Towada-jinja ShrineAccording to the old legend,Tow-ada-jinja Shrine was estab-lished by shogun,Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in 807,and current-ly enshrines Yamato Takeru no Mikoto.It is regarded as the home of the water spirit and the blue dragon spirit.

Towada-Seiryuu-Gongensya (The small shrine for the blue dragon)

A water-god "Towada-Seiryuu-Gongen" is being deified.Seiryuu-Daigongen (the blue dragon) is a guardian god of Lake Towada for a long time, and he is the god of the Towa-da-belief spread in the northern Tohoku area.It is said that he can make every kind of wish come true, such as a wish of trouble extinc-tion, good harvest and promotion, etc.

The Statue of MaidensThe Symbol of Lake TowadaThis statue was made by the poet and sculptor; Kotaro Takamura.Two maidens express each side of the isosceles trian-gle, and this triangle means infinity. There is also one rumor that the heart pattern is seen in a footing.

Kodakara treeThrough the path of good luck, it becomes visible on the way to Towa-da-jinja Shrine single sacred tree. People throw their coin at the hole of the sacred tree and pray for an easy delivery & to be blessed with children.

Ebisu Island & Daikoku IslandAt the front island, Daikoku (a God of wealth) is being deified, Ebisu, a God of fishery and business, is being deified at the back island. It is said that your wish comes true when you throw a coin to the islands from the lake’s edge and it reaches.

Nanso-Den (The small shrine for Nanso-no-bou)

Kumano Jinja(The incarnation of the God of Kumano. Kumano is the huge Buddhism party in Wakayama prefecture)

Nanso-no-bou, who was the hero in Edo era and entered the lake to meet Buddha, is deified.It is said that, if you pray here, it will be possible to be born at your ideal world in next time.

It was a god of a victory originally, but recent-ly, it is the God of the recovery from every sick, and people praised it as the God of flood control from that strong image.

It is said that Nanso-no-bou, a priest, went around the whole country in Japan after he trained himself at a mountain in Kumano. It is intended to have a share of luck from Nanso-no-bou, there is a custom that people offer Japanese old-style sandals which is made with iron and latten, to this shrine, and they wish safety travel & a good walk.

Uranai-ba is the best spir itua l place in Lake Towada as mentioned above.It is sa id that i f you fold up the “Oyori-gami paper” that you can buy at Towada Shrine and t h r ow i t i n t o t he l a ke , you r w i sh w i l l b e fulfilled.※Currently， the ladder that is the only route to go down to Uranai-ba is closed. So please take a motorboat or canoe to get there or try throwing “oyori-gami paper” from Gozengaha-ma waterfront.
