Exploring science in acon, students build organs and ssues on a skeletal manikin, work through interesng real world cases and oſten play the role of biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries. This course may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS. PLTW Medical Intervenons Honors: Medical Intervenons is the third course for the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program for high school students. In the Medical Intervenons course, students will invesgate the variety of intervenons involved in the prevenon, diagnosis and treatment of disease as they follow the lives of a ficous family. Lifestyle choices and prevenve measures are emphasized throughout the course as well as the important role scienfic thinking and engineering design play in the development of intervenons of the future.

Automotive Technology

Intro Trans/Dis/Log: Introduction to Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics is a foundation course that covers a broad industry sector responsible for managing the flow of goods, information, and people between a point of origin and a point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of consumers. Offered 3rd and 4th blocks during the Spring Semester. Become ASE certified following Automotive III and passage of the national exam!

Biomedical Science (Students may be eligible for dual credit weighting for all these courses based upon the state’s criteria)

PLTW Principles of Biomedical Sciences Honors: Principles of Biomedical Sciences is a foundation course for the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences program for high school students. This course provides an introduction to the biomedical sciences through exciting hands-on projects and problems. Business/Finance

Accounting 1: Accounting 1 develops an understanding of the concepts, principles, and practices necessary in the preparation and maintenance of financial records concerned with business management and operations. Students are exposed to the accounting cycle, cash control systems, payroll, and careers in accounting. Finish Entrepreneurship and Marketing or Banking Services and Business Finance to be a CTE Completer!

Banking Services: This course is designed to offer a unique approach to understanding the banking services. It provides an introduction to banking services and functions, history and purpose of banking, money and interest, deposits in banking, negotiable instruments, bank loans, mortgages, specialized bank services, promoting the bank, security and ethics, and careers in banking. Finish Accounting 1 and Business Finance to be a CTE Completer!

Business Finance: Business Finance provides students with an understanding of how corporations, organizations, and businesses handle money. Concepts include the management of money, accounting methodologies, investing strategies, and effective financial management. Finish Accounting 1 and Banking Services to be a CTE Completer!

Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop an effective business plan for small business ownership. An important part of the course will be the incorporation of economics, ethics, legal aspects, logistics, research, staffing, strategies for financing, and technology. This is the first course for many Business programs.

Computer Science

AP Computer Science Applications: This course introduces computer science through programming, including topics in the design of solutions to problems, use of data structures to organize large sets of data, development and implementation of algorithms to process data and discover new information, analysis of potential solutions, and ethical and social implications of computing systems. The course emphasizes object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language. Complete AP Computer Science Principles and PLTW Cybersecurity to receive national PLTW/AP recognition!

AP Computer Science Principles: This course develops the computational thinking skills vital for success across all disciplines, such as using computational tools to analyze and study data and working with large data sets to analyze, visualize, and draw conclusions from trends. The course emphasizes creative problem solving, and effective communication and collaboration skills. Written assignments address the impact of technological solutions on community, society, and the world. Complete AP Computer Science Applications and PLTW Cybersecurity to receive national PLTW/AP recognition!

Fundamentals of Web Page Design and Development: Fundamentals of Web Page Design guides students in the development of websites in a project-based, problem-solving environment. Students will learn the industry standard languages, HTML and CSS, which are used in every website on the web today. Students will learn how to create a portfolio of content-rich, well-styled websites. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for industry certification.

Game Design and Development: Game Design and Development provides students with the opportunity to design and develop fully- functional video games with product design documentation. This course emphasizes game control and logic, design tools, and the physics of games using computer programming.

Networking Fundamentals: Networking Fundamentals provides students with classroom, laboratory, and hands-on experience in current and emerging networking technologies. Upon successful completion of the course sequence in the networking major to include PLTW Cybersecurity, students will be able to seek employment or further their education and training in the information technology field.

Engineering (Students may be eligible for dual credit weighting for all these courses based upon the state’s criteria)

PLTW Aerospace Engineering Honors: This project-based learning course engages students who are curious about aviation and aerospace careers. This course will introduce students to an engineering design process, tools to collect and analyze data, the science of aviation, materials and structures, and safety. Students will participate in real-world experiences such as designing, building and testing a pilot seat, kite, straw rocket and launcher, motor-powered rocket, and a model glider.

PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture Honors: Students learn important aspects of building and site design and development, applying math, science, and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects. Students document designs using 3D architecture design software. Some students have seen these designs come to life through partnerships with local housing organizations.

PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing Honors: Manufactured items are part of everyday life, yet most students have not been introduced to the high-tech, innovative nature of modern manufacturing. This course illuminates the opportunities related to understanding manufacturing while teaching students about manufacturing processes, product design, robotics, and automation. Students can earn a virtual manufacturing badge recognized by the National Manufacturing Badge system.

PLTW Digital Electronics Honors: From smart phones to appliances, digital circuits are all around us. This course provides a foundation for students who are interested in electrical engineering, electronics, or circuit design. Students study topics such as combinational and sequential logic and are exposed to circuit design tools used in industry including logic gates, integrated circuits, and programmable logic devices.

PLTW Environmental Sustainability Honors: PLTW-Environmental Sustainability provides opportunities for students to investigate and design solutions in response to real-world challenges related to clean and abundant drinking water, food supply, and renewable energy. Applying their knowledge through hands-on activities and simulations, students research and design potential solutions to these true-to-life challenges.

PLTW Principles of Engineer Honors: Students explore a broad range of engineering topics including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. This course may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS.

Health Science

Health Science 1: Health Science 1, Foundations of Healthcare Professions, provides students with and overview of the career clusters in the fields of health care. Upon completion of this course proficient students will be able to identify careers in these fields, compare and contrast the features of healthcare systems and begin to provide foundational health care skills. Become a Certified Nursing Assistant after HS 2 and HS Clinical Study and passing the C.N.A. exam!

Health Science 2: Health Science 2, Advanced Healthcare Applications, provides the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will employ hands-on experiences for continued knowledge and skill development. Upon completion of this course proficient students will be able to build on foundational standards from Health Science 1 and incorporate patient care skills learned within a classroom setting. Students will also become CPR certified and are required to job shadow in a health-related field experience that will connect to real-world experience in the healthcare industry. Become a Certified Nursing Assistant after HS Clinical Study and passing the C.N.A. exam!

Medical Terminology: Medical terminology develops a working knowledge of the language of health professions. Utilizing a body systems approach, students will define, interpret, and pronounce medical terms relating to structure and function, pathology, diagnosis, clinical procedures, and pharmacology. Students will use problem-solving techniques to assist in developing an understanding of course concepts. This CTE elective course is ideal for Health Science, PLTW Biomedical, Sports Medicine, and Veterinary Science students. This course may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS.

Horticulture

Introduction to Horticulture: Introduction to Horticulture introduces students to the Horticulture pathway. It is recommended as a prerequisite for all other horticulture courses. This course includes organized subject matter and practical experiences related to the culture of plants used principally for ornamental or aesthetic purposes. Instruction emphasizes knowledge and understanding of the importance of establishing, maintaining, and managing ornamental horticulture enterprises.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Equipment Operation and Maintenance teaches students how to operate and maintain equipment commonly used in the agricultural industry. It includes equipment used in four of the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources pathways: Horticulture, Plant and Animal Systems, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, and Agricultural Mechanics and Technology. Typical instructional activities include hands-on experiences with agricultural power units; participating in personal and community leadership development activities; and planning and implementing a relevant work-based learning transition experience.

Landscape Technology: Landscape Technology qualifies the student completing the course for job entry into landscaping fields or to continue advanced training in post high school education. A combination of subject matter and activities is designed to teach technical knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in selling, selecting, and servicing.

Nursery, Green House and Garden Center Technology: Nurs, GH and GCT includes organized subject matter and practical experiences related to the operation and management of nursery, greenhouse or a garden center. Instruction emphasizes knowledge and understanding of the importance of establishing, maintaining, and managing industry enterprises.

Turf and Lawn Mgt: Turf and Lawn Management teaches technical knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in the turfgrass industry. The principles and practices involved in establishing, managing, and maintaining grassed areas for ornamental and/or recreational purposes are studied.

Marketing

Marketing: This course introduces marketing concepts and examines the economic, marketing, and business fundamentals, in addition to the marketing functions of selling, promotion, and distribution. The standards listed are core standards and those standards reflecting the needs of the local business community. This is the basic course in the marketing curriculum and should be taken before the specialized courses such as Digital Media Marketing and Sports Entertainment Marketing.

Digital Media Marketing: This course examines all aspects of advertising and digital media marketing. Students will creatively plan, design, and develop an advertising campaign for a product or service using real-world applications and considerations. Students will integrate technology commonly used in the advertising industry. Complete the Marketing Communications major by taking Sports Entertainment Marketing next!

Sport Entertainment Marketing: The Sports and Entertainment Marketing course is for students who are interested in marketing careers in the various areas found in the sports and entertainment industry. Marketing theory and practice are emphasized and incorporated into present-day scenarios. Major topics include the use of technology, promotion, customer relations, selling, and marketing plans. Complete the Marketing Communications major by taking Digital Media Marketing next!

Media Technology

Media Technology 1 and 2: Media Technology students will explore the general field of communications focused primarily on media production industries. Students will get hands-on experience in basic production techniques for audio, video, and film. They will work collaboratively while writing, producing, directing, and editing projects of increasing complexity, using industry-standard software and equipment. Media Tech 1 may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS.

Photography

Photography 1 and 2: The Photography courses are designed for the highly motivated student who is interested in the study of photography as an art form. The proper use of manual 35mm cameras as well as digital SLR cameras is addressed. Topics also include a survey of photographic history, composition and technical skills, traditional darkroom and computer lab production, cultural literacy, presentation of artwork, proper critique methods, and career opportunities. Photography 1 may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS.

Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine 1: Sports Medicine 1 emphasizes sports medicine career exploration and the prevention of athletic injuries, including the components of exercise science, kinesiology, anatomy, principles of safety, first aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) use. Students interested in healthcare careers in athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, exercise physiology, nursing, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology, and radiology will benefit from this course. This course may be offered at both Beckham HS and the CAS.

Sports Medicine 2: Sports Medicine 2 emphasizes the recognition and care of common injuries and illnesses sustained by a physically active population. Subject matter will include discussion of specific conditions and injuries that may be experienced by individuals participating in athletic activities. In addition, the concepts of therapeutic modalities and exercise in the care of injuries will be examined. A focus on deeper understanding of body systems and common pathologies will be included. Concepts related to the administrative aspects of the sports medicine program will also be covered. Students will apply legal and ethical principles through real-world scenarios in various sports medicine settings. Other career roles in sports medicine will be discussed as the Athletic Trainer takes the injured athlete through the pathway of recovery.

Additional Courses

AP Biology Prep Lab (Fall) and AP Biology (Spring): These courses explore key science practices used to develop explanations and predictions of natural phenomena, which will be tested and refined through laboratory investigations. AP Biology develops advanced reasoning and inquiry skills as students design experiments, collect and analyze data using mathematics and other methods, and interpret that data to draw conclusions.

AP Statistics: The course introduces major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes in the course: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. Technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing build conceptual understanding. The use of real-world data collection and technology to analyze data are used throughout the course.
