraph at least

iii) Last Para – Conclusion - confirm with your choice and how the character/theme/moral value teaches you a lesson how to survive.
