Coupa: What was your procurement solution prior Coupa?

Chris: Prior to looking at a procurement solution we had a customized homegrown application, very unsophisticated in the approval process. Essentially what it did was just route a request from one person to the other and track the approval but it wasn’t smart enough to tell you who it should go to next.

Coupa: How did you handle purchase requisitions?

Chris: We used to print out reqs and the approved req would get printed out and put in a file cabinet just to be stored as sort of a safety blanket. With Coupa that data is available, and the search is robust. There are a number of self-service tools and views and reporting that we can leverage. The system is quick and performs well. It’s efficient. They have the views they need and they are also able to do self-service reporting and extracting of data and management of data through the system and that helps them do their job faster.

Coupa: How else has Coupa changed your processes?

Chris: Coupa is a solution that I personally find cool. It seems current and very fresh as opposed to some of the old applications that we still have and some of the applications quite frankly that are new today.

Coupa has a very easy to use experience. It feels like an Amazon.com. You go there and you can get what you need, get it very quickly and as we move toward doing more online it becomes even easier to point and click and submit that req for approval.

At the same time the approval process is dynamic and I think we have something like 192 approval chains in the system and Coupa manages that for us seamlessly.

Coupa: Talk to us about how having a cloud-based solution has helped Enterasys.

Chris: One of the values with using a Cloud solution, a true Cloud solution like Coupa is that the timetable limitation is greatly accelerated than if you were to implement something on premise or do a custom solution. We are better by working in an ecosystem of other folks than we would be if we were on our own. So having that cloud model of sharing and benefitting from others using the tool has been a tremendous benefit to us.
