Enhancing Water Quality Analysis through HERE
2012 Exchange Network National MeetingPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania
Session #10 Phase Two II
Thursday, May 31, 2012
The Gulf States have experienced unprecedented natural disasters that have amplified the need for remote and intuitive access to environmental data during emergency response and recovery efforts. These scenarios have also resulted in massive and long term remediation challenges, as pollution from hurricane inflicted devastation and flooding have resulted
in ongoing health risks.
This project will allow emergency management officials and water
quality stewards the ability to view and analyze ambient water quality information in relation to potential
and actual sources of contamination, and sensitive communities and
habitats, and to track water quality conditions over time.
• Build so that we can continue to leverage– GOMA– Oil Spill– Other co-managed waterbodies
• Sharing of data– Automated, multi-organizational data sharing– Compile and analyze water data + source data
• Leverage what was already built– Reuse of HERE data aggregation and access tools – Reuse of WQX Standardized Data Format (Schema)– Reuse of WQX viewer functionality
• Free software that aggregates ‘environmental’ data
• Automatic, frequent data updates
• Laptop cached data to support disconnected use
• Access to both facility and water quality data• Expands modes of operation
– Response – Recovery– Water quality analysis– Potential contaminant sources
