On the Block and Making a DifferenceBy: LOLa SearCy
We’re back! This weekbegins anew the “On theBlock and Making a
Difference” feature. In our “Onthe Block and Making aDifference” segments, we high-light Preachers, Pastors andCommunity Leaders who aremaking a difference in theirChurch, the lives of their parish-ioners and the communitieswhere they live and Pastor. Thisweek our spotlight is on Rev.R.O. Moffett. For the past 16years, this native of Winnsboro,Louisiana has given spiritualleadership to the New LeafMissionary Baptist Church.Under Pastor Moffett’s leadershipthe church membership hasgrown from approximately fif-teen members to over five hun-dred members! And so, whenwe chose him as our “On the Blockand Making a Difference” recipient,it was what has members and
those in the community had to sayabout him and his work in the com-munity that makes him worthy ofbeing honored this week.
Pastor Moffett – first and fore-most is a man who lives and dwellson Scripture and is a true man of
prayer. He prays consistently forthe congregation, he teaches thepeople to live by the word of Godand through Christ like behavior.
He is accountable and trustwor-thy. He preaches fulltime, hegoes to visit the sick and shut in,he never turns away a stranger, and he is kind and giving, a pas-tor of discipline and discipleship. In August 2006, Pastor Moffett
implemented a program calledthe Back to School Block Party. This program was created toassist the children in the com-munity. The program wasdesigned to give back to thecommunity and help the familieswho were not able to purchaseuniforms and school supplies fortheir children. The program is inthe 4th year of existence. UnderPastor Moffett’s leadership theprogram has been a great suc-cess. The church helps over a
hundred families each year. In June 2006, Pastor Moffett

Isaiah 40:29-31“He givesstrength tothe weary andincreases thepower of theweak. Evenyouths growtired andweary, andyoung menstumble andfall; but those
who hope in the Lord will renewtheir strength. They will soar onwings like eagles; they will runand not grow weary, they willwalk and not be faint.”
In every situation, we have thosewhom we consider weak and thosewhom we consider strong. We all
have somewhat different criteria thatwe use to come to this conclusion. Thisis generally referred to as “our stan-dards” If someone does not measureup to your standards, you considerthem weak. What does this automati-cally imply? Yes, that we who have set
the standards, are the strong. I canpoke holes in this whole system, butfor the sake of this message let us con-sider that your standards are the rightones and that everyone else that doesnot measure up to those standards, isweak.
Let us take a look at what Godsays from the standpoint of you beingthe strong one! God views the weak asobjects of His special love and care andexpects men and women to extendlove and concern towards them, aswell. God, Himself is there to givestrength to those who are weak.Physically, but more importantly God isthere to strengthen the spirituallyweak, if you would only cry out to Himand let Him work in your lives. Amen!
Isaiah 40:29-31 says, “He givespower to the weak, And to those whohave no might He increases strength.Even the youths shall faint and beweary, and the young men shall utter-ly fall, but those who wait on the LordShall renew their strength; they shallmount up with wings like eagles. Theyshall run and not be weary. They shallwalk and not faint. Amen!
2nd Corinthians 12:9 says, And He
said to me, “My grace is sufficient foryou, for My strength is made perfect inweakness. Therefore most gladly I willrather boast in my infirmities that thepower of Christ may rest upon me.”Amen!
Isaiah 53:6 says, “All we like sheephave gone astray. We have turned, every one, to his own way; and theLord has laid on Him the iniquity of usall.” Sin weakened us all, spirituallyindeed. We were even weakened untodeath. God looked down on mankind’sstate and in His love, His mercy, Hiscare and concern, gave us a new lifeand new strength in Him. God’s wordexplicitly describes how we are to treatthose who are weaker than we are.We, as God’s children, need to emulateGod in all of His ways. As God showedmercy, love, and concern for the weakit is only fitting that we, who arestrong, also show mercy, love, andconcern for our spiritually weak fellowman.
Romans 15:1-2, “We then who arestrong ought to bear with the scruplesof the weak, and not to please our-selves. Let each of us please his neigh-bor for his good, leading to edification.”
Amen! We are not in a jungle atmosphere
because we left that mind-set when weleft the world. Survival of the fittest is alaw of Darwin it is a law of the flesh itis a law with no hope and no help. We,as Christians live under a law of love, alaw that frees others as we have beenfreed. It is a law of hope, in ChristJesus. Amen!
The weakest of us can be givensupport, encouragement, help, andeventually Eternal Life! Let us remem-ber the proposition. God is the sametoday as He was back then God stillcharges the “shepherds” the leaders ofthe flock with the same amount of loveand concern as He did back then.
We can readily see that the leader-ship has a special charge to care forthe weak but what about the rank-and-file what about you? God does notleave anyone out of the picture we areto all care for, strengthen, uplift andlove those who may be spirituallyweaker than ourselves.

Eight players from the Dallas – Ft.Worth area will be playing on thebiggest stage in their football careers.
The list includes Dallas Carter’s own,Jonathan Scott, SMU’s Emmanuel Sanders, and Daniel Sepulveda of Highland Parkhead the list of locals representing thePittsburgh Steelers.
Ennis’ Graham Harrell, Josh Bell ofSkyline, Dimitri Nance of Euless Trinity,Marshall Newhouse of Lake Highlands andCharlie Peprah of Plano East High Schoolwill make their Super Bowl debut with theGreen Bay Packers.
Jonathan Scott will make his firstSuper Bowl appearance with the PittsburgSteelers. Scott is an Offensive Tackle whoplayed college football with the Universityof Texas Longhorns, with Coach BruceChambers (former Dallas Carter HeadFootball Coach). This is Jonathan’s 4th sea-son in the NFL, after being drafted in the
5th round in the 2006 NFL draft by theDetroit Lions. He was often sidetracked byinjuries and never really had an opportuni-ty to play in Detroit for the Lions.Frustrated with his injuries, the Lions trad-ed Jonathan in 2008 to the Buffalo Bills.
Scott was signed as a free agent bythe Buffalo Bills. He spent 2008 & 2009with the Bills. He didn’t play in any gamesin 2008, but in 2009 he started 8 games asthe Bills’ offensive line was hit with a rashof injuries. Scott missed several gamesthat season himself due to recurring ankleinjuries. The Steelers signed Jonathan dur-ing the off season.
Jonathan will replace Max Starks in thestarting line up in the Super Bowl game.Steelers’ new offensive line Coach SeanKugler, who worked with Jonathan when heplayed for the Buffalo Bills made the call tostart Jonathan ahead of Starks and hehopes that during Super Bowl XLV, we willfinally see who the real Jonathan Scott is.
Also making his Super Bowl debut is
Graham Harrell. Harrell hails from thiswriter’s hometown of Ennis, Texas. Harrellplayed QB at Ennis High and led his teamto two 4A State Championships in 2001 and2002; all the while setting and breakingnearly every record held by a High SchoolQuarterback in the country.
Harrell played his college football atTexas Tech University under the legendaryMike Leach and Dallas Carter Receiver andnow San Francisco 49er, another DallasCarter standout, Michael Crabtree, who wason the receiving end of most of the touch-down passes Harrell threw. While at Tech,Harrell continued to break and set recordsas a college Quarterback. Graham finished4th in the Heisman voting in 2009. Hespent his first year in the Canadian Leagueplaying with the SaskatchewanRoughriders. The Packers signed Harrell totheir practice squad in May of 2010.
We want to wish all of these guysGood Luck! And, I’m not telling who I wantto win Super Bowl XLV!
By: JOrDan BLair anD LOLa SearCy
The 2011 Super Bowl Party is aboutto begin. Were you invited? I knowyou are all thinking about the usual
Super Bowl parties where you go out tothe different venues and watch the SuperBowl game on huge television screensand root for your favorite team to win.But that’s not the Super Bowl party I’mtalking about. I’m talking about the eco-nomic party that will be going on overthe next two weeks when Super BowlXLV comes to the Dallas Ft. Worth area. And the “you” I’m talking about are theAfrican American business men andwomen, companies and corporations.
How many African American vendorswill take part in one of the biggest eco-nomic boosts to hit the North Texas areain decades? It is estimated that approx-imately $600 million dollars or more willbe pumped into the economy over the
coming weeks. But how many AfricanAmerican businesses will benefit fromSuper Bowl XLV being hosted in the DFWarea? I know that there were severalworkshops being held as early asFebruary 2010 all across the Dallas-FtWorth area to help women and minoritybusiness owners win contracts for SuperBowl XLV.
Overall, nearly 2,000 minority andwomen business owners showed up forthe free workshops held at ArlingtonStadium and the Fort Worth Stockyards. There were opportunities for contractorsand subcontractors for staffing, cleaning, photography, entertainment, paintingand many other services.
When the announcement was madethat Super Bowl XLV was coming toCowboys stadium, I immediately thoughtof the economic impact it would have onthe metroplex. Living in a small town just40 miles or so from the Cowboys stadi-
um, I envisioned the hotels in my smalltown overflowing with visitors who didnot have the funds to stay in hotels in thearea. But when last I checked, none ofthem were full to capacity by visitorsattending the Super Bowl, it’s still early,so maybe within the next week, hotelrooms will start to fill up.
But then my thoughts turned towardmy experience when I was blessed toattend the inauguration of PresidentBarack Obama. There were so many “lit-tle guys” on the streets of Washington,DC selling their merchandise to the mil-lions who came to celebrate. I remem-ber the little guys who sold t-shirts, caps, key chains, wrist bands, visors, all kindsof things.
I remember that on every corner, there were opportunities for the ‘little”guys to make a profit. I wonder how

Almost a year ago, PastorMoffett was approached to partner-ship with other churches to workwith a program called TheMetropolitan Dream Center. Theprogram was created to clothe andfeed the homeless. This is an issuePastor Moffett has been workingwith for over 14 years since the firstday he walked into New LeafMissionary Baptist Church. Thechurch has been feeding the home-less in the community and workingwith the Homeowners Associationdeveloping ways of assisting thepeople who are less fortunate.Pastor Moffett’s motto, “it might betheir time this time, but it might be

community to try to reach theunreachable. He is very committedto our young people andespecially our young men.He is reaching the youngmen of the church by hav-ing the DeaconMentorships, by partneringthem as soon as they joinchurch. His goal is to keepthem actively involved inchurch, and surrounded bypositive reinforcement aswell as in a positive envi-ronment. Also, teachingthem how to be men, howto become men, by supporting theirfamilies, becoming proactive, andputting God first in their life; sosays Audrey Dones, ExecutiveAdministrative Assistant at the New
Leaf Church.Pastor Moffet makes time for
anyone in his congregation. If Ichose one word, I would say he is
accessable. His love for his congre-gation is exemplary, which is theexample of the love of Jesus, whose love is supreme. He’s a giver. He gives encouragement during the
good times “congratulations onyour promotion at work” or in badtimes “let’s all lift one another upbecause it is their time now, it verywell could be your time next.” Hehas opened the doors of the churchfor countless funerals to membersand friends who need him regard-less of their situation. He is anexample in faith, shaping his lifeand decisions on the certainty ofJesus’ love, lordship, sovereignty, and goodness. His devotion speaksvolumes to what God can do inyour life if you choose to let him. Iwill always admire the willingnessand energy he devotes to hischurch, said Tammy Fleming, NewLeaf Member and AdministrativeAssistant to Pastor Moffett. Do we really take God at HisWord? We say we do, but dowe really, totally believe whatGod says will eventually cometrue? Well, we do not act likewe do, because if we reallytake God at His word, wewould not do some of thethings that we do. The reasonwhy I say that is because I ama prime example, and that iswhy I was a non-believer forso long. In other words that iswhy I remained in the world ofsin not knowing, and not wanting toknow God, because I did not take God atHis word. I heard my mother talk aboutthe joy of Jesus Christ. I read about it inSunday School all my childhood days.I’ve heard preachers preach about thejoy God will give, but I did not reallybelieve that is because I was never bap-tized until I reached the age of forty-two.I did not think that anything could topthe good times, and the fun I was hav-ing in the street of Dallas. I thought Iwas at the epitome of fun, and that isjust what it was FUN. I did not thinkthings could get any better that it was atthe time in my life, but I had never expe-rienced joy until I met the Lord JesusChrist. After I met Jesus I found JOY andyou know it is a funny thing about JOY,you can’t explain it no matter how muchyou try. All you can do is tell somebodyhow to get it, but you cannot explain to
anybody about it. All you can tell them isthat you found complete JOY in Jesus
Christ. They have to get itfor themselves. After experi-encing the joy I would notgive it up for any amount o fmoney. When you have JOYyou will be able to do greatthings in God’s name. Youremember when Peter andJohn went down to Samaria(Acts 8:14-18) and Simonthe soceror asked Peter andJohn to sell him some of thispower or magic. Now, whenI became a Christian I
began to understand why a sinner wouldnot take God at His word. Men of Godoften get caught up in traps, becausethey go through the motion of takingGod at His word, but in some instancesthey really don’t, but we as Christiansmust learn to take God at His word. There are some people we read about inthe Bible who did not take God at Hisword. Take Adam for instance, He reallydid not take God at His word when Godtold him if he ate of the forbidden fruithe would surely die. After Adam sinned.God made it plain that to please Him ormake atonement for your sins, theremust be the shedding of blood. Well Abeland Cain understood this, but Cainoffered up fruits and vegetables whichwas good, but not acceptable for sin,and that is why God turned his offeringdown, but accepted Abel’s offering. Caindid not take God at His word. Don’t yoube a fool enough to believe that if youwant something, just believe hardenough and you will have it. This is notfaith. Faith is taking God at His word. Itis believing and acting on what God hasrevealed. Joy is inward, a response toman fulfilling his creation purpose of fel-lowship with God, and how can man ful-fill his creation purpose? By “Taking Godat His Word”. As Christians we say webelieve God’s word. Do we really?
Let us remember to read our Bibles. MayGod bless you REAL GOOD, and may Heever keep you in His loving care.

Out of the Eyes of a LaymanFrom the Mount
To quote ZigZiglar, "Peopleoften say that
motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that'swhy we recommend it daily."
“Loyalty Is Worth It’s Weight In Gold! It Covers A Multitude Of Weaknesses.”Happy New Year!Debra’s January 2011 Words Of Wisdom
Lighten up. Take in some fresh air and sunlight. Face challenges eagerly. Look through the eyes of appreciation. Relish adventure. Forgive your par-ents and cut yourself some slack. Make someone happy. Never be disheartened. Re-invent. Reach. Risk. Refuse, resist and re-use. Walk the dog.
Surrender. Do not wait for a better world. Dance with the stars. Let it go. Expect the best. Know all difficulties in your life have purpose.
Words of
Wisdom
All forgive-ness beginswith a belief
that God desiresus to forgive inany situation; "Ifyou do not for-give men theirsins, your Fatherwill not forgiveyour sins" (Mat-thew 6:15). I'mnot sure how tofully interpretthis verse, butone thing weknow...our call
to forgive is serious! If we are unable, orunwilling, to forgive we need to spendmore time reflecting on the forgivenessof Christ. Do we really understand? Dowe really believe? Our ability to forgiveidentifies our focus: Is our priority onChrist or on our own needs and desires, hurts and pain?
But forgiveness is not simply sayingthe words "I forgive you." Rather, for-giveness is canceling the emotionaldebt. It means we love and earnestlypray for blessings in the other person'slife; "Love your enemies and pray forthose who persecute you" (Matthew5:44). We should be able to think aboutthe other person without bitterness, rage, or anger. We should be able topray for an increase in their ministry orbusiness, more peace in their family, anda closer relationship with Jesus. It'samazing how much healing takes placein our own heart when we sincerely prayfor those who have caused us pain.
However, forgiveness does not nec-essarily mean a relationship must con-tinue as if the hurt never occurred. Ourheart may be free of all anger and bit-terness - we may earnestly pray for theone who caused us pain - and yet, weno longer trust or enjoy their company. My forgiveness of a child abuser doesnot require me to leave my children intheir care. I can love with a Christ-likelove and pray without anger and yetguard my physical body and emotionaland spiritual heart. We must trust Godto guide our steps in this area.
It's unfortunate, but most of us arecarrying some bitterness toward anoth-er person today. These burdensomeemotions should not continue in theheart of a Child of God, and the onlyroad to release them is through the gateof forgiveness. Let's ask God to purifyour heart. Let's refocus on the cross andrelease our burdens to Him. Let's honorour Father by showing the world what itmeans to forgive.

What It Means to Forgive Now that we have employed hrSchool of Thought that Moses gaveus in order for us to be victorious in
our Christian walk, and that is “FearNot, Stand Still andSee the Salvationof the Lord”. Let’sshine a little lighton the Nature ofGod. 1 John 1:5tells us that “God islight, and in him isdarkness at all”.Because God isaltogether Holyand Righteous, Hiswill for us can onlybe good. If we canbe in the center ofthat will, “Good-ness and Mercyshall follow us allthe days of our
lives”. It is a good thing to know also, that when we enter into our PrayerCloset or entering into another trail ortest that we are serving a God who is analways-present person. The Psalmist hassaid, “Where shall I go from thy pres-ence? If I ascend up into heaven, thouart there. If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wingsof the morning and dwell in the utter-most parts of the sea; even there shallthy hand lead me, and thy right handshall hold me.” Psalm 139: 7-10
Dear Dr. Hollie,I recently allowed myfriend to move into myhome with her two kids. With my family, thatmakes eight of us in myfour-bedroom home. Iknew from the begin-ning that we were goingto be cramped so I'mnot really having prob-lems with that. What Iam having a problemwith, though, is herchildren. I love thesekids, but they are bad, well, they're really bad. But she'snot really able to control them, andwhen I say something about theiractions or behavior, she gets her lit-tle feelings hurt. She is in my homebecause she lost her job, then herhouse before she could land anotherjob. I do not want to throw her out, yet, because she really is doing herbest to get back on her feet. Butthose kids! I've never been comfort-able spanking other people's kids,
but regular punishments and talksdon't work. Give me somesuggestions, please, on howto make our living situationmore comfortable for every-one.Full House
Dear Full House,I hope that you all have adeadline set for her to leave,if not, set one. Two months
would be realistic.Knowing that they have anexpected time of exitshould help you. Next, set
some boundaries and suggest theyhave regular outside outings, i.e. thezoo, the park. By no means shouldyou take the responsibility to disci-pline these children other than gen-eral corrections.

Celebrate the New Year with a Resolution to Improve Academic Performance Jan. 2011
The traditionalNew Year’sresolution can
be a powerful toolfor parents to helptheir children im-prove school per-formance. There isno magic involvedin getting the mostout of a resolution. It is a matter ofsetting goals, fol-lowing throughwith small stepsuntil they become
habits, and celebrating successes, no mat-ter how modest, along the way.
Parents may want to try these helpfulstrategies to help their children developpositive habits that will make the secondsemester of school, and perhaps the rest oftheir educational career, a more successfulexperience.
1. Review the first semester. Involvethe student in identifying what went well
and why, and what did not work so well.2. Expand on the list of what worked
well. Help the student see how practiceslike stuffing his or her backpack and put-ting it by the door each evening beforebed ensure that homework actually getsturned in.
3. List practices that did not yield pos-itive results. Bridge to the positive byevaluating how a few simple changesmight turn those poor habits into bestpractices.
4. Ask the teachers for suggestions. They know how to help your child be abetter student. One of the most power-ful strategies might be announcing theresolution and enlisting others in helpingto ensure accountability. Doing this willalso let your child’s teacher know youand your student are committed toimprovement.
5. Set at least 3 goals for the newsemester. Break them into simplesteps. Write these steps down on a largesheet of paper and post it in a prominentlocation. Challenge your student to visitthe list regularly and check each goal to
indicate how faithfully he or she is fol-lowing them.
Make a weekly commitment to sit withyour child to revisit the list to help stay oncourse. Encourage honesty in evaluatinghow well your child is practicing the newhabits. Don’t be afraid to modify the plan orbreak down the steps even further if youthink it will be helpful. Remember to cele-brate successes and have a real conversa-tion with your child about why things are oraren’t working.
To show you appreciate how challeng-ing change can be, make a plan to changesome habit of your own. Post it publicly, faithfully marking it to show your ownprogress. The pencil sharpener inventorwas none other than blackinventor John Lee Love. JohnLee Love's invention was avery simple and portable pen-cil sharpener. The same kindof pencil sharpener that manyartists use or that can befound in an office or schoolroom. In John Lee Love'sinvention the pencil is put intothe opening of the sharpenerand rotated by hand. It wasdesigned so that the shavings
would stay inside the sharpen-er. It is interesting to note thatwhile the patent drawingdepicts the Love Sharpener asbeing quite plain. John LeeLove wrote that it could alsobe designed in a very ornatefashion and that his pencilsharpener could also be usedas a desk ornament or paper-weight. John Lee Love's pencilsharpener was patented onNovember 23, 1897 (U.S.Patent #594,114).

This is an his-toric time inthe Metro-
plex. Aside fromthe first Super-Bowl the Hall ofFame committeewill pick the classof 2011.
Right now 15finalists remain.
They will select and have selected theseguys because of their ability to battle theodds and come from behind and win. If Iwould make a list of qualities it takes toget in the Hall, the ability to come frombehind would be number one.
That’s the ending to sports moviesthat everyone loves. The book endingthat endears people to sports books, notjust books and movies that’s just the oldAmerican feel good story. Rocky, Rudyetc., Iowa Jima those type events andmovies always leave us with warm feel-ing.
The Hall of Fame is loaded with guyslike Roger Staubach, John Elway, and JoeMontana. Those last minute heroics gotmore people in the Hall than the flat outability to play.
In Dallas we were privileged to seeprobably the greatest high school sprint-er this country has produced in RoyMartin. And when Roy’s name comes upthe topic is always his ability to comefrom behind, and believe me he did itplenty of times. That’s a topic for anoth-er day.
If I made another list of the worsthabits, that characteristic would be num-
ber one. Getting behind continually is andwill always be the worst habit. Did JohnElway not know when those games start-ed? Joe Montana did your team not payyou for the 1st quarter? Roger did yourcontract omit the first part of the game?
Sometimes in the effort to comefrom behind the distance can be so greatbefore you desire to play the other teamor player has finished. In all cases this isnot how true circumstance can put you inposition to have an up hill fight. And thatshould be the time to do that – not everygame or every race. In following JohnElway’s career you would think some ofthose games started with John behind. Atone point I thought those games werescripted. There is and old philosophy Isubscribe to: “If you can’t keep up youcan’t catch up.”
The two teams coming here nextweek fought off late rallies to win thererespective championships.
I’m going out on a limb and pickingunderdog Pittsburgh to win their 3rdSuper-Bowl in 6 years. Although I thinkthe Steelers have a good enough team towin, I don’t dare bet against a team likethe Steelers. When as far back as thebeginning of the Super-Bowl era, TheFranco Harris reception, the phantomBenny Barnes interference and theincomplete pass that was called a fumbleagainst the Jets this year. The Steelershave yet to win a championship that did-n’t have a disputed game changing call.
I’ll go farther out on that limb andsay this game will be no different. Therewill be a game changing call that will givethe Steelers the game.

Do you everw o n d e rwhy you
are here? Whyyou were born?In our churchschool lesson theProphet Isaiahdeclares that theLord called himbefore he wasborn, from with-in the womb
God called him by name (What if hehad been aborted) “The servant’sMission in the world” Isaiah 49:1-6.Everyone that comes into the worldcame for a purpose but many live a lifetime and never find their purpose. They know something is missing a voidthat they cannot fill; they turn to alco-hol, drugs, and other vices to fill thevoid that only God can fill. AlthoughIsaiah knew his purpose and God hadcalled him to be a Prophet he experi-enced difficulties. In spite of the prob-
lems we may face if we have God onour side we can with confidence say “Iwill leave it in the Lord’s hands; I willtrust God for my reward. Our missionin this world as Christians is to let ourlight shine that men may see our goodworks and glorify our father in heaven. Our morning message was deliveredby Pastor Lloyd Morgan from the sub-ject “God’s search for a Man” Jer5:1.This being our Annual Men’s daythe pastor challenged our men to striveto be the man that could save a city.Have you noticed how quick peopledevalue things and relationships? Howquick we are to “Get use to things andpeople” and then we began to takethem for granted? This is what hap-pened to Israel they forgot the value ofhaving Jehovah as their God. Have youbeen saved so long that you now takeGod for granted? Have “Grace” madeyou ungrateful? The divine idea of aman is one that loves the Lord, exe-cute judgment, and seek truth.God Bless!

many “little” guys will be allowed to selltheir wares on the streets of Arlington andFt. Worth during Super Bowl XLV. Howmany African American and minority smallbusiness owners who attended the work-shops, meetings, etc., were actually award-ed contracts? And if they were not able tosecure a contract, will they be able to selltheir products on the streets of downtownArlington and Ft. Worth. It would be veryinteresting to see just how many AfricanAmerican, Women and Minority businesseswere awarded contracts. And just howmuch of an economic impact did SuperBowl XLV have on the minority businessesin the area?
Fort Worth has already stated thatstreet vendors would not be able to selltheir wares on the streets during the SuperBowl. Oh, and by the way, if you are think-ing about selling some of your goods atJerry’s World, don’t even think about it. I remember attending the Super Bowl inNew Orleans and Houston. It was just likethe inauguration. All the little people got achance to share in the economic prosperi-ty. Why does that not seem to be happen-
ing here in Dallas? One vendor, whoattended all the workshops and obtained acertification, still didn’t get an opportunityat any of the business. The NFL and thebig boys brought in vendors that they haveused for years from around the country, butif the NFL did use a local vendor, and thatlocal vendor had a restaurant, the NFLleased their kitchen or facility - but pastthat, not a lot of other opportunities. So letme ask the question again, were you invit-ed to the Super Bowl party? The last timeI looked, how many events took placeSouth of I30 in the Oak Cliff area pertain-ing to the Super Bowl.
Thank God for TheUltimateSuperBowlWeek.com that’s bringing athletes andcelebrities to the southern sector so thatthe African American kids will get a chanceto see them and interact with them moreso than on television. Thanks for thosewho are looking out for our community andthe kids.
That’s just our opinion. What’s yours? We want to hear from you. Send yourcomments to [email protected], [email protected].
